[PATCH]: Drop Cygwin workaround
Hi,
the Cygwin specific workaround to sleep a second in daemon() isn't
needed anymore. We can eliminate it from the OpenSSH sources.

IRIX compilation and openbsd-compat/basename.h
I was trying to compile openssh-3.6.1p1 on IRIX and ran across this
error while compiling progressmeter.c:
"/usr/include/libgen.h", line 35: error(1143): declaration is incompatible
with "char *basename(const char *)" (declared at line 9 of
"openbsd-compat/basename.h")

progressmeter.c fails to build on Cygwin
Hi,
I didn't had the time to build portable OpenSSH from CVS for some weeks
now. I was very surprised to see that it fails to build on Cygwin.
It only fails in the new progressmeter.c file which has two flaws:
First of all, libgen.h and basename() don't exist on Cygwin (and probably
on other systems). I already implemented this function in the
bsd-cygwin_util.c file but I'd think

[PATCH]: Allow SSHD to install as service under WIndows 9x/Me
Hi,
the following patch is a (hopefully least intrusive) extension
when sshd is started so that it daemonizes itself. In that case
Windows 9x/Me has a slight problem with sshd as soon as the current
user logs off. The sshd daemon will be killed as well. Since
installing services is very different between NT and 9x, the way
used for NT boxes isn't working well for 9x. For that reason

Makefile.in: progressmeter.o has moved to libssh
Since progressmeter.o has moved to libssh, we don't need to explicitly
link it into scp and sftp any longer.

Patch for progressmeter.c
This is a small patch to progressmeter.c that provides peak throughput
information. It adds a new field on the progress bar line that displays
the 1sec throughput for the connection. At the end of the transfer it
spits out the peak throughput seen.
I found it useful in some testing situations and maybe someone else
might find it handy.

[PATCH]: Fix potential security hole in Cygwin version
Hi,
the following patch fixes a potential security hole in the Cygwin
version of sshd.
If you're logging in to a Cygwin sshd with version 2 protocol using an
arbitrary user name which is not in /etc/passwd, the forked sshd which
is handling this connection crashes with a segmentation violation. The
client side encounters an immediate disconnect ("Connection reset by
peer").

alternate output for progressmeter
Hi,
I used scp in some background process for transferring large files
which took some hours.
For this I needed a less fancy output, preferable parseble by a script,
so I could regularly see how far the transfer was
The adaptions I made to progressmeter.c and .h are underneath my mail as a patch
Some sample output how it looks now:

[PATCH]: auth-passwd.c: Eliminate a Cygwin special case
Hi,
as it turned out on the Cygwin mailing list, the special handling
of empty password in auth-passwd.c when running under Windows NT
results in problems.
Cause: The authentication methode "none" calls auth_password()
with an empty password. A piece of HAVE_CYGWIN code allows empty
passwords even if PermitEmptyPasswords is set to "no". This in
turn results in calling

Hi,
just a short addition to the Cygwin README. It would be nice to
include that into the repository.

[PATCH] permanently_set_uid fails on Cygwin :-(
Hi,
I'm terribly sorry that I missed this before 3.7p1 was out. The
permanently_set_uid() function fails on Cygwin since the test to
revert to the saved uid unfortunately works on Cygwin though it
shouldn't. The reason is that a Windows NT process always can
revert to its previous privileges. There's no such concept of
giving up rights in a process permanently. This is only

[PATCH]: Cygwin: Allow sshd to switch user context without password
Hi,
the following patch checks if OpenSSH is running under a Cygwin
version >= 1.3.2 which allows switching user context without password.
Otherwise sshd allows changing the user context only if password
authentication is used as it was before.
