samba3 and kerberos authentication of users
Hi all, this is probably VFAQ, but I never found a working solution. I have a standalone samba server running samba ver. 3. In the network, we have heimdal kerberos used to authenticate users for pop3,imap,web-based applications etc. Now I would like to make the samba communicating with kerberos kdc so there will no longer be users in smbpasswd with separate passwords outside of kerberos. I

privsep versus compression
Hi, I'm unable to get Kerberos4 authentication working with openssh-3.4p1. I'm getting a message that privsep is not available on my platform (Irix 6.5.15) and another message stating that compression and privsep are mutually exclusive. But, ssh decided to turn off compression, I think because of servconf.c. I think it would be more usefull to have compression enabled and disable privsep

Web forum - should I make one?
Hello, this might be little off-topic, but still... I have not found any official web forum for R users. Did I look good? If not, I'm sorry and shame on me! :-) Such forums are very probably the most common way to share information about all sorts of problems, to ask and get answer. See http://forums.opensuse.org/ as an example. Admins, developers, users, do You think to have such forum

Listing Domain controllers, Local and Master Browsers running in your network
Hi, when trying to configure my samba server, I was curious if there's any Domain controller running on our subnet. I could only find notes in documentation of samba, that there has to be only one Domain Controller running, otherwise weird things would happen ... Btw what are those weird things? I couldn't find an option in smbclient or nmblookup to list for example Domain

[PATCH] Password expiry with Privsep and PAM
Hi All. Attached is a patch that implements password expiry with PAM and privsep. It works by passing a descriptor to the tty to the monitor, which sets up a child with that tty as stdin/stdout/stderr, then runs chauthtok(). No setuid helpers. I used some parts of Michael Steffens' patch (bugid #423) to make it work on HP-UX. It's still rough but it works. Tested on Solaris 8 and

Samba performance issues
Hi all We are implementing samba-ldap to act as an nt pdc and are seeing performance problems. We have a 1ghz, 3gb Ram, 36gb box that is running samba-2.2.5 and openldap-2.0.23 under redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3. Clients are all Win2k SP3. All the ldap requests are to the localhost interface. The box is acting as the PDC for the domain, and also sharing diskspace and printers. When we get

ssh-3.5p1 core dumps on Solaris 2.6
Hi, I've reported this problem a month ago on this list, and probably no-one is interested? Binaries were configured with krb4 and afs enabled. However, only the second crash seems to be related to krb4. Any thoughts? I had to add one line to includes.h: #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/socket.h> #include <sys/ioctl.h> +#include <sys/ioccom.h> #include

support for caron (hacek) symbol
I am creating a Slovak translation of an interactive website ( http://mazamascience.com/OilExport/index_sk.html ) and am running into problems with R's lack of support for the caron found in the following letters: Č/č, Š/š and Ž/ž. I am using R 2.6.1 running on a recent version of CentOS. Any information about whether these characters are supported or any possible workarounds would be

ADDENDUM: Portable OpenSSH and GSSAPI
Dear developers, to my previous post I have some additional info. I just erased all the krb5 data and set it up from scratch. Now the message in sshd debug changed to: debug1: Miscellaneous failure (see text) Decrypt integrity check failed debug1: Got no client credentials Failed gssapi-with-mic for komanek .... So it seems the problem is somewhere in the kerberos, not in openssh. Is here

quantile regression problem
Dear List members, I would like to ask for advise on quantile regression in R. I am trying to perform an analysis of a relationship between species abundance and its habitat requirements - the habitat requirements are, however, codes - 0,1,2,3... where 0<1<2<3 and the scale is linear - so I would be happy to treat them as continuos The analysis of the data somehow does not work, I am

The future of R - Ross Ihaka stirs discussions around the web
Hello all, There is currently a (very !) lively discussions happening around the web, surrounding the following topics: 1) Is R efficient? (scripting wise, and performance wise) 2) Should R be written from scratch? 3) What should be the license of R (if it was made a new)? Very serious people have taken part in the debates so far. I hope to let you know of the places I came by, so you might be
