[Bug 369] Inconsistant exiit status from scp
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369
------- Additional Comments From devel at pitux.com 2002-09-10 19:19 -------
I confirm that this bug does exist. It's especially annoying since we use here
a lot of scripts which check for the return values of scp to indicate success
or failure.
In fact it does the good thing on nonexistent files/dirs/etc, but fails in case
of auth

Test snapshot
I have just tarred up a snapshot and uploaded it to:
http://www.mindrot.org/misc/openssh/openssh-SNAP-20000823.tar.gz
The snapshot incorporates the last month's fixes and enhancements from
the openssh-unix-dev mailing list and from the OpenBSD developers.
In particular:
- ssh-agent and ssh-add now handle DSA keys. NB. this does not interop
with ssh.com's ssh-agent. (Markus Friedl)

ANNOUNCE: openssh-1.2.1pre18
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have just uploaded 1.2.1pre18.
This is mainly merges from the OpenBSD tree, bugfixes for Solaris
and libc5 Linux systems. It should fix all reported bugs except the
snprintf problems on some older Solaris versions.
Please test thoroughly, my hope is to have a stable version
released before Jan 1. At this point the main holdup is Solaris.

scp: Problem when source and destination are identical
If the source and destination file are identical, the receiving scp
truncates the file. On the sending end, read() returns 0, and garbage
is sent instead of actual data, and the receiving end puts it into the
file, which at least confuses the users.

should sh and scp be subsystems also?
I've run into several instances where I want to give users access only to scp or sftp. Now I know that there are custom shells out there with this ability. However, wouldn't it further simplify the core sshd code if sh and scp were implemented as subsystems, thereby lowering the chance of flaws in the core code?
I wouldn't mind putting some work into doing this patch myself if it is
