MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a
cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

Centos 5 install failed compounded - no CD?
First off, there is no access into the bios on this unit It will boot
from the hard drive or a USB CD.
I have a USB DVD/CDRW. The system will boot from it.
But if I just press enter to install off the CD, I end up at the
askmethod menu.
I press the local CD option and am told, no CD.
Help?

Install Successes!
The CentOS drive for the HP NC4010 is built. I just needed to use
external instead of USB power for my USB CDrom. Go figure...
I did this in my hotel room, where they only have wireless. I went
down to the 'business center' and used an ethernet drop, but I don't
think the registration worked. I didn't know that even for the
ehternet drops you have to do that portal thing

ISO burning challenge -- pilgrims progress
First the Storix drive works just fine under DSL 4.2.1 on my Libretto.
So the drive is fine, the media is fine. And cdrecord on DSL reports

DVD install via NFS asks for CD #1 ISO
Hi all,
I'm installing Centos 5.0 (fresh install) x86_64 via NFS. I've
downloaded just the DVD iso via bittorrent, but when it starts the
graphical installation phase an error message appears telling me that
anaconda can't find the CD iso in the remote server.
Seems that's looking for Centos-5.0-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso, I'm downloading
it right now to go ahead but... I think

Live CD Planning systems
My company supplies me with a very nice HP nc2400. Much faster, more
memory, etc than my old HP nc4010.
Problem is the drive is not swappable, and they encrypt the drive (the
OS is XP).
The nc2400 has a DVD/CDRW and 2 USB 2.0 ports so I was thinking.....
Make a Live DVD with everything I need but map
/etc /root /home and /var/log (and what else?) to a USB flash drive

Can CentOS 4 be installed from CD1 only?
Hi. I'm installing CentOS far from home and forgot the CDs... I don't
have time to download all 4, what are my best options? I can download CD
1 and perhaps 2 - is that enough? Is there a way to install directly
over the internet from one of the mirrors?
Thanks.

non-graphics install or fix xorg.conf?
Trying the to install on the OQO, and hitting up against one problem I
see a lot in the comments about installing various distros on it. That
is its screen size.
So I could install using the text installation except...
What is the command line for text install and askmethod so I can use
HTTP to access my local repo? What do I add to 'linux askmethod'? And
if I go the text install

Installing CentOS over LAN
I want to set up a server that will do network installs of CentOS,
perhaps through NFS.
Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot
it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and
with the server.
Has anyone done that and published it? Where can I find docs?

MD5Sum for CentOS-3.1 DVD iso?
Hello everyone. Thanks to everyone who made this project possible. This
is my first post, although I have looked at the archives. I haven't found
an answer to this in the archives, so I thought I would post it here.
I've downloaded the DVD iso for CentOS-3.1 from BitTorrent, and I'm
leaving my torrent open for another day or so to help out. I see there is
an MD5Sum file for the

source for additional appliction installs later. Now it asks me for

Is there any way to query the size of an existing journal? I have heard
a number of sizes thrown around as defaults, but I need to be able to
reliably get the exact journal size.

CD burning issues & questions
I have been having some strange results trying to burn CDs under
CentOS. I don't think they are hardware related because I have had
some success, in fact most of this usually works.
I use k3b for most of my CD and DVD writing - it seems to work fairly
well (well, except for wrecking my installation a few weeks ago when
it crashed my installation and I had to reinstall to get it back, but

5.2 x86_64 DVD
I've pulled this down with Firefox, wget, a bittorrent client and an ftp
client using Windows as well as Linux hosts. Is something wrong with the
distributed DVD image? It has failed an MD5 check every time I've pulled
it down.

Getting JPilot working
I am trying to get JPilot working.
I have configed gnome-pilot-applet, but it is not talking to the USB
connected Treo650.
My Treo has my name as the user, so from the applet, I see also a userid
(my UID on this system it seems). I try to put that on the Treo and
nothing happens. I have enabled the Backup Conduit.
I am using /dev/pilot, which shows up when my Treo is connected via its

Linux Live CDs with Xen Support
Hi,
does anybody have a list of working Linux Live CDs with Xen Support which I can use in a Xen Domain?
What I''m looking for is more or less something like Knoppix with Xen Support so that I can use the yet-not-supported hardware of my Ferrari 4005 in the Linux Domain
regards
Bernd

viewing digital stories with references to time and place. Take a look
