compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi, I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf "acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic" the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic! So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop. they had no effect.... This AMD turion 64 4000+ rating laptop is still running SLOWWW...

compaq r4000 /proc/cpuinfo reports 997 and should be 2400
Hi I have a compaq R4000 with the 2.4GIG AMD 64 bit. 4000+ rated. proc cpuinfo reports cpu Mhz as 997.481 Do I have to run the 64 bit version to have things run correctly? I just have the normal 4.2 loaded at this time. The laptop seems slow for 4000+ as reflected by the cpu Mhz also. Any thoughts on running the 32 bit version of 4.2 vs the 64 bit version of 4.2? Jerry

compaq R4000 update (hogging interrupts)
After a couple hours last night.... doing a "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" bumps up the /proc/cpuinfo information for cpu mhz to 2393 Mhz. I did notice a little increase after that. However, the machine is still sluggish. I did a "hdparm -c 1 /dev/hda" but really did not notice any difference. I tried to download fglrx64_6_8_0_8.16.20-1.x86_64.rpm from ati (also 8.20.8) and get

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents, I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2, after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same. going VERY slow... The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time (3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG). While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and could not keep up. Anyway just reporting that so far

Anyone tried installing centos 4.2 on an compaq R4000? The CD boots, I hit enter, starts uncompressing the kernel detects my disks (last thing I see) then the screen is BLANK. I tried "linux text" also and exact same thing happens. THanks, Jerry

Is there a location for centos 4.2 that has a current kernel compiled and ready to just install for the 2.6.14.X kernel? I am wondering if a current kernel helps with my slowww compaq r4000 amd64 machine. Thanks, Jerry -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

compaq v2000 laptop
Hi, I have a compaq V2000 laptop. Specs for network say its a realtek 8139/8139C+ NIC. Other distros (namely suse) said there was no problem with this was detected and worked. Mine does not work on either of the 2 V2000 laptops I have. I tried manually loading the 8139cp module then restarting the network and that did not do it. Any ideas? Jerry

The reason I ask is because while the RTL8100 is supposed to be MAC compatible with the RTL8139, I'm finding

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000 laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized. I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either... I thought USB was well established.... I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support might get my networking going... I am stuck??? Jerry -------------- next part

Slowww access from Win9x to Samba Shares
Slow connections login isnt too bad ... 4 sec. tops but its at least 10 seconds or more to access Samba shared Printers or Directories. this is a 10/100 network using Redhat 6.0 with Samba 2.0.5a ... everything works great Except for access times. for example Win9x --> NT its relatively Quick. Is this an Authorization Default that checks every access to Shared objects ? security is all

Powernow Failure with Xen Kernel
Sorry to have so many questions but I seem to have quite a few mini problems with my first Xen setup. My xen server works fine with Powernow on the standard Kernel but with the Xen kernel it fails. Does anyone know why? Details below. With Standard Kernel powernow-k8: Found 2 Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8350 processors (8 cpu cores) (version 2.20.00) powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0x0

Chris, I have a compaq AMD r4000 x86_64. grabbing the latest kernel and compiling it fixed my clock skew. I have not had any slow disk issues. again the kernel may help doing the command: killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed makes the CPU run faster. Hope that helps.
