Something Wrong? Or Is Samba Meant To Delete My Passwords?
Hi,
I'm using samba-2.2.7 and i've noticed that everytime
my box is restarted/has the power cut off, none of the
machine accounts or encryped passwords in smbpasswd
(i'm using an ntdom btw) work properly. Is this a
security feature or something or is there some way i
can avoid this happening in the future.
Thank's

compiling R from source for windows
I have been using R for some time now and decided to have a go a compiling R
from source.
I have carefully followed the guidelines set out by Prof Ripley and others,
but I get the following message when I try to make:
MkRules:92: *** missing separator. Stop.
If I comment the line out, I get the same message for the next line.
I have searched on Google and many people have mentioned an issue

error in "encoder_example.c"
Hi,
Why do I get an error message when i'm running the
"encoder_example.c" which is included in the SDK?
The error occurs then the 44 bits are read and the
vorbis_info struct is initiated (i.e. when the
vorbis_encode_init(&vi,2,44100, -1, 128000, -1) -
funcion is called. I also tried to read the data from
a 16 bits 44,1 KHz stereo PCM - wave file but recived
the same error.

interpretation of lm
Dear statistitians / R users,
I was told to analyse the effects of the four factors
using lm or update for aov. The following is the
result from lm. As you can see that in the last few
lines enclosed coefficients.
1)Does this mean I can write a formula, like
yield =0.26 + 0.03*H + 1.48*T + 0.04*L + 0.004*C
2) in the two levels design, is there any difference
between I use (-1, 1) to

Norfc1918 Blocks all (even with additional rule)
Hi
I had this problem that shorewall blocks all traffic
from net when norfc1918 rule is given to my eth0 (net
ethernet card).
I''ve added: run_iptables -I rfc1918 -s 192.168.7.10 -j
ACCEPT
To start file but that didn''t help.
My configuration: ADSL modem has static 10.***.***.***

SuSE 7.2 & Outlook
Hi,
Our corporate policy kinda forces us to use MS
Exchange and Outlook 98. Wheras we develope embedded
products using Linux and our development team use SuSE
7.2. It seemed the best way around this conundrum was
wine and Outlook (for which we have many licences).
However on installing wine on a dual boot SuSE 7.2 /
WinNT workstation although i can get notebook running
well Outlook complains

can wine be run as daemon
I noticed that when i launched WINWORD.EXE the first
time it took about 20 seconds to load, but when i ran
it on the 2nd time it took about 10 seconds only!, it
seems that it is now cached in the memory...I was
wodering if it is possibe to load wine as a daemon so
that it will
be faster to load? sort of like a daemon? does my
analogy here make sense?
I would appreciate any help, comments,

As I understood from Samba documentation winbind can run without PAM
installed; PAM is needed only if I need interactive login in the Unix
box of NT domain users. Am I correct?

servers they are not getting internet access. They manage to ping the nic on
the server but nothing on the backbone and obviously nothing on the net.
The servers are abviously not routing the packets. Can this be simply solved
by fixing the route.conf or do i need to set up masquerading on all the
servers? Should I

That was the solution.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning in the INSTALL file.

Mounting smbfs as guest at boot time
I have searched for a solution to my problem, and have
only found one short discussion which mentioned it
(http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Aug2001/msg00364.html),
and I didn't feel it contained a resolution I could
use. In a nutshell, I want to mount an win2k share as
'guest' at boot time on a linux web server.[1] It
just won't work any way that I've tried it.

[SLE] Routing question!!
Hi,
Can't really make sense of your diagram. How many clients have you got and
what are trying to achieve? Also, what type of firewall are you trying to
achieve, a masquerading/NAT one, (in which case you need routing turned on),
or a application level one, (in which case you need it turned off).
If you've got this many servers I would suggest you install masquerading/NAT
firewall with

RE: Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewalldoesn''t work
Thanks for such a quick reply Tom!
Any suggestions then as to what I might do other than putting a second
nic in the SBS and opening it up for web access? I don''t like the idea,
but since MS SBS includes fireall that is actually what MS suggests.

Anyone here user lightwave/screamernet
Hi there guys
this is my first post here, I thought I would inform everyone that I am
currently building a screamernet controller in gtk+
I first got the idea after being interested in lightnet on win32, but
since it was written in delphi, a language I care little about I went
ahead with writing my own controller. Soon after win2k would crash
almost every hour and unknown to me, breaking my

Problem with samba broadcast
Hi all,
I''m new to shorewall and have been struggling with several problems for
several days now. Most of them are solved, but one still persists.
The firewall is running on my server under Debian Sarge (Kernel 2.6)
I''ve got three network interfaces:
ppp0 (DSL Internet)
eth1 (lan)
ath0 (wlan)
eth1 and ath0 are bridged together to br0.
The problem is, that Samba (also running
