reinstall packages
I have some rpm packages that I built locally. After installing and configuring them, I found a problem that required a source patch. I have rebuilt the rpms, but since they have the same version number as the original, I can't use "yum localupdate" to install them. Is there a clean way to do this with yum, or do I just need to remove the old packages and then install the new

CentOS 5.3: duplicate glib2-2.12.3-2.fc6 packages
Hi All, I have a freshly installed CentOS 5.3, x86_64 system -- just the Base package selection (via custom packages selection), and nothing else. Immediately after install (no updates), here's what's in the RPM db: [root at dev ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i glib2 glib2-2.12.3-2.fc6 glib2-2.12.3-2.fc6 [root at dev ~]# I have two questions about this: (1) Should this package be

lightdm dependency
On a CentOS 7 system I'm trying to install lightdm. Yum says it requires "glib2(x86-64) >= 2.50.3". glib2 2.46 is installed but I have not found a 2.50 version. Have I overlooked it in some repo? -- Jon H. LaBadie jcu at labadie.us 11226 South Shore Rd. (703) 787-0688 (H) Reston, VA 20190 (703) 935-6720 (C)

NT - Not allowed from this workstation
I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the 3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1). When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I will recevie an error message saying that:

firefox 18
Has anyone managed to get FF 18.0 to work on Centos 5.8? I've been hacking at it, placing a stack of .so files (from Centos 6) into a private directory, then using LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point the system to (in a shellscript that subsequently invokes ff 18) but so far I've not managed to find the right combination. I've moved over libstdc++, all or nearly all the .so files from glib2 and

"old" rpm version package handling broken!? (SuSE8)
Hi! Using (among others) the pretty old SuSE8.1, I cant get puppet to install packages. The rpm programms bahaviour was changed somewhen between versions 3 and 4 (sry, donĀ“t know exactly when) and the old version does not support the "--nosignature" and "--nodigest" params and "--oldpackage" is purely an update parameter so when trying to install a package I

ATRpms repo question...
Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that matter!) My question applies to the

where is glib-devl x86-64?
I dunno. I guess it could be. Went to the Gimp site and saw that glib-devel was mentioned there. My tired old brain is a bit confused by this, since most other -devel packages put -devel following the program/package name, and gimp doesn't. I'll give that a try, though, to see if it takes care of my issue. Thanks! On Tue, Mar 21, 2023 at 2:32?AM Simon Matter <simon.matter at

Hughesjr recommended me to post here, so let?s see, I have my faith on you I have a dedicated server with RH9 that I upgraded to CentOS 3.4 . Everything ok, but after the first yum upgrade and reboot I get this when I try to do a yum update:
