Anybody using NetCell raid controller on CentOS 4?
Is anybody using NetCell raid controllers on CentOS 4?
The pricing is pretty nice on these, I know they support only raid-3,
but for a home mythtv box they would seem to be good.

RAID 5 vs. RAID 10
Hi,
I am looking into purchasing a new server. This server will be
mission-critical.
I have read and somewhat understood the theories behind RAIDs 0, 1, 5, 10 &
JBOD. However, I would like to get some feedback from those who have
experience in implementing and recovering from a HDD failure using RAID.
Hardware specs include:-
Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz
2 GB RAM

SiL311x SataRaid (sata_sil)
Hi,
On my x86_64 system I have a SiL311x controller that can do RAID. If I
configure my 2 identical disks in a RAID1 setup, I would expect to see
only 1 block device on Linux. Still I see 2 block devices.
Is this intentional, and if so, isn't that dangerous ? (i.e. writing to
both disks at the same time)
Anyone with an insight, please explain :)

Slightly OT: FakeRaid or Software Raid
I have had great luck with nvidia fakeraid on RAID1, but I see there are
preferences for software raid. I have very little hands on with full
Linux software RAID and that was about 14 years ago.
I am trying to determine which to use on a rebuild in a "standard"
CentOS/Xen enviroment.
It seems to me that while FakeRaid is/can be completely taken care of in
dom0 dmraid whereas with

xen 3.0 on UP amd64 - rootfs mounting problem in xenU
Hi,
I''m trying to run Xen 3.0 on my amd64 UP machine. So far xen0 is working fine
but there is a problem with mounting rootfs on xenU kernel.
Is there something else that needs to be compiled into xenU 3.0 kernel?

iRiver iGP-100 Review on Tomshardware.com
http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer/20040428/index.html
The iRiver iGP-100 was just reviewed at Toms Hardware. They
specifically mention that it supports Vorbis. Just thought I'd pass
this along.

Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or
SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm
using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working
but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy.
I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found

[Bridge] unregister_netdevice: waiting for br0 to become free. Usage count = 1 (2.6.12.3)
Hi Robert,
2. Any ideas of something to try in order to make this repeatable?
> =
What i would do to reproduce it, is make a script establishing the bridge, =
then flooding the bridge with some external ping -f, then shuting down the =
bridge. If there is a refcount release problem, it should appear on eavy =
load (some buffer overflow, or something like that).
Also, are you playing with

Rendering farm?
I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering
farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit
Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent
insight. What can list participants offer on this concept?
I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine,
cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money,

It certainly is. And, I suppose, this will work, for a while, as long as:

Memory Problems
Hello,
This is not a question directly related to asterisk.
I am currently rinning ansterisk on a Debian server and i just upgraded my
memory from 1GB to 2GB. However, my linux OS does not recognise the memory
upgrade. The BIOS does, but the Debian Linux refuses to use the entier
memory, currently, it registered only 900MB.
Can anyone tell me why thi is and a solution to this??

Apply or Tapply to Build Set of Tables
Dear R Helpers,
First, I apologize for asking for help on the first of my topics. I have
been looking at the posts and pages for apply, tapply etc, and I know that
the solution to this must be ridiculously easy, but I just can't seem to
get my brain around it. If I want to produce a set of tables for all the
variables in my data, how can I do that without having to type them into
the table

Stand alone media player supporting Ogg ?
1. Anyone know of an Ogg playing media player, similar to the Netgear MP101
or the Voyetra AudioTron-100 (neither of which play ogg) ?
I need something that will display and play/stream ogg audio files stored on
the PC, without having to use a tv as the viewer. I looked on the wiki but
didn't find anything. If they don't use a tv they don't play ogg, so far
anyway.

I'm not sure if Wine is converting correctly ttyR0 to COM1 and so forth.

btrfs wishlist
Hi all
Having managed ZFS for about two years, I want to post a wishlist.
INCLUDED IN ZFS
- Mirror existing single-drive filesystem, as in ''zfs attach''
- RAIDz-stuff - single and hopefully multiple-parity RAID configuration with block-level checksumming
- Background scrub/fsck
- Pool-like management with multiple RAIDs/mirrors (VDEVs)
- Autogrow as in ZFS autoexpand
