forwarding features
While messing with various tunnels it occured to me that there may be cases where some extra tunneling functionality would come in handy. I thought I better run it past the list before trying to implement a patch since the last 2 times I did this there was another way to get the effect I wanted with no code changes... Forwarding should not just be of AF_INET but (where available) AF_UNIX (ie

prng_cmds/init_rng() question/patch
I have a need to provide ssh client binaries for use elsewhere on several platforms, some without /dev/random support. I can't assume that users will know how to install/run prngd or egd, so I was planning to rely on the builtin prng code. However this require the ssh_prng_cmds file to exist in a fixed location -- which would mean making binaries which either look for it in . or other

path to find ssh-rand-helper
Before I actually implement the small changes needed to allow the location of ssh-rand-helper to be specified in the config file, I'd like to check that in doing so I won't be opening up a huge security hole. My brief reading of the code suggests that in entropy.c:seed_rng() the ssh-rand-helper is run as the original uid (for binaries which were setuid in the first place of course), so I

SIA support patches for Tru64 UNIX
I think I'm ready with the SIA (Security Integration Architecture) patches for Tru64 UNIX. All of the code was written by Tom Woodburn, an engineer at Compaq. I've only performed integration and testing of the patches with more help from Tom. Tom's original patches were included in the "other" ssh. We'd both like to see SIA support get into OpenSSH. SIA provides PAM-like

Building 3.0p1 on HPUX 10.2, gcc, zlib 1.1.4
Hi everybody, I've never posted here before but I seem to be having a similar problem to what Tim Rice had in July, namely when running the configure script I get the following: configure: error: *** zlib missing - please install first or check config.log *** However, I have definitely installed zlib (see below): dngwks1:/tmp/openssh-3.0p1 # swlist # Initializing... # Contacting target

HostbasedAuthentication, and my sillyness
Maybe I just can't read properly, but I just spent the best part of a day trying to work out why HostbasedAuthentication wouldn't work for me (with protocol 2 in openssh-2.9p1). It seems (though maybe there is something wrong with my install), that after enabling it in the sshd_config it doesn't work, since the client will not in fact request it (by default). I was fooled by the

OpenSSL PRNG
Just for peace of mind, can someone who knows the openssh code better than I do, confirm that openssh doesn't use (in any circumstances) the openssl prng (since the code in versions prior to 0.9.6b is rather weak). My understanding is that it doesn't (using either /dev/random, egd, prngd or the builtin code), but I may have missed some other use of the openssl prng elsewhere... -- Jon

OSF/1 or Tru64 patch for Privsep
Either this never made it to the list or no one cares about Tru64. This is the last time I'll send this patch to the list. If no one steps up and finishes it or provides me with enough information to fix any remaining bugs (one being complaint that 'ssh site cmd' does not work right). If there is no activity on this for a week. I'll post it to bugzilla and will ignore any

Patches for compatibility with Heimdal's libsia_krb5 SIA module
I have found the following patches to be desirable for using sshd on a Tru64 UNIX system with the Kerberos 5 SIA module (libsia_krb5.so) from Heimdal. These patches do the following: 1) preserve context between the password authentication and the session setup phases. This is necessary because the Heimdal SIA module stores Kerberos context information as mechanism-specific data in

?: 'rsync' hang with 'sshd2' (F-Secure), Digital Unix (OSF1) and HP/UX 11
Hi, I have managed to test this same transfer reliably with the Linux boxes and open-ssh, but I am in trouble with the OSF1 4.0 (Digital Unix) being the server sending files from a single directory to the HP/UX 11 - being the client The 'sshd2' (and ssh2) in both ends is installed as root (and starts probably from 'rc') The 'rsync' (2.4.6) in both end is just

One strange configure option for SIA
Hi, develop members: When I installed OpenSSH after reading the document INSTALL, I found one typo in this document. The configure option for OSF1's Security Integration Architecture is -ofssia, NOT -sia. The following is the patch for fixing this typo: ---(cut here)--- --- INSTALL.orig Thu Jul 25 13:36:25 2002 +++ INSTALL Wed May 21 06:21:12 2003 @@ -125,3 +125,3 @@ ---with-sia,

openssh-2.1.1p1 on Debian slink and potato
Just today I compilied openssh-2.1.1p1 on Debian Slink and Potato both to come out with the same problem. I am compiling them with openssl-0.9.5a.. The configure line I use for openssh is below: ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh --prefix=/usr --with-ssl-dir=../openssl-0.9.5a So I compile, do a make install restart the sshd daemon and everything seems fine. Then when I do a w at the prompt

_PATH_STDPATH and @bindir@
Sorry if this is stuff that's been talked about before. If it is, just ignore me. I'm curious to know why Portable OpenSSH doesn't include @bindir@ in the _PATH_STDPATH. This would save most installers of portable OpenSSH from having to --with-default-path=$PREFIX/bin in order to ensure that scp will work properly. This would also, I imagine, save quite a lot of hassle for

Privsep for osf/1 .. still need a bit of help
This privsepifies OSF/1 SIA, but I'm still being told the same error occurs. I'm stumped. Without an OSF/1 box near me I can't do too much more help unless someone can either tell me what is wrong or show me why SIA is failing in their logs. (And tell me if it's different w/ or w/out this patch) - Ben Index: auth-sia.c
