AIX authenticate()
Hi, I just got a comment from one of my IBM support engineeres that there is a problem with auth-passwd.c only calling authenticate() once. He claims it should potentially be called several times, in case several authetication methods are defined in /etc/security/user. F.ex.: SYSTEM = "NIS and DCE" Suggested (untested) patch should look like: ----------------- cut

OpenSSH vs AIX 4.3.3 => 5.1 utmp patch
The patch below follows changes in AIX utmp handling made between AIX 4.3.3 and 5.1. With it, utmp entries are properly recorded again. The patch applies to OpenSSH 3.1p1, and seems to work fine. The co-worker who sent me the patch hasn't tested backwards compatibility on AIX 4.3.3 systems. Richard ------- *** openssh-2.9.9p2/auth-passwd.c.org Tue Jul 3 23:21:15 2001 ---

[PATCH] Replace AIX loginmsg with generic Buffer loginmsg
Hi All. I've decided to try to merge the -Portable parts of the password expiry patch (see bug #14) that do not depend on the OpenBSD change in bug #463. The attached patch is the first step in this process. It removes the AIX-specific "char *aixloginmsg" and replaces it with a platform-neutral "Buffer loginmsg". I think this is worth having in -Portable even if it

patch: disable credential forwarding after password auth.
Dear list, since the order of authentication and AFS token/KRB TGT forwarding changed (around 3.0), we have had problems with users accidentally overwriting their credentials from a "password" login with forwarded credentials. E.g. user A logs in as user B, but stays with the AFS permissions of user A. A workaround is to use "-k" on these sessions, but "it worked without

AIX lastlog change
Hi David, I'm sure loginfailed(..) should be called immediately after authenticate(..) returned an error. It is directly related to an invalid password try. (Please see my attached mail from May 2001 to the list). I'm not so sure when loginsuccess(..) should be called (setting the loginfailed counter to zero): Either 1) when somebody logs in successfully using all kinds of valid

AIX cleanups: includes and arguments
Hi All. First the questions: Is there anything objectionable in this patch? Is AUDIT_FAIL_AUTH appropriate for the "Reason" field? Now the details: attached is a patch that changes some of the #includes for AIX. It moves the AIX-specific includes to port-aix.h and adds includes that contain the prototypes for many of the authentication functions. The idea isto fix some warnings.

[PATCH #9] Password expiration via /bin/passwd.
This is an attempt to simplify the AIX expiry-via-passwd stuff and make it more generic. (There's actually a net reduction in #ifdefs). Patch against CVS: 1) configure finds passwd. 2) sshd uses passwd during session if required. 3) sshd uses passwd for PAM change if privsep disabled. 4) sshd uses Buffers for expire and post-login messages (no longer AIX specific). 5) password_change_required

AIX openssh patches
I have a few patches for AIX. The patchfile is attached below. The patch has been tested on AIX4.2 and AIX4.3. The patch is on openssh-1.2.1pre25, with openssl-0.94, using RSAref. 1) authenticate support - this function allows the system to determine authentification. Whatever the system allows for login, authenticate will too. It doesn't matter whether it is AFS, DFS, SecureID, local.

2.5.1p1/p2 PermitRootLogin broke (Solaris)
I updated my Solaris 8 machines from openssh-2.3.0p1 to 2.5.1p1 yesterday and it fixed the cron/audit issue but now root logins are no longer permitted. I updated it to 2.5.1p2 this morning and that is still the case: golfer:/[207]# ssh -v tsunami OpenSSH_2.5.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090600f debug: Reading configuration data /var/ssh/ssh_config debug: Applying options for *

[PATCH] AIX password expiration
Hi All. With one eye on the do_pam_chauthtok() stuff I've merged contributions by Pablo Sor and Mark Pitt into a patch against -current. I'm interested in testers and suggestions for improvements. The patch extends the loginrestrictions test to include expired accounts (but unlike Mark's patch, doesn't log accounts with expired passwords unless they're locked) and adds

SSH connection hangs with ipchains/RH6.2/OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 (butnot <= 2.3.0p1)
I figured this out -- looks like 2.5.1p1 is now using ports < 1024 on the client side (wasn't before?). I had a ipchains rule to allow ACK packets to 1024:65535, which was good enough for <= 2.3.0p1 : #allow only ACK tcp packed ipchains -A input -j ACCEPT -i eth0 -s any/0 --dport 1024:65535 -p tcp ! -y So I added the following : #allow return from ssh connections ipchains -A input -j

SSH connection hangs with ipchains/RH6.2/OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 (but not <= 2.3.0p1)
I just recently installed OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on a RH6.2 box (kernel 2.2.17). I run ipchains to do packet filtering, allowing incoming connections only to 22 and 80 (and some other ports for specific machines). I was able to run prior versions of openssh in this fashion (I've run it from the first release, I think). Upon installing 2.5.1p1 I found that my attempts to connect hang, here is ssh

F-secure v1 client has trouble connecting to openssh-2.5.1p1
I'm observing that mac clients using F-Secure ssh v1 client log into the ssh server, and then the client just hangs with nothing on the screen. In the SYSLOG file, I see this: Accepted password for user from host port whatever Packet integrity error (62 != 58) at session.c:350 Disconnecting: Packet integrity error. (34) This is sshd running on IRIX 6.5.3f

Lets try this push again.. 2.5.1p2 bugs left.
Things that are still outstanding: 1) Solaris/Redhat/HPUX session.c patch. I've not seen a ya or na on Kevin's pam patch from the Solaris group. 2) Odd Redhat/Debian scp/ssh issues. .. I'm baffled, and I can't replicate the bug. Nor have I seen anything remotely like it reported. 3) SCO.. Is it happy yet for compiling? =) Completed: 1) mdoc2man.pl .. Commited into

ssh-add won't look for id_dsa in ssh-clients-2.3.0p1-4 but did in ssh-clients-2.5.1p2-1
I've been running ssh-clients-2.3.0p1-4 on RedHat 7.0 and upgraded to 2.5.1p2-1 yesterday from ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable/rpm/SRPMS/. I noticed that 2.5.1p2-1 ssh-add won't look for id_dsa.pub by default -- if I have no identity file it just says "/home/klotz/.ssh/identity: No such file or directory" The 2.5.1p1-1 I got from RedHat's rawhide site

Logitech G11 keyboard and wine
Hi, I've been reading this list for a while, and now I've got an issue of my own. A week or two ago, I got myself a logitech G11 keyboard, mainly for the extra buttons. It's working fine on windows, and in linux with g15daemon, but I'm having trouble getting the extra keys (G1-G18) it to work in wine. I've searched around on the internet, but most I managed to find is

AIX authenticate patches
Here are some patches to re-enable support for AIX's authenticate routines. With them, ssh will honor locked & unlocked accounts, record successful and unsuccessful logins, and deny accounts that are prohibited to log in via the network. Tested with AIX 4.3. It also includes a fix for handling SIGCHLD that may be needed for other platforms (HP-UX 10.20, for example). If I get the time

OpenSSH 2.5.1 compatibility problem
SSH server specs: ----------------------- Redhat Linux 6.2 Custom built 2.2.17 kernel OpenSSL 0.9.5a (update from RedHat). OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 I am using my Linux box as an Internet gateway. I wanted to keep the box as secure as possible while still having the functionality I needed. The only way to connect to my server is through SSH. A fair majority of the time I am attempting to
