DNS is confusing! (I really need some help understanding!)
OK, I am confused and DNS is the reason. So, Comcast, 13 public IP's bound to my modem. Each public IP has a DNS name from comcast (they assign it automatically) like: 173.13.167.209 --> 173-13-167-209-sfba.hfc.comcastbusiness.net I created a DNS entry at GoDaddy for 173.13.167.209 that is 'inhouse.theindiecompanyllc.com' When eth0 is alive, I see that it tells me my name

Resilvering Loop
I have a situation where my zpool (with two radiz2s) is resilvering and reaches a certain point, then starts over. There no read, write or checksum errors. The disks do have a fair amount of resilvering to do, as I''ve had a variety of disk failures. But at the core of things, there''s enough parity data to avoid data loss, and the zpool is functioning fine, albeit in a

Slow Resilvering Performance
I know this topic has been discussed many times... but what the hell makes zpool resilvering so slow? I''m running OpenSolaris 2009.06. I have had a large number of problematic disks due to a bad production batch, leading me to resilver quite a few times, progressively replacing each disk as it dies (and now preemptively removing disks.) My complaint is that resilvering ends up

ANOVA in quantreg - faulty test for 'nesting'?
I am trying to implement an ANOVA on a pair of quantile regression models in R. The anova.rq() function performs a basic check to see whether the models are nested, but I think this check is failing in my case. I think my models are nested despite the anova.rqlist() function saying otherwise. Here is an example where the GLM ANOVA regards the models as nested, but the quantile regression ANOVA

DateTime Math in R - POSIXct
Greetings - I'm battling POSIXct, as per the code below. My input is actually an XL file, but the weird results below correctly model what I am seeing in my program. Before I punt and use lubridate or timeDate, could anyone please help me understand why POSIXct forces my variable back to GMT? I suspect that I'm not properly coding the tzone value, but it does not throw an

xend memory leakage
When I repeated restarting VM or define and undefined VM during my recently test, memory leakage of xend is detected. Our elementary conclusion is that the python memory management mechanism causes this problem, but I do not know how to further locate the exact lines. Can anybody here give me any suggestions? Thx. Memory Leakage in Gluster 3.10.2-1
Hi All, We are using GlusterFS 3.10.2 (upgraded from 3.7.0 last week) on CentOS 7.x . We continue to see memory utilization going up once every 3 days. The memory utilization of the server demon(glusterd) in ?server is keep on increasing. In about 30+ hours the Memory utilization of glusterd service alone will reach 70% of memory available. Since we have alarms for this threshold, we get notified

Packets Sizes and Information Leakage
So one of my coworkers is doing a little research on SSH usage in the wild using netflow data. One of the things he's trying to do is determine a way to differentiate between data transfers and interactive sessions. We thought of a couple of ways but we wanted to float them here and see if there are methods incorporated to defeat thi sort of traffic analysis. The first idea is to look at

R crashes with package SJava; was Memory leakage?
Dear All, <<OS and software>> R-1.81 j2sdk1.4.0_03 SJava_0.66-1 Windows NT4.01 I try to run R from Java with SJava and I seem to have the same problem as discussed before in this mail list a few month ago: https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2003-May/031960.html https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2003-May/031962.html

pop3-login process leakage
Hi, I've recently deployed dovecot on our servers, to replace courier-imapd. I'm delighted with its features and performance, but there's a major problem - it's leaking pop3-login processes. We have about 60 client machines, each collecting mail once every two minutes. In this configuration, the number of pop3-login processes increases by about ten an hour - apparently without

key management with ssh-agent, IdentityFile and info leakage
editors note: just now found something about IdentitiesOnly that might do the trick. there's some other stuff in here too. about preventing info leakage [keys for other sites] from appearing in the client<-->server key negotiation with ssh-agent and IdentityFile. ssh/config:IdentityFile - seems to indicate that only the specified key will be tried, and if that key fails, no other keys

Information leakage in sshd
Hi guys, and here's a security related bug report. I think it's has been fixed in the 2.2.x-release of openssh, but I'm not sure. I tried to reproduce the problem with my 2.2.0p1 and could find any difference in the behaviour of ssh depending on wether PermitRootLogin was set to no. Could someone please confirm that this problem is not existing anymore? > When PermitRootLogin is

Apache leaks sensitive info in PHP phpinfo() calls
Hi, I wanted to get some opinions on this subject before I submit a PR about it. I don't know if there are any pitfalls with the 'fix' I suggested and though it best to run it past people here before submitting. If there's a better place to post this please let me know (freebsd-ports?). The send-pr output I was about to send explains everything so I'll just paste it here:
