Kernel lockup (kjournald?)
I am getting an odd situation when backing up a number of ext3 filesystems and was wondering if it could be caused by journalling. Over the space of a minute the load average will jump from 2 to over 40 and the system will be unresponsive for anywhere from 8 to 25 minutes. I am going to be trying a number of things, but was wondering if anyone could see the reason for the high load given the

Disk usage incorrectly reported by du
I have an ext4 filesystem for which the reported disk usage is not correct. I have noticed the discrepancy after I rsync-ed the content to another filesystem and noticed that the used space on the target is almost double of the size reported on the source. Both machines are running the same software - with the same kernel version and same coreutils version (which I later upgraded to latest

Dovecot, pop3, mBox
I have to migrate some old system to new one with installed dovecot (It's my first time using dovecot). I have all mails inside /var/spool/mail folder (mbox files). I can connect and receive mails via POP3, but problem is that dovecot doesn't clear mbox file (everytime when I make send/receive in mailclient program I get all mails again). If I look into log file I see (when I do

[PATCH 0/4] Allow shrinking of ext2, PVs and NTFS
This patch series allows you to shrink various objects, as requested in the following bugs: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585221 # resize2fs https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585222 # pvresize https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585223 # ntfsresize The first patch provides a consistent way to specify numbers with suffixes to guestfish, eg: truncate-size /foo

Increased memory usage between 4.8 and 5.5
I'm running into a memory problem when trying to switch some web servers that are running centos4.8/x86_64 to centos5.5/x86_64. The new servers running centos5.5 are using a decent amount more memory than the centos4.8 servers. Here's an example from top: --- centos 5.5 --- $ uname -a Linux ws51 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 12:50:31 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

ext3 buffer leak/memory leak?
Hi, I am a new ext3 user and I am having some problems. I seem to have introduced a memory leak after adding ext3 support to the kernel. I noticed when running top or viewing /proc/meminfo my free memory pool seems to be decreasing while my buffers are increasing (around the same rate). I am currently using a root partition and a /var partition. I have listed the ext3 boot messages below.

Asterisk-CVS-HEAD locks up on 'reload' from CLI (sometimes)
Lately when I issue a 'reload' from the CLI, I find that it will sometimes hang forever, completely locked up. I can press enter and see the CLI prompt move, but no commands are taken. "top" shows asterisk eating everything up: PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME CPU COMMAND 20669 root 25 0 10068 9.8M 5392 R 88.4 1.9 1:02 0 asterisk

chan_sip deadlocks after some time
Hello everybody, I'm running Asterisk 1.2.24 on three servers which are configured almost identical. The servers use IAX to communicate between each other and SIP to communicate with the outside world through a Patton Smartnode 4960 gateway. One server has about 30 SIP phones registered, the other two servers have about 100 phones registered each. The "small" server runs fine

Stalled Authentication, Great Clues
I've just installed Dovecot 0.99.12.1 onto a White Box EL 3 server. I'm mostly following the email server setup instructions at http://www.wanderingbarque.com/mailserver.html and getting Dovecot to work is the last task to complete. I've compiled Dovecot with LDAP support. I'm authenticating Postfix via SASL to the LDAP database just fine, and I also authenticate and

disk space trouble on ec2 instance
Hey all, Ok, so I've been having some trouble for a while with an EC2 instance running CentOS 5.11 with a disk volume reporting 100% usage. Root is on an EBS volume. So I've tried the whole 'du -sk | sort -nr | head -10' routine all around this volume getting rid of files. At first I was getting rid of about 50MB of files. Yet the volume remains at 100% capacity. Thinking

smbd eating 99% CPU what to do?
Do you know what can cause the smbd process to steal out the cpu usage (99%) and keep running like that for days? I have a Samba PDC 3.0.1pre3 running on top of RH9 2.4.20 kernel. Below is the current top report. Strangely, the PDC still responds in reasonable good response times to heavy network duty.traced the log.%machine name% and didn't find anything . I haven't tried to restart smb
