Upgrading FC2 -> Centos4RC1 (possible, but messy)
This was my experience with upgrading, your mileage may vary especially
if it's in kilometers. This is what I had to do to get my system
running again.
##############
In order to attempt this upgrade, I had to use "linux upgradeany", a
mode not listed for the installer CDs.
My first problem was I could no longer boot the system after the
upgrade. My grub menu showed my old

Permission denied after upgrade to FC2
Well, after hearing nothing, and being irritated
enough with this problem, I did some exhaustive
googling and turned up with this:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-June/msg00769.html
Apparently there are now 2 security policy changes you
must make on a 2003 dc instead of just the one like
before.
Once I had our Win Admin make the change, I was able
to smbmount everything again.

smbmount -> Permission denied after upgrade to FC2
Hello all, hopefully someone has run into this before.
I was previously running RH9 with Samba 3.0.2a and
would normally mount a document folder to a Win2003
server share.
Prior to the upgrade, my mount would work fine, but
after upgrading to FC2 (Samba 3.0.5) I now receive
"Permission denied" when trying to access the
succesfully mounted share. In addition, when I try to

Centos 4.2 and Boot/Root on RAID?
Hi,
I have a client that insists on going with software rather than hardware
raid1 to save a few dollars.
Can Centos 4.2 do Boot and Root on software Raid1?
I've heard criticisms of Grub and bootable RAID. Also, if it is not set
up to work out of the box, I'd like to try to talk them out of it.
I've been down that road before. If I go nonstandard, by the time I
actually need

FC2 POP Configurtion
I'm a newbie to dovecot and a little bit less of a newbit to linux. I
am in the process of moving my server from RH9 to FC2. The only
obstacle remaining is my email. I run sendmail with netscape mail
clients - mostly PC's. They all can read their mail but none of the
users can send. Depending on the state of the dovecot.conf file, I get
the following:

OK, let me try this again. . . .

Hello list.
I've just read this news (http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=02638) - in
my opinion very good idea. What do you think?

Upgrading to CentOS 6
I recently built a CentOS 6 system as my main machine at home.
With a bit of help from members of this list, it is now working
better than the machine it replaced (RIP).
The new machine works so well, that I would like to convert some
CentOS 5 machines to CentOS6.
I did some research on the web and the new install is still considered
the proper way to upgrade CentOS. Same as Fedora and RHEL.

Upgrade install using CentOS-3.1 ISO images
Cutting straight to the chase:
When, if ever, does the installer offer an option to upgrade an existing
installation, rather than wanting to reformat the disks?
More details than you may want:
I recently acquired a new PC chassis, with no operating system but with a
Serial-ATA disk (which I was not expecting when I ordered it). I set the
BIOS for legacy IDE mode and installed RedHat 9, then

upgrading 3.6->4
greetings - I'm trying to upgrade a centos 3.6 box to version 4. I
tried to do an upgrade using yum but that failed and now the Cd
installer is not letting me upgrade either. Here's what I did:
following the howto, I tried to do the upgrade using yum. I installed
the GPG key and upgraded the centos-release and the centos-yumconf
packages. When I tried to upgrade yum package I ran

RadRails config? Getting blank project only created?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to correctly configure RadRails (0.7)?
I can''t seem to get 0.7 version of radrails to create a Rails project.
All I get is a blank project. I have ensured that my PATH does point to
my ruby\bin area. Also any clarification regarding which directory
(with an example) should be used for the following preferences setting

centos 3.3 to 4.x?
Greetings,
A friend of mine is running 3.3
He asked what I thought about going to 4.4
I imagine it is best to backup and fresh install and migrate old configs and
data
What is the wisdom on the list
I remember going from beta 3 to 3 a long time ago.
Anyone ever upgrade from 3.x to 4.x without problem and how so?
I didn't see a lot on the www other than some apt-get info

Samba rpm and /var/*/samba directory for .tdb files
Hi,
I use CentOS4 (RHEL4) and it seems that I was using /var/lib/samba
for storing the .tdb files. Then I compilled the fedora .src.rpm from
samba.org
and it points now to /var/cache/samba
I will build tonight the .rpm from the .tar.gz and see which directory samba
choose for the .tdb files in CentOS4.
Anyone can confirm this list of distro/.tdb directory:
Fedora: /var/cache/samba

Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc
Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc?
If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old)
install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations
(e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under
4.1.

How does CentOS compare with FC 3
I have FC 3 running on my "play/test" box. Is CentOS (RHEL) a level above?
Can I do an Upgrade or should I do an Install?
