privsep versus compression
Hi,
I'm unable to get Kerberos4 authentication working with openssh-3.4p1.
I'm getting a message that privsep is not available on my platform (Irix
6.5.15) and another message stating that compression and privsep are
mutually exclusive. But, ssh decided to turn off compression, I think
because of servconf.c. I think it would be more usefull to have
compression enabled and disable privsep

ssh-3.5p1 core dumps on Solaris 2.6
Hi,
I've reported this problem a month ago on this list, and probably no-one
is interested? Binaries were configured with krb4 and afs enabled.
However, only the second crash seems to be related to krb4.
Any thoughts?
I had to add one line to includes.h:
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <sys/ioctl.h>
+#include <sys/ioccom.h>

Samba performance issues
Hi all
We are implementing samba-ldap to act as an nt pdc and are seeing
performance problems.
We have a 1ghz, 3gb Ram, 36gb box that is running samba-2.2.5 and
openldap-2.0.23 under redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3.
Clients are all Win2k SP3.
All the ldap requests are to the localhost interface.
The box is acting as the PDC for the domain, and also sharing diskspace
and printers.
When we get

sandbox-rlimit and ptrace.
I was wondering if the following attack would be feasible once I'm able
to break into rlimit sandbox.
Because sandboxed process that handles unauthenticated session is
running as the 'sshd' user I was wondering if this could be used to jump
between processes using ptrace(2). For example if I find a bug in the
code executed before authentication I could use ptrace(2) to attach to

Listing Domain controllers, Local and Master Browsers running in your network
Hi,
when trying to configure my samba server, I was curious if there's any
Domain controller running on our subnet. I could only find notes in
documentation of samba, that there has to be only one Domain Controller
running, otherwise weird things would happen ... Btw what are those weird
things?
I couldn't find an option in smbclient or nmblookup to list for example

R-2.0.0/lib/R/bin/INSTALL (PR#7329)
Hi,
the install script should make sure user has set R_HOME variable.
I don't have it as root, and get stupid messages. Anyway, should it be set
to $blah/R-2.0.0/lib/R/ or $blah/R-2.0.0 ?
Thanks for help

[PATCH]: Fix syscall return code when ptrace or audit is active
Attached is a simple patch to fix the return value from the 64-bit kernel when
you call with a bad system call number with tracing enabled (for either ptrace
or audit). What should happen is that the user process gets a -ENOSYS return
call from the syscall; what actually happens (only in the 64-bit kernel) is that
you get back the system call number. The 32-bit kernel does not suffer from

[PATCH] Password expiry with Privsep and PAM
Hi All.
Attached is a patch that implements password expiry with PAM and
privsep. It works by passing a descriptor to the tty to the monitor,
which sets up a child with that tty as stdin/stdout/stderr, then runs
chauthtok(). No setuid helpers.
I used some parts of Michael Steffens' patch (bugid #423) to make it
work on HP-UX.
It's still rough but it works. Tested on Solaris 8 and

Trying regression tests
I know it is just after a release, but I'm trying to see how the
regression tests look on Tru64. I hadn't had a chance to really look at
them before because I didn't have sudo installed on Tru64 (now I do).
Anyway, for the 3.9p1 release, all of them run except for a couple of
problems:
- agent-ptrace fails; it looks like setgid isn't enough to kill tracing
under Tru64, and I

PATCH: add xc_domain_setdebugging in xenctrl API
Hi,
for ia64, I''d like to add xc_domain_setdebugging() in the xenctrl API.
This patch implements it and modifies xc_ptrace.c to use it.
The rationnal is enabling debugging tool not based on the ptrace API.
The ptrace API is based on Linux ptrace which (at least on ia64) doesn''t
have many privilegied registers.
I''d prefer this patch being integrated on

use PT_DENY_ATTACH on Mac OS X
Hi.
Mac OS X has a PT_DENY_ATTACH argument to ptrace(2) which does what
it says on the tin:
PT_DENY_ATTACH
This request is the other operation used by the traced
process; it allows a process that is not currently being
traced to deny future traces by its parent. All other
arguments are ignored. If the process is currently being
traced, it

cross-platform build, guys ! it compiled straight out of the box.
i can start the server and it even connects to a remote server and
starts to relay. when i run xmms from another machine and connect, it
stops at "pre-buffering 0/32k". here's an

[RFC] [PATCH] Split host arch headers for UML's benefit
The patch below fixes the recent UML compilation failure in -rc5-mm1
without making the UML build reach further into the i386 headers. It
splits the i386 ptrace.h and system.h into UML-usable and UML-unusable
pieces.
The string "abi" is in there because I did ptrace.h first, and that
involves separating the ptrace ABI stuff from everything else (if
pt_regs is not considered part of
