Hello, I have a text file with one column containing long number but stored as string. I download the file with read.table (and colClass) and the first row of this column is : "095842087016731010" As I need to make some calculations with these numbers, I tried to convert them using as.numeric. continuous key press results in core dump (PR#331)
I encountered this today (I admit it is a result of downright abuse) Segmentation fault under abnormal conditions (as when stupid finger accidentally leaned on key): at 128 (at least by my count) "continuous" (zzzzzzzzz... or 123qwertyuio...) characters but NOT when enclosed in " ", and not if numbers. >

Defunct / zombie AGI after some execution time
Hello, We are running Asterisk-1.0.12 in a CentOS 4-4.2 system, kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. We have some custom AGI, and when we launch Asterisk the system works fine. But **after some time**, each AGI execution generates a zombie <defunct> process. We believe that it's not a problem in the AGI code, because Asterisk+AGI is working fine in the first "n" minutes/hours. This

executable R script under xp (to avoid migration toward Matlab or C++)
Hello, I discovered R two years ago and thanks to the R-community I managed to write some scripts to analyze my data stored in mysql databases. The only problem is that I am the only one using R in the lab. Colleagues mainly use Matlab (but not with mysql, only with text files) but regularly come to me to get data treated with R-scripts !!!. To allow the use of my scripts by other people, my

looking for the RMySQL package for R 2.12.0 under XP
Hello, I convinced our new Ph student to work with R and I managed to convince the guy in charge of the computer networks to install R 2.12.0 (we haven't the admin rights). I wanted to install on his computer the same packages I use (but I have R 2.11) and especially RMySQL. Problem : there is no more RMySQL package in the list pf the packages. I've tried to install my version but it is

Samba File Server as Domain Member of Samba PDC
Hi We have configured 2 PDC Samba (v3.0.33, sambapdc1 and sambapdc2) servers using LDAP (389 DS v1.2.5) as its database backend. If I run "net rpc user -UXXXX" from theses servers I get all groups in LDAP. These servers are working fine for a long time. Now I have configured a file server (not logon server, sambafs1), as a member of the domain served by those servers (this with

add horizontal reference lines in lattice bwplot
I'm plotting a lattice bwplot from a data.frame and would like to add some horizontal lines indicating some reference values (preferably with text annotation) as well as a grid of regular log tics. The following illustrates the plot: data(ToothGrowth) require("lattice") p = bwplot(exp(len) ~ supp, ToothGrowth, panel = function(..., box.ratio) { panel.grid(h=-1,

add constraints to nls or use another function
Hello, I'm trying to fit experimental data with a model and nls. For some experiments, I have data with x from 0 to 1.2 and the fit is quite good. But it can happen that I have data only the [0,0.8] range (see the example below) and, then, the fit is not correct. I would like to add a constraint, for example : the second derivative must be positive. But I don't know how to add this to

samba handles nt logon restrictions wrong
we use samba as member servers with security=domain pointing towards a WinNT4 PDC. accounts that have workstation logon restrictions are unable to connect to samba shared ressources but are able to connect to windows nt shared ressources as they should. normally, workstation logon restriction should deny only interactive logons. the 2.0.5 logfile entry:

Unbalanced parentheses printed by warnings() crash text editor
Hello everyone, Hope it is the good place for this (I discuss the question of the right place below). Most of the time, warnings are more than 1000 characters long and thus are truncated. Most of the time, this generates printouts with unbalanced parentheses. Intelligent text editors which do parentheses highlighting get very confused with this. After too many warnings, they give errors, and

String overflow with random characters
Hi, I've got a problem with a 2.2.2 samba server. It has, a number of times, recorded the following lines for a short period of time of 10 seconds, and then not again for days. Has anyone seen these before? It all appears to be random characters. It has only happened from 2 machines out of 30 or so. At the end of the message, you will find a simple example (function is more complex and data frames is more than 1 million of rows) of what I would like to do, that is applying the same calculation to all the rows of the data frame (knowing that I cannot

Problem with as.POSIXlt$hour
Hello, In one of my functions, I need to extract the hour from a date. For example: as.POSIXlt("2010-03-27 02:00:00")$hour gives 2 as expected. It works for all the dates I've tested except the following one which is in my list of dates: as.POSIXlt("2010-03-28 02:00:00")$hour which gives 0. I don't understand why it doesn't work with this particular date. Any
