Ldapscripts v1.4 is out
Hello all,
And now a small advert ;-)
I'm pleased to announce the v 1.4 of the ldapscripts.
The ldapscripts are shell scripts provided under the terms of the GPL license.
They allow to manage POSIX accounts (users, groups, machines) in an LDAP
directory. They can be used on GNU/Linux and FreeBSD (and any other Unix-like
?). They are similar to the smbldap-tools but are written in sh, not

Moving LDAP tree
Hi,
I posted earlier to the samba-technical list, asking how to change the
source to reflect my Windows 2003 setup, which apparently uses a different
place to store DNS entries. But it's probably better to just move that part
of the LDAP tree to where Samba expects it, so that's what I'm attempting
now. (the original thread is at the end of this mail for reference)
I would like to

Problems setting up Samba+LDAP PDC in Debian Sarge
Dear list,
I have been struggling to get working a PDC using Samba with LDAP
backend, in a fresh Debian Sarge install.

I'm reading IDEALX's Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto as guidance. In my
last attempt, everything appeared to be fine until the very end, the
Integration test, when I added an admin user, got it on the "Domain

LDAPS on DC
I'm trying to confirm that LDAP traffic is encrypted on my Samba 4 DC. I
have read and followed https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_LDAPS_on_a_DC
but when I attempt to connect to the DC on port 636 or via ldaps:// or both
via ldapsearch (linux) and ldp (windows) I cannot connect.

Re LDAP adding workstation accounts fails (but not really???)
I very much appreciate the help thus far, but I think it has strayed a
bit from the actual problem.
The problem is that when I join a system to the samba domain it
creates /some/ but not all of the required attributes for the computer
account. The process then fails as samba looks in the wrong part of my
directory server. I would strongly prefer to put the workstation
accounts in their own tree

ldapsearch -> samba4
Samba 4.0.0beta4, CentOS 6.3 (openldap 2.4.23-26.el6), samba-generated
krb5.conf.
I have joined a Linux client to the samba4 domain and extracted the
kerberos5 keytab (using "kerberos method = system keytab"):
# kinit Administrator (succeeds)
# net ads join createupn=host/<client.fqdn>@REALM -k (succeeds)
# net ads keytab create (succeeds)
# net ads testjoin (is OK)

tinydns -some help needed
Is there a tinydns or dns wizard that could give me some hints, please?
I am setting up and testing tinydns, but have some problems figuring out
how to route. I do get dnscache to listen on tinydns. Also I do not
understand why it will not answer the given ip (127.0.0.1) to the name
server.

ldapsearch & GSSAPI => Server not found in Kerberos database
Solved : )
Reminder of the issue:
Every services (CIFS, Kerberos, LDAP, DNS, RPC) on one DC were working well
and ldapsearch using DN and password were also working.
The only thing which was not working was ldapsearch using GSSAPI
authentication with the following error:
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started

strange Samba3 / sudo / ldapsearch problem
Hi,
I recently triied to set up a special PDF creation service for a customer. The
Samba3 server is a AD2003 member server. Since the created PDF files
need to be sent via e-mail to the creators, I need to issue an LDAP
query against the AD, like
ldapsearch -h 10.243.50.22 -Y GSSAPI -b "ou=user,ou=... ..." \

shipped my SFW did not work properly.
Now I had to realize, that the Problems are still there so I beleve
that it is a common Problem with Solaris (?)
I have samba running as PDC with a Sun Directory Server as backend.
All Authentication to Unix Clients work well with DSEE but Samba seems

Access denied error when trying to join XP to Samba Domain
Hi everyone,
I know this one has been addressed before. I have had so much trouble
getting the IDEALX scripts to work that I set about writing my own and
they almost work. The trouble is with the add machine script. The
first time I do the join, I get an access denied error message on
WinXP. I have verified that an entry for the machine was successfully
created in ldap. Then, I try again
