Installation problem, possibly RAID
I burned a DVD for CentOS 4.1. I booted from it and everything went fine for the graphical screen installation. I choose separate partitions for my /boot (hde6), / (hde9), and swap (hde12) areas. My /boot partition was ext2 and my / partition was ext3. I installed grub in my /boot partition successfully. I have a Boot Loader, System Commander 8.13 which controls the MBR. The installation then

creating partitions on a 2.7TB drive
Hello, sorry for the long email, it's a little hard to explain this issue. The gist of it is that the Ubuntu version of parted allowed me to do something which perhaps should not be allowed i.e. creating partitions on a 2.7TB drive when the partition table is not *gpt* but *msdos*. I am trying to configure 2 identical servers, both are Dell Poweredge 2970 machines with 6 disks in them

'partitions not contstrained to drive'???
I was trying to do a new install on RAID1 and my first drive happened to be partitioned correctly from previous use so I tried the 'clone partions' option in disk druid to create matching ones on the second drive and got this error message: "The source drive has partitions which are not constrained to the drive /dev/sda". What does that mean? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell

Sharing a Secondary Hard Drive
I just recently installed a second hard drive in my Samba server with the hopes of sharing it with the rest of my home network. It seems like Samba can not get the correct permissions to the drive, however. I have the drive mounted under /media/public, and when I try to map a share directly to it and open the share with a client, I get an NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error. When I map the

mount xen partitions inside logical volume from dom0?
I''ve installed a FC5 domU under RHEL5-beta2 dom0 with virt-manager. As the disk for domU I used: phy:/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02,xvda,w In the domU I have partitions: /dev/xvda1 on / type ext3 (rw) /dev/xvda2 on /var type ext3 (rw) How do I access these partitions from dom0? For example if I take an LVM snapshot of LogVol02, how do I mount the / partition of the domU installed on

Mounting a LVM partition on a USB attached drive
I have one of those USB hard drive cases, and I have my old hard drive in it. Eventhough I have made the changes to mount multiple USB drives in one USB device (works fine for my media play with internal and SD drive), I am only getting the first partition (/Boot (2)) automounted. df does not show anything more about the drive, but the gnome hardware browser shows all three partitions on the

Dear All, I am running a two location SOHO network with a Microsoft AD on a Windows 2008 R2 server. The only secondary DC is a Microsoft HyperV VM running on the same Windows machine. My aim is to become more independent from Microsoft products. Nevertheless, I need to upgrade my server to Windows 2016 sometime soon - which does not mean that the DC level needs to be upgraded to Server 2016

lvm errors after replacing drive in raid 10 array
I thought I'd test replacing a failed drive in a 4 drive raid 10 array on a CentOS 5.2 box before it goes online and before a drive really fails. I 'mdadm failed, removed', powered off, replaced drive, partitioned with sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdb, and finally 'mdadm add'ed'. Everything seems fine until I try to create a snapshot lv. Resize all partitions bigger
I effectively have 1 drive /dev/sda (it's actually a hardware raid 10 array) I have lots of free sapce. I want to resize my partitions (boot, home, /) bigger. Going to use Clonezilla to make an image of each partition and save it on another box. Then re-partition and format new bigger partitions. Then restore images with Clonezilla. But I know UUID's will be wrong and I don't feel
