Domain-specific HLT when idle
Hello hpa, We are developing a Xen-based virtualization service, and we are trying to reduce excessive CPU utilization at isolinux boot prompts. When users boot up a virtual machine on an isolinux boot CD, the CPU starts spinning at 100%. These machines frequently get left in this state for days or weeks, degrading the service for everyone else. You replied to the work-around discussed in

It seems the "machine check exception handling" breaks HVM guest
Hi Jan Beulich, > changeset 15414: 3cf5052ba5e5 x86: machine check exception handling With the c/s, when creating HVM guest, I can only see a white Qemu window. :( Can you have a look? Thanks. 3.0.2 hvmloader
Hello! I want to run windows in xen. My linux distrution in ubuntu 6.06 amd 64. I downloaded and installed xen 3.0.2 from binaries. I found that hvmloader is not included in binary distribution :-( So I try to compile it from sources. RE: Installing Redhat 7,3 with hvm
If anyone is still interested in this old thread, I have a rh7.3 image running under hvm. It''s a hack, but here''s what I did: Install rh7.3 in a vmware machine with vmware server. Booted off a live cd, ( I used a gentoo installer CD, but any live cd should work) Created a lvm volume on my Xen dom0 >From the liveCD, I use dd to copy the disk image to the lvm image (dd

Xen 3.2 and Big Real Mode support?
Hello, I read in the announce of Xen 3.2.0 released that it has "preliminary support for a wider range of bootloaders in fully virtualised (HVM) guests, using full emulation of x86 ''real mode''" . I''d like to know what is the level of the emulation of x86 ''real mode''? I ask that because I tried to install OpenSuse 10.3 (I used the iso file

RE: A question on vmx loader in xen - how and when rombiosis loaded into memory
Thank you. I notice the system then jumps to F000:FFF0 to execute. But because VMX is turned on, switching to real-mode would incur problems? I don’t find any clue to turn on the vm86 mode as Readme in the tools/firmware directory puts. A question on vmx loader in xen - how and when rombios is loaded into memory
A "main" function is defined in Xen-3.1.0-source/tools/firmware/hvmloader/hvmloader.c. In this main function, rombios, vgabios and vmxassist are copied to specified address, with following commands memcpy((void *)ROMBIOS_PHYSICAL_ADDRESS, rombios, rombios_sz); ... memcpy((void *)ETHERBOOT_PHYSICAL_ADDRESS, etherboot, sizeof(etherboot)); .... But after searching the whole

Noncentral t & F distributions
Dear List: The square of the noncentral t-statistic with noncentrality parameter \delta is a noncentral F with noncentrality parameter \lambda=\delta^2. So, t^2_{\nu,\delta} = F_{1,\nu,\lambda=\delta^2}. Consequently, it should follow that t^2_{1-\alpha/2,\nu,\delta} = f_{1-alpha,1,\vu,\lambda=\delta^2}. However, this is not what is happening with the following code. The central

Usage of apply function with two matrices
Hello, I am struggling to overcome following problem: I have matrix Vf and matrix V, which both have 3 columns and I want to create a spline function basing on coordinates from this matrices (more precisely coordinates of function nr 1: x are taken from Vf[,1] and y are taken from V[,1] respectively), because function apply() base on 1 argument I made it in this way:

FreeBSD boot loader on VT-x based Xen system
Folks -- I''m trying to run FreeBSD 6.0 on a VT-x based Xen system. I''m experiencing a problem where the boot loader is crashing before the FreeBSD kernel (proper) is loaded. The sequence of operations is that the VMX domain is constructed, the BIOS is executed, GRUB loads, I type the instructions to load FreeBSD (a boot loader) and that code begins to execute and then

RE: Installing Redhat 7,3 with hvm
Not yet, but I don''t see any reason for it to work any differently. I simply used vmware because it was convenient. -Adam | -----Original Message----- | From: Simon Gao [mailto:gao@schrodinger.com] | Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2006 11:22 AM | To: Adam Crews -X (acrews - Xerox at Cisco) | Cc: xen-users@lists.xensource.com; Mike Freemon | Subject: Re: [Xen-users]
