new install hang after "setting hostname"
All, I have a new install. software RAID-1. everything installed normal (2 - 40 GIG IDE drives) After install, reboot and the box starts the graphic boot, then hangs on "setting hostname". After a few minutes it drops out of graphic install and the last thing on the screen is "Checking root filesystem". It then sets there FOREVER. Any ideas? I have already re-installed from

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents, I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2, after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same. going VERY slow... The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time (3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG). While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and could not keep up. Anyway just reporting that so far

Experiences with WINS-Migration NT -> Samba ?
Hi all, I'd like to replace an old NT-wins server by a linux box with samba and I'm wondering how long it will take for the wins-table on the linux machine to get filled up from scatch (the size of the net is of order 1000 machines). Does anyone have *real-life* data/experiences of such a migration ? Any tipps or hints ? Is there a way/tool to convert the (Windows) Wins-DB into the

Can''t boot HVM Win2k8 R2 x64 DVD ISO (Viridian?)
Hi all, I''m stuck with a peculiar problem. I have CentOS 5.5 and Xen. I have numerous Windows 2003 guests and never had this problem. An application requires SQL server 2008 which is requiring Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the 2.8 Gig install DVD ISO. I create a new guest and connect the ISO as hdc. The system starts and says "Starting Windows" but hangs and no

Make errors in /usr/src/release/sysinstall
I'm cvsupping 4.8-STABLE to 4.8-STABLE. The cvsup run finished about 23:32 on 7/13. After make buildworld, make buildkernel, mergemaster -p, make installworld, and mergemaster -v, I do (per mostgraveconcern, RIP): cd /usr/src/release/sysinstall make clean make all install The 'make all install' gives errors: In file included from keymap.c:40: keymap.h:4436: `keymap_be_iso'

[PATCH/RFC OSSTEST] Debian PV netboot guest test
I''ve been working on this on the odd occasion, I think it mostly works, or it did last I tried which was a while back. I''m sure it is too hacky in places. My plan was to clean it up on the next test day. I''m mostly just sending this for Wei''s benefit since he is independently looking at adding Debian HVM guest tests for OVMF purposes. Ian. commit

recovery system
First: My English is not that good, I hope you can understand what I mean. We plan to build a recovery system for the computer in our school. We want to put an [computername].tar.bz2 for every computer onto our server. When the computer does not work we want to use a Linux bootdisk to boot the computer, mount the drive, erase what is there and extract the .tar.bz2 onto the disk. This is where we

Keymap definitions via virsh XML definition?
Hi, up to this point, I had never bothered about local keymap settings for my domUs because I only ever used RDP to access windows domains and serial for solaris/linux, but today I really needed to use the VNC console with a german keyboard layout. This is still on snv_111 I had tried setting <graphics type=''vnc'' port=''5900''
