USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it. I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd. As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine but

Memdisk doesn't work without floppy drive
Hi, I stumbled on a rather odd problem. A brand new HP Compaq dx2200 computer didn't want to boot up pxelinux+memdisk image. The computer just gave "Disk I/O error" and stopped there. Workaround was rather simple... Just attach regular floppy drive to the motherboard and everything started working fine. I tried with older 2.05 (pxelinux+memdisk) and newer 3.31. Both produced

Disabling MEMDISK
I have added instructions to memdisk.doc for how to disable MEMDISK. However, it's unlikely that this will work if you're running under DOS, since DOS will be very unhappy about drives changing underneath it. Anyway, until the next (pre)release comes out, here are the instructions: --- memdisk.doc 27 Apr 2004 06:49:36 -0000 1.10 +++ memdisk.doc 6 Jul 2004 01:29:03 -0000 @@ -122,5

Boot image from hard drive from syslinux initiated by a floppy disk boot
I have been trying to find the information by searching through the archives and google, so I am sorry if this question has been asked before I just have not been able to find an answer. I have a syslinux boot floppy which loads to the boot prompt, I wish to load a .gz image which is on my hd0 0 by using memdisk as the kernel. I have tried to kernel memdisk append root=/dev/hd0 0 (also just

syslinux-3.36-pre8 feedback
Tested floppy boot on two machines (one PII 350, one 486DX4) Floppy boot with syslinux is very very slow, more than 18 mn to boot a linux kernel from floppy on the 2 machines. Tested with 3 different disquettes that were know to work, boot is reached after this very long time. Noise from floppy head make think floppy wait approximatly one minute between each read. No problem with pxe boot with

Loading syslinux native from a USB HDD
Hi there guys! I want to set up Puppy-Linux to run off a 2GB USB key-drive in native mode (I.e. not as a virtual machine, which I'm finding runs too slow on my system, under XP.) To test it out, I want to run off a 150GB USB HDD. Now this drive is NTFS formatted and way bigger than the 1GB file structure limit that I read about in the Syslinux documentation. There's only one

Adding memdisk or similar when booting linux
Hi Thanx guys for the help on understanding howto read dmi info! I now have a custom boot menu for install of different linux versions based if they have been installed before (reinstall is ok for users, first install is not), and installquirks like if we detect odd hardware, we add install options to redhat installer so it can install anyhow (for instance hp dc7800 who needs pci=nommconf as

booting on a dos software
Hi! I've got a USB key with several tools (small linux, memtest86+) booting via syslinux. But now I have to add powermax.exe (a MSDOS tool to test Maxtor disks) on this key. As I've always been on Unix/Linux system, I don't know what to do to run powermax.exe from syslinux. I've made a boot floppy disk and tried to copy everything on my usb key and put the command.com in kernel

USB question
The BIOS on my laptop does not support booting from USB. I would like to be able to have my Windows XP on a partition on a USB disk drive and be able to run from the USB disk using perhaps a CD or floppy to bootstrap the system. My questions: 1). Is there a way to use syslinux and friends to do this? 2). If not, is there some other boot loader that may work? 3). Is there any hope at all?

Hello! I like to PXE boot the 'Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics' tool. I can create a harddisk image with the linux download package. Drive use in wine
I'm running Wine release 20011004 and have created the floppy and CDs drives for my floppy, CD and CDRW. I am automounting the devices. 1. I've noticed that if I don't have a floppy or CD in the drive wine ignores it and even if I insert a disk later the app (notepad) never sees it. 2. I have two CDs, one a Creative DVD and the other a Plextor CDRW, and I've created the

Win32 syslinux needs to support mount points, disk numbers or volume names in addition to drive letters
As you know, the Linux version of syslinux supports mount points. But for the Win32 version, it only supports drive letters as in: syslinux ?ma e: However, drive letters are not always available, such as drives mounted to NTFS folders. In order to install syslinux to these drives, future release of syslinux should support using mount points as the drive spec; or alternatively, support disk
