OT Provisioning http-server-enabled devices (Was: Siemens Gigaset DECT base provisioning)
hello,
I would to define and unattended process to configure devices which are
http-server-enabled, use DHCP but do not use TFTP-DCHP to configure
themselves during boot.
Has anyone worked on such subject ?
I was thinking of something like :
populating configuration file from device web pages (rendering this as
generic and flexible as possible)
writing a script which reads this file and set

PXE client does not honor "hostname" parameter passed by DHCP server
Hello all,
I would like to seek advise on the following; I have configured linux
NFSroot images for a bunch of servers and am able to boot and run
stuff happily; one nuance that bothers me is that, for instance, my
Fedora6 (x64) (kernel 2.6.22), (and noticed also in some other distros
- Fedora8, Ubuntu710), the client boots but DOES NOT seem to pick up
the hostname I pass it through the DCHP

Setting up Polycom IP 500 with *
I am in the process of setting up an * system using Polycom IP 500's.
I don't want to spend time setting a ftp server for application and
configuration files at the moment, just want to use the web interface
to the Polycoms. DCHP works OK and IP is obtained correctly.
Polycom fails to load .cfg file and holts. I have read the 143 page
admin user guide a couple of times...and I missing

Polycom IP 600 DHCP problem
I've got a Polycom IP 600 that doesn't want to DHCP. It DHCPDISCOVERs,
there's a DHCPOFFER, it DHCPREQUESTs and a DCHPACK is returned, but 3
seconds later it repeats the process and never boots. The phone works fine
with a static IP, and the DCHP setup works ok for an IP 500. I updated to
bootrom 2.6.2 and sip firmware 1.5.2 which didn't help. Any suggestions?

When to use WINS server in a home network?
Hi. All, I've been reading the docs but I'm not too sure when I should run a WINS server.
Just to confirm, I only need a WINS server if I have more than one workgroup? or more than one subnet?
Otherwise the DNS server should be sufficient, right? (My router uses static dchp to keep track of hostnames for each machine.)
My home network:
* User-level security
* 3 linux boxes with 2 windows

Macbook DHCP issue.
Hi folks,
A while ago I setup my macbook pro to run TINC to my linux box. It's worked just swell since April. The other day it just stopped working. The connection comes up and everything seems fine but I can't DHCP a correct address.
I followed the old setup instructions that were located here: http://www.tinc-vpn.org/examples/macbook-install/ They seem to be gone now.
When I try and

Syslinux Digest, Vol 116, Issue 20
Hi!
We use Windows tftp-servers (so I dont think switching now would be an alternative). But I can try to suggest it.
More specific, vendor id of the mac address, is what I want to be able to "choose" (if match) which bootmenu to display.
Like all broadcom NICs we have would boot the undionly.kpxe "menu!! (I am having some trouble with broadcom (PCI fiber) and iPXE :)

Why do you use this variable as "yes"? :)
Note the lack of './daemon.log.1:33430:'. I have '/var/log/deamon.log'

I used a grep to find the lines with "denied" and posted. If I get the logs
directly from syslog, it usually

finding mac address while in menusystem (com32)
Hi
I have made myself a derivated menusystem based on the complex.c menu that cames with syslinux.
And now I need to read a file, search for my pxebooted netcards mac address, and write some changes back to the same file.
All the writing and reading I hopes will be of no trouble, but how can i find my own mac address? (and IP adress would be nice).
I have searched the list, but I really cannot

share modes
Hello all,
I used to have
share modes = no
on all my application shares as they were accessed for read-only. I
particularly put this on my netlogon share after someone got an exclusive
lock on part of the login script! I find with 2.2.2 that share modes is no
longer allowed and I get smbstatus lock entries for loads of application
stuff which people should be locking. What is the 2.2.2

CentOS 6 dhcpd custom log issues
Hi all,
I've got an issue with C6's dhcpd custom logging that I cannot figure out.
Hopefully someone has an idea, or has seen a similar issue. We have dhcpd
logging to /var/log/messages a custom header (DHCPUSER:) with MAC, IP and
Circuit-ID.
I'll not bore you with the guts, so here's the beginning of that line in
dhcpd.conf:

Adding memdisk or similar when booting linux
Hi
Thanx guys for the help on understanding howto read dmi info!
I now have a custom boot menu for install of different linux versions based if they have been installed before (reinstall is ok for users, first install is not), and installquirks like if we detect odd hardware, we add install options to redhat installer so it can install anyhow (for instance hp dc7800 who needs pci=nommconf as

If it's not much work for you, I'd like to know why. :)

Lingering dhclient issue
I recently reconfigured some CentOS 4.3 systems that were using DHCP
to use static IP addresses. At the same time, the systems were moved
to a new VLAN. Here is the approximate sequence of events that took
place:
1. ifdown eth0
2. edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 with static IP
address
3. wait for network folks to reconfigure switch
4. ifup eth0
I may have
