"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works. I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for. A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode? It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code. I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes,

Re: syslinux] syslinux vs grub
Hello HPA, I think on harddisks, Syslinux is going to lose somehow from other bootloaders like LILO, Grub and others. However, SYSLINUX is still VERY usefull for removable media like diskettes, Zipdisks, USB Flash keys, etc.. I don't know if the fact that Syslinux is now installed using blockmapping is really breaking the usefullness for harddisks. You already mentioned system attribute

content of initramfs CPIO archive
Hi, I am compiling a tiny linux kernel 2.6.10 to be used together with linuxbios. The boot phase will go as follows: linuxbios->tiny linux kernel->initramfs The initramfs shall use dhcp to get it's address and then tftp a full featured kernel. This kernel must be started through kexec. I use a tweaked networkdriver in the kernel and cannot use a normal PXE boot. Which files should I

scope creep "serial console usb"
Can extlinux / syslinux use a usb port for the console? Hi all, I just picked up a energy efficient server with built in 3 hour ups, toshiba Laptop. I've been using serial consoles for monitoring and controlling the boot process, but this laptop has only usb ports. Can Extlinux use ttyUSB0 for the console? I love the extlinux for booting usb devices. Thank you for the hard work,

looping through tasks
Hi, I'm moving (slowly) to R from STATA. I often have need to move through a set of tasks across a series of years. In this case, you can see that I'm mimicking -reshape- in STATA, but I'm less interested in the task than in programming R. library(foreign) mydata<-read.dta("z:\example.dta") for (y in 2000:2002) {

emu86 in klibc
Posting video cards usually require running x86 ROMs. This doesn't work to well when people plug x86 video cards into ia64 and ppc machines. People do this because the x86 versions are half the price of the OpenFirmware ones. Even x86 machines need to run the ROMs for secondary cards. I'm in the process of modifying fbdev to use hotplug events to run these ROMs. What about including emu86

ElTorito from Floppy (was: Re: Can I use...)
a member of the FreeDOS project has transformed Smart Boot Manager into a COM32 module for Syslinux. Might be a bit more usefull than Syslinux -> memdisk -> imagefile -> Smart Boot Manager ( -> 'boot from cd -> cdrom ) I've inserted it into this diskette image: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/beta9sr1/fdos1440.img That's nice to

IPv6 range provisioning question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 A few months back, I tried to use the network scripts to provision an IPv6 range like can be done with IPv4. I was using CentOS 5.2 at the time and was informed that 5.2 was broken in this regard. I have upgraded to CentOS 5.3 now and I am trying to get IPv6 to provision an entire range of IPs, but I am still getting the old behavior and no IPs are

Netboot and PXELINUX
Hi all, I have just been informed that Netboot (http://netboot.sourceforge.net/) can be used to produce PXE boot ROMs. I wonder if anyone has tried running this combination with PXELINUX? This is obviously a really big deal... :) -hpa

Using PXE to Boot CD Images?
Is it possible to chain isolinux and memdisk over pxelinux? If it's possible, I'd like to boot a CD Image over the network. I've been using pxelinux to boot ltsp for years, and recently upgraded to take advantage of memdisk for booting a DOS hd-image. Ideally I'd be able to boot a CD-Image. Thoughts? -- <:3)~ Michael T. PXE Hanging
Hi, I have been trying to boot a PC based terminal using your PXELINUX project and I am having a problem. The Terminal (a Netier NetXpress XL2000) has a m-systems Disk-On-Chip 2000 flash memory module which is normally used to boot a cut-down version of WinNT. I work in a repair department where we often have to open up these terminals and temporarily install a hard-drive to reflash the

CentOS Cluter on SunFire X4100s
Greetings! Just joined the list, after looking at the mail archives and such. I have a few SunFire X4100s on the way, and I was wondering if anyone here has ever ran CentOS in a cluster environment? (I'm looking in Oscar's general direction.)

Multi-NIC network boot floppy+cd+hd+com with PXE and NBI support: does interest?
Hi! I'm preparing what should be a general "network boot" solution for the ones that needs to do network boot on PC without BIOS support / ROM chips. It supports both PXE (like pxelinux.0) and NBI images. I've prepared a precompiled multi-driver image that can autodetect and handle nearly 30 PCI and ISA NICs. My "remote boot kit" contains the same image in 4

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Sorry for posting this to the list, but Paolo Salvan's mailbox is full and keeps rejecting my email to him. This may be of interest to the list anyway, so I don't feel too bad... :P Paolo, I have just taken a look through the readme and saw that you decided to exclude the tg3 driver. Given that some of the most common servers in
