Dell machine boots a Windows formatted FAT16 USB drive not a Ubuntu formatted FAT16 drive.
Hi All, First post and hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction for this problem. I did a bit of googling and found some hints but nothing concrete. We are using Syslinux and a FAT32 USB thumb drive (single partition) to boot a customized Debian OS which works very well with newer motherboards. However we have a few older Dell machines that simply hangs when trying to boot

"Vixen" HVM shim package available in virt-xen-testing
To install the package: yum --enablerepo=virt-xen-VV-testing xen-vixen Where VV is '44', '46', or '48', depending on which version you're using. (It's the same package for all versions.) This will install the xen-vixen "shim" binary, as well as the pvshim-converter script. See XSA-254 [1] for detailed information about who should use it, why, and

trying to recover an audio CD...
I'm trying to recover data from an audio cd. it is a recording of a live session, made on a professional cd recorder, on the fly. apparently, instead of stopping it and fixating the disc, someone turned off the power. oops. I know that wodim will fixate a disk as long as it was otherwise properly terminated (I've done it more than once), but this one it won't fixate. depending on

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server :( As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with the same transfer

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like in Windows. So I

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an solution yet :( Some new info (see bottom of email for history): 1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer problem. 2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server, didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem. 3. I have changed the NIC cards

Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba 2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP. I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However, my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

vfat / ftruncate problem
I recently added a 60Gig HD to my little linux server at home with the intention of sharing it via Samba to all my PCs which run Windows 98SE. I really want to use vfat file system on it. The server is running Mandrake 8.1, so kernel 2.4.something, and the Samba that came with it. Much to my disappointment I quickly discovered poor performance copying files to it, the copy is like slow to get

Can't Access Win2000 Shared Resources from Linux
Greetings, I'm running Linux Fedora Core 2 with Samba 3.0.3-5 installed. In Gnome, when I click Computer->Network->Windows Network->Workgroup I can see the Windows boxes on my network (2 Win98SE + 1 Win2000 Workstation). I can access everything on the 2 Win98SE boxes. I can print from Linux to a shared printer on one of the Win98SE boxes. When I click on the icon for the Win2000

Syslinux 3.70 - BSS DOS boot says: "Could not find kernel Image: linux".
Hello, I'm trying to create and boot a Win98SE-DOS OS through Hard Disk emulation. My src files are from a Win98SE 1440K floppy image file, with a x86 boot sector (dl'd from the net - I have no floppy drive and a slow net link 3.2KB). I don't know what to put into the partition boot record of my image and how to load dos.bss properly (the docs explain for floppy images not for HD

''resource or device no longer available' error with large files
Hi. I have a base 10 hub, a SAMBA 2.2.6 server on a p200mmx, and a win98se box. Everything in DIAGNOSTICS.txt checks out fine, and everything seems to work ok until i try to send an iso image across. That is when smbd crashes (about halfway/300M), and win gives the error 'cannot copy or replace <filename>: the resource or device is no longer available. That is the exact error

incomplete smbmount smbfs Win98SE iso8859-1 translation in kernel 2.4.18
I'm getting only partial iso8859-1 translation from an smbfs mount from my Win98SE machine. The smbfs mounted file system shows most lower-case accented characters fine; but, it substitutes underscores for most of the upper-case accented characters (and a few lower-case ones too): # uname -a Linux elm 2.4.18-8.1mdkian3 #7 Sat Aug 17 15:19:44 EDT 2002 i686 unknown (Mandrake 8.2 Linux with all

"Ghost" print job.
Hi all, I'm currentlly using samba-2.2.2 together with LPRng-3.7.4, and have a problem with a printjob that woun't go away. I use samba for a small file/printserver for 10 people using win98se clients, and it's been working very nicely. As I upgraded from samba-2.0.6, I sent out a testpage from one of the win98se clients to the two printers (hpljet 6L, Epson stylus photo 750) we have
