PXELINUX LocalBoot 0 fail; hunting for bug
Recently, I decided to pull out a new model laptop for testing related
to my job at work. Dell Latitiude E6400, BIOS A14. Normally I have
it set to boot CD, USB, Net, then HDD and noticed that with
PXELINUX-4.02 and 'LOCALBOOT 0', it hung on me before leaving the PXE
stack. I then tried 3.86 and it worked. 4.00 and 4.01 both hung when
I tested them as well. Changing to 'LOCALBOOT

Dell OptiPlex 790 PXELINUX localboot reboot loop
Our site has many Dell OptiPlex 790s, all of which are unable to use the 'localboot' PXELINUX option as they either hang at 'Booting from local disk...' or immediately reboot depending on which SYSLINUX version is used. Many people have suggested using chain.c32 to chain load the local disk as a workaround, but this causes problems with Windows 7 BitLocker as it detects the chain

pxelinux localboot enhancement
pxelinux, when given a localboot=... option, will try to boot next bios
device itself.
The problem is it takes next BIOS device by BIOS order of enumeration.
That has no connection with the boot order defined in BIOS. Since a user
cannot control BIOS enumeration but can control the boot order, there is
no way one can force a desired next device for local boot with pxelinux.
In general, you

pxelinux localboot
Just download Syslinux 1.75 and set it up on my SuSE 7.3 box with latest ISC
3.x DHCP release. I am using the SuSE supplied in.tftp, and an IBM PC client
with a IBM EtherJet (actually an Intel Pro 100) nic. Everything was actually
quite straight forward to setup, and I got PXELinux working without too much
trouble.
I am booting several different DOS images without problem, and think my

pxelinux with localboot + etherboot
Hi,
[I sent this mail again because my previous mail was rejected by ML
for some reason]
This topic is originally from etherboot ML.
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
pxelinux returns to PXE with localboot return code but
etherboot doesn't check it.
I was trying to change

pxelinux with localboot and etherboot
Hi,
(this is a topic from etherboot ML).
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
I was trying to change etherboot side but it was not easy to me.
So I simply replaced pxelinux local_boot: with isolinux's one
with little modification.
It may be better that pxelinux.cfg also allows to

LocalBoot problem under PXELinux
Hi
LocalBoot have unpredictable behaviour. I have tried 0, 0x80 and -1 on different machines. Some work good, some hang, some reset and some repoen the menu. I also uses chain.c32 but it had the same problem. I checked 3COM MBA menu mba.pxe and it works good on all machines. Is there any workaround?

Problems with PXELINUX falling through to localboot on a HP Proliant DL385
I'm having problems with PXELINUX passing through to a "localboot" on a
HP Proliant DL385. I'm working with 3.73.
If I configure PXELINUX to directly "localboot", everything works. If
I configure PXELINUX to use menu.c32 or anything like that, a subsequent
localboot fails. I see the expected "PXE ROM exiting" message but the
next device doesn't

PXELINUX LOCALBOOT 0 hang on Dell Optiplex 990
I have been using PXELINUX, with "LOCALBOOT 0" when wanting to boot
from disk, for many years. Now on new Dell Optiplex 990 machines,
PXE boot with "LOCALBOOT 0" hangs after message
Booting from local disk...
without the expected "Exiting PXE" message. I tried "LOCALBOOT -1" and
some other values also, none seemed to work. I tested SYSLINUX 4.04.

localboot not working in PXELINUX 2.02
Hello,
We're using the PXELINUX to boot remote kickstart and Linux rescue
images. Recently we got some new hardware (Compaq DL360) which
required me to upgrade from PXELINNUX 1.75 to 2.02. Everything works
fine on the new hardware, but the "localboot 0" option now just hangs
on some of our older boxes.
Specifically, our "Tyan Thunder 2510" motherboards with integrated

PXE floppy, PXELINUX and LOCALBOOT
Hi!
A friend of mine has tried a PXE floppy (build from the new etherboot
5.3.12) to load PXELINUX.0; a menu voice of the pxelinux.cfg use the
LOCALBOOT statement.
Selecting this statement, the PC retry to boot from the floppy... is
this normal?
The user expected that LOCALBOOT would have tried the NEXT boot device
(ie CDROM or HD), not the FIRST boot device (the floppy)...

localboot in pxelinux recurses back into pxelinux then eventually crashes
Hi all,
My server is IBM x3850 X5 and use Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v5.2.4 stack.
When I choose localboot to boot from the harddisk, the system willnot
boot up then still trying to boot from PXE. Several times later the
PXE boot procedure is crashed with words as I attached.
Does anyone have any good idea?
Thanks very much.

pxelinux localboot 0 fails?
I have a pxelinux I'm working with and I want the default option
to be to boot off the local mbr. According to the docs, if I
specify localboot 0, it should return to the BIOS and continue to
the next device. When I do this, though, the pxe agent exists
(PXE-M0F), but the BIOS never continues on.
Is this a BIOS issue? If so, has anyone else figured out a way to
work around it?

IBA 4.x -> broken localboot in pxelinux
As subject says: With Intel PXE stack version 4.x (stack identifies itself
in BIOS as IBA 4.0.x or 4.1.x), pxelinux' localboot option hangs instead
of going to BIOS. This does not happen with older PXE stack.
I have a feeling that the this broke somewhere in version 2.x - I
*believe* 1.75 PXELINUX works fine - but haven't had a chance to try
again.

pxelinux v2.00 & localboot hanging
Is there a solution to pxelinux v2.00 hanging with 'localboot 0' ?
I haven't had a good time with v1.76 due to the UNDI corruption bug.
I just subscribed and I've searched the archives up to 12/5.

pxelinux 3.09 LOCALBOOT does not work (v3.07 does)
Hi,
when trying to boot from local disk with PXELINUX v 3.09, the
systems just beeps and hangs. The last message appearing on the
screen is "Booting from local disk..."
Running PXELINUX v 3.07 works for me (but I'd like to use v.3.09
because of the increased max command line size.
The BIOS boot priority configuration is PXE/Disk/Disabled.

PXELINUX + LOCALBOOT disables network within operating system
Hi,
I am using syslinux-3.85 (and before till 3.72) and I have seen a peculiar problem on a couple of machines that I have in my lab.
The problem is that if the machine boots onto PXE, and then does a "LOCALBOOT 0", the networking component of the OS stops working !!!
If I skip PXE boot, and just let the OS boot, the OS's networking is working fine.
The problem is seen of all the

syslinux: localboot error
Hello all,
I'm booting a USB stick (DOS formatted, one 1GB partition) and I'd
like to offer the choice of either continue booting from the USB stick,
or booting from the installed hard disk (Linux ext3). I've asked this
question here previously and Quinn replied saying I should use the
'localboot -1' option which would pass boot to the next device. And so
I did. The BIOS
