unloading memdisk
Hi Peter, I'm using isolinux and memdisk to create a multiboot rescue cd for personal use as described on Bart's page (www.nu2.nu). One boot item is to boot DOS 7.1 from Win98SE with a lot of other staff for emergencies. This DOS bootimage puts all necessary stuff into it's own ramdisk (XMSDSK). Some progs on the ramdisk needs access to floppy drive A: and unfortunately I've no

Pxelinux/memdisk with XP "MS-DOS" boot disk
I'm trying to use this universal DOS TCP/IP boot disk available here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~bdriver/bootdisk/ It requires an MS-DOS formatted disk created by Windows XP. It works great as a floppy but doesn't boot at all with memdisk. The problem can be simplified down to just the XP boot disk. If you make an MS-DOS startup disk with XP on a floppy, dd the floppy to an image

retrieve drive letter of USB Media.
Does SYSLINUX have any idea which DOS driveletter would be assigned to the disk it is booting from? At www.veder.com someone is trying to build a USB flash drive. However, FreeDOS does not seem to boot correctly from it (bootsector trouble maybe, or kernel itself is confusing drives), thus we're thinking of using Syslinux + Memdisk + bootimage, but somehow we want to be able to also access the

Is it possible to boot a CD-Image of a bootable CD (no disk emu) via pxe
Hello Peter, is it possible to boot a CD-Image of a bootable CD (no disk emu) via pxe. I've build up the infrastructure to boot normal floppy images via PXE (under W2K and/or Netware). I have a ISO image of the bootable CD (1 tack TAO eltorinto with an a single boot sect -> bootimage is 2kB, ISO image about 600 MB) I suspect that a combination of MEMDISK and PXELINUX with activated UNDI

How to unload memdisk within DOS?
Hi SysLinux, i'm using pxelinux.0 and memdisk to successfully boot dos on my PXE capable workstation. But aber the DOS boot I need to get access to Drive A: again. My DOS bootimage is putting all necessary stuff into it's own RAMdisk. How can I disable memdisk, so that it releases drive A: (does not necessarily free the allocated memory for it's RAMdisk ..) with kind regards / mit

KEEPPXE/DOS
First off I love syslinux and it has worked flawless for us on the unix side of the realm. We're trying to use our ghost images within a dos netboot using syslinux. Unfortunatly we can only pass DHCP ip's to hosts that exhibit a vendor code 'like windows/pxe/and other os's do". Unfortunatly DOS does not, so we cannot request a second IP after the pxe process to map samba

Using PXE to Boot CD Images?
Is it possible to chain isolinux and memdisk over pxelinux? If it's possible, I'd like to boot a CD Image over the network. I've been using pxelinux to boot ltsp for years, and recently upgraded to take advantage of memdisk for booting a DOS hd-image. Ideally I'd be able to boot a CD-Image. Thoughts? -- <:3)~ Michael T. [LLVMdev] java front-end
Hi Minas, Thanks! I wasn't aware that VMKit had the ability to generate llvm code from .class / .jar files - I thought all of its code-generation capabilities were very closely tied to the VM itself. I'll look into this. The motivation behind this project is to be able to get both the small size and fast startup times of Avian, along with the speed of llvm-generated code. Currently,

Creating a DVD with bootable ISOs
Hi All, My question is: Is it possible to make a DVD-R/DVD+R with a boot menu so that you could select a particular bootable ISO on the DVD, and boot into that distro? Asked another way, is it possible to boot an ISO burned as an ISO9660 file on CD or DVD media? If it is, how can this be accomplished? TIA, Andrew.

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre14 released, release candidate
This release includes Murali's menu positioning patch; it is otherwise identical to 2.09-pre13. I will release this as 2.09 on Sunday unless I hear objections. Note that I've effectively been out of the loop, moving houses, for almost a month, so if there is something I'm forgetting please tell me... -hpa

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07 release: Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is

PXE booting 2.88MB floppy
Hi, I'm sorry to bring this up again but I can't quit get this too work. I'm trying to build a 2.88 floppy image so that I can use PXE to load Ghost. I'm useing the following to get a copy of the bootsector: dd if=/dev/fd0 of=bootblock bs=512 count=1 Then I build the image file with: mformat -C -t 160 -s 18 -h 2 -B bootblock x: Then use mcopy to put the required

pxelinux and bar
Has anyone been able to boot a bartpe image successfully using pxelinux or does anyone know if this is impossible? For those who don't know, bartpe is a legitimate way to make a trimmed down installation of Windows XP or Server 2003 using your installation media. For more information on bartpe see: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder Basically the pebuilder gathers the minimum files needed to

Help Memdisk + Pxelinux hangs
Hello, I am a *nix newbie I am trying to boot a DOS boot disk using PXE (to Ghost on windows images). We have an existing PXE server which successfully serves out PXElinux and Fedora builds based on that but my floppy disk image with memdisk isn't working I have tried a few different floppy images which people have posted as ones that work for them but I doubt the disk is the problem

What happened to the RescueCD?
Hey folks - So what happened to the RescueCD ISO?... i'm not finding it under the ...centos/4.4/isos/ dir, as i believe it generally has been previously. At my office, we have a local mirror, and i've always just burned the RescueCD ISO and booted with that. At the prompt i supply "linux askmethod" and then later reference our local mirror to do an install or upgrade. The

[LLVMdev] java front-end
Hi, I'm trying to use the Java front-end (which, based on svn commits, appears to be three-years-dead), and I'm running into some build errors. In that time did llvm change from building with exception handling and rtti to building without? I remember reading somewhere that llvm code should use dyn_cast instead of dynamic_cast. Do these need to be changed here? A little background:

Patch mboot.c with Symbols/segments loader for multiboot ELF kernels
The program segments loaded presently in mboot.c only consists of a subset of sections described by the ELF Section Header Table (SHT) in the ELF kernel binary. Segments with useful information often needed for debugging purposes (symbol tables, string tables, etc.) aren't usually present in the program segments and hence not loaded above. Some kernels use this debugging information to

Multiboot with isolinux
I used to use multiple syslinux floppy images to implement what I call CD-ROM-multiboot (EL Torito supports up to 64 bootable images, Award BIOS 8 images, if not wrey old). Now that floppies are getting too small, I find that I must find a workaround for hard coded isolinux directory name in isolinux. Not a big deal, but there might be also others who would like to have multiboot feature. --
