Unable to mount root fs
Hey all, I'am able to use pxelinux to successfully boot a particular kernel and image on various IBM PC's ex. 6287-41U and 6591-34U. However, using the same setup (ie. dhcp, tftp, pxelinux.0, pxelinux.cfg, networkcard, bootrom, ram memory) on an IBM 6282-73U my kernel and image decompress fine but I'am getting a... Hi all, I'm setting up a diskless linux system using pxelinux. I have reached the point where the kernel boots and init starts. However, I'am getting this message: INIT: version 2.78 booting can't create lock file /etc/mtab~14: Read-only file system (use -n flag to override) INIT: Entering runlevel: 2 INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: no more

password changes with ctrl-alt-del
Currently I'am using samba for file sharing. My smb.conf file is basically setup as default with a few minor changes. Therefore, my samba server is not part of a domain. Right now users can map the samba shares with windows XP... With this type of setup is it possible for them to change there smbpasswd using ctrl-alt-del? If so any examples or hints on how to set this up would be great.

pxelinux
Hello H. Peter, we use pxelinux to start linux on desktop pcs. Now we have a problem with the interaction of dhcp. If the ip address is not fix, we cannot use the ip address as name for the configfile. A better solution would be, first to check for the mac and then for the ip address. Is it possible? TIA, Tobias

password change using XP
I see on the list that it is possible to change the samba password using ctrl-alt-del in windows. It looks to me that there are two senarios where this can take place. 1) when windows box and samba server is a domain member or PDC 2) and/or encrytion is turned off on the windows box and possibly no domain membership at all. This what I have been trying to do. No domains at all. Where XP has

smbldap-populate issues?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, I appear to have some issues with smbldap-populate, this used to work fine but I've recently upgraded the dev box from RH8.0 to Fedora Core 1, I assume it's related but I'm not sure exactly how... As you can see the first ou creates work, so it must at least be binding to the ldap server, but it seems to have a problem with the

ramdisk_size=9216 - but why?
All, My name is William Russell and I am setting up a PXE Boot server on RHEL6 to server RHEL5 & 6 network installations. I'm just trying to document and optimize my setup which I moved from a RHEL5 server. I noticed that I have "ramdisk_size=9216", but after a fruitless search online, I still don't understand why we chose 9MB - it seems so random. Many others have used

opendir(somedir/somefile): Not enough space -- why?
I am attempting to use rsync to copy a large filesystem from an HP-UX server to a Linux server with more than enough filespace. This operation fails. A small directory from the same HP-UX server can be transfered just as expected. The HP-UX server is the source. It has 1Gb RAM - the output of bdf for the volume the source files is on is: Filesystem kbytes used avail %used Mounted

how to search a list that contains multiple dissimilar vectors?
Dear All, This is a simple question, but I'm stumped about the simplest way to search a list object such as the following: This randomish snippet: n <- c(round(runif(round(runif(1,1,10),0),1,10),0)) alist <- new("list") for (i in seq_along(n)) { alist[[i]] <- c(round(runif(round(runif(1,1,10),0),1,10),0)) } names(alist) <- sample(letters[1:length(n)]) rm(n);c(alist)

DISPLAYING TABLE in file
Hi, I wish to NEATLY store, and later display one table per file (similar to capabilities of write.table()). BUT BY NEATLY I MEAN: 1. Column Headings right aligned with data values. 2. Decimal points line-up per column. 3. Data values padded trailing zeros per column (if not integers). 4. "Tricky" formats such as certain characters/dates possibly chosen by the user? bla bla bla I do

PXE question
I was wondering, where is the format and options of files like /usr/share/system-config-netboot/pxelinux.cfg/default from system-config-netboot-cmd described? There are plenty of PXE tutorials with examples out there, but nothing that looks like actual documentation.

A HowTo guide?
I've very new to this... what I want to achieve, is to have my clients network boot - and then be presented with a menu, allowing them *well, me* to choose what to do. Maybe, boot from the main hard disk, or boot a disk image from a samba share, or maybe even boot a CD image, instead of having the actual CD in the drive. Also, I would want to be able to change this menu, without actually

Isolinux 4.02
I am running isolinux 4.02 and ramdisk_size does not seem to have an effect on the ramdisk size. No matter what I set it to in the isolinux.cfg file it seems the limit is 32768.
