Thanks Peter
Dear Peter, first: thanks for the very prompt reply, I am not sure I would like to download 400+ meg file on my 56k modem though. Can that CD be purchased on line? Maybe some background here is needed: I am using SuSE Linux 6.4 and dual booting with windows 95 using LILO. I have found SuSE to be the easiest to mod so I would rather work with those files. There are quite large

isolinux cd hangs at booting kernel
I've created a bootable cd with isolinux but it can't load the kernel. It detects everything fine, decompresses the initrd, loads and decompresses the kernel and then tries to boot the kernel. But after that the computer hangs. Here's the screen dump: ISOLINUX 1.73 2002-05-26 Copyright (C) 1994-2002 H. Peter Anvin isolinux: Starting up, DL = 9F isolinux: Loaded spec packet OK,

Question Fe and BE device
Hello, I try to install some applications on XEN. These applications have a automated install and are based on SLES10SP3. During the installation the device searches for /dev/sr0. Which fails in the xen enviroment. I now make a work around with booting a rescue system and mounting /dev/hdc and so on. But it should not be that difficult to install something into XEN. Can Somebody shed some

Inquiry:Problem in mounting external cdrom
Dear All I tried to mount an external cdrom on my CentOS 5 server but un-successful . I attached the device to my USB port and then the followings have been added to my /dev folder : "cdrom -> scd0 cdrom-sr0 -> scd0 cdrw -> scd0 cdrw-sr0 -> scd0 cdwriter -> scd0 cdwriter-sr0 -> scd0" To this end , I tried to mount it as the followings (but it didn't get through) :

Looking for info
Dear All, This may at first seem a bit odd but I am hopping to find some info that I feel would help the Linux community as a whole. With so many different flavours of Linux and with each distribution doing their own thing there doesn't seem to be any easy way to create a Linux install on a new virgin PC without committing oneself to a "Brand Name" (Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrake

sha256sum a dvd
CentOS-6.9 I am trying to verify a locally created dvd. I am using sha256sum in this fashion: sha256sum /dev/sr0 Which gave this result: sha256sum: /dev/sr0: Input/output error So I tried this: sha256sum /dev/cdrom Which, after some time, also produces: sha256sum: /dev/cdrom: Input/output error What does this mean and how do I fix it? -- *** e-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel

Question re: CentOS-6.0, KVM, and /dev/sr0
I am experimenting with KVM and I wish to create a virtual machine image in a logical volume. I can create the new lv without problem but when I go to format its file system then I get these warnings: Warning: WARNING: the kernel failed to re-read the partition table on /dev/sda (Device or resource busy). As a result, it may not reflect all of your changes until after reboot. Warning: Unable to

btrfs device scan
I have a couple computers running 2.6.38 (Ubuntu Natty 2.6.38-8-generic), and on both of them "btrfs device scan" comes back with nothing other than "failed to read /dev/sr0" One computer has a btrfs RAID-1 volume, and the other has two separate btrfs filesystems. The results are the same whether the filesystems are mounted or not. Why is "btrfs device scan" not

Bug#595531: xen-utils-common: boot="d" does not boot from CD (documentation issue?)
Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.0.0-1 Severity: normal This is an offshoot of Bug#588888, but is really a separate issue. It appears that with hvmloader, the disk device names presented to the vm must by from a specific set that hvmloader knows how to emulate. Names like hd[a-c] and sd[a-c] work, but sr0 does not. While this makes sense, when you think about what hvmloader is doing, it is

problems with burning i386 centos 6 dvd
Hey guys, Thanks a lot for the CentOS 6 distro. I am having trouble burning the i386 dvds. I tried on a RHEL 6 deskop and also a CentOS 5 laptop. The command I am running on both systems is this: growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=4 -Z /dev/sr0=/home/gsgatlin/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD.iso The error I am seeing is: :-( /dev/sr0: 2295104 blocks are free, 2297586 to be written!

Problem with automatic mounting of disc drive (Ubuntu 11.10)
Hi! First of all, WINE is great! There is only one little inconvenience for me: I am using WINE 1.2 under Ubuntu 11.10. It automatically mounts CDs and DVDs at /media/(disc name). So whenever I insert a new disc, I have to change the configuration of WINE which is a bit annoying. I could not find any help via Google. On ubuntuforum.org I was told to point WINE to the device itself (/dev/sr0)

mounting CDROM without mapaping UC to LC
Hi! this is surely a newbie question, so I should know the answer, but I'm fighting with mounting a CD such that filenames are NOT mapped to lowercase (I need to use its on-board tools for accessing files on it while mounted on Centos 6.5, and those tools assume uppercawse, since they assume the entire world runs Windoze.) but despite my best efforts, it keeps being mounted with UC-LC

Re: isolinux doesn't load kernel
Hello ! I have only 2 questions concerning my problem : 1) is there any limitation on the size of the kernel with isolinux ? (mine is 1230215 bytes. perhaps it's too big ?) 2) Is isolinux compatible with the use of the -z option of mkisofs, (transparent iso compression) even if the isolinux directory is not concerned by the compression ? That's all. sylvain

How to burn a CD using libvirt?
Hi, My first e-mail... my apologies if this is not the appropriate e-mail list. My goal is to *write* from the guest OS to a CD or DVD reader/writer on my host system. Currently, the write operation is failing. I believe it is because the virtual CD-ROM device is set to be "readonly". Is it possible to write to a QEMU CDROM device and, if so, how? (The host machine's CD-ROM
