Memdisk and USB Floppy
I just wanted to chime in and mention that I'm running into the problem
with getting a "Non-system disk..." error on a system using a USB floppy
when the floppy is not attached when I try to boot the system over the
network using memdisk to boot a floppy image. Its actually fairly
important to be able to do this, as the architecture of the hardware
that I'm working with utilizes

PXELINUX v. bpbatch
What is the difference between PXELINUX and bpbatch ?
AFAICT, bpbatch doe not require a TFTP server which supports the
'tsize' option. So in the absence of such a server, I may need to
explore bpbatch... It seems that bpbatch can be used to remotely boot
DOS. Can PXELINUX also do this?

Bootloader chaining
I've been trying to make up for a mismatch in functionality between bpbatch
and pxelinux by trying to use both depending what I'm trying to do by chain
booting the two. I'm able to chain boot in either direction, either
pxelinux then bpbatch or bpbatch then pxelinux, but once I've done this,
and boot either Linux or DOS, I find the adapter I used to network boot is
not detected by

Disk preparation
I'm trying to move off of bpbatch and on to pxelinux (bpbatch doesn't boot
the installation kernels for SuSE 8.1 and SLES 8--they appear to be too
big). This has been a pretty easy transition, except for the fact that I'm
using bpbatch to install Windows 2000 over the network as well as Linux.
For Windows 2000 I use a DOS boot diskette with network drivers and run the

EVERYONE USING DOVECOT PLEASE SIGN: Thanks, Administrators of Dovecot!
With the release of dovecot 2.0, the community of the Dovecot mailling
list, and us at Shelton Computers, would sincerely like to thank the
developers of Dovecot. For, if it were not for you, we would be stuck
with Courier and would not have the impressive features of Sieve, as
opposed to the unmanageable scripts, by end users, of maildrop.

many thanks to 'lilo'
As some of you may have heard, Rob Levin, known as 'lilo' on IRC, died
today after being hit by a car a few days ago.
On behalf of the Samba community I'd like to express our sorrow at
losing lilo, and our gratitude to him for providing such fantastic
service to the free software community over the years.

Problem with syslinux booting via network in floppy image
Hi as described on the syslinux pxe webpage:
A multi-hardware boot floppy is included with Windows
Server 2000 and 2003. A company called Argon Technology
used to offer a free-as-in-beer updated version, but is
seems to have gone fully commercial. This floppy (which can
also be burned to a CD using El Torito in floppy-emulation
mode), is known to work with PXELINUX 2.03 or later only

list manipulation
Hi R users!
Does anyone know command similar to cbind for adding a column to a object of
the list. For example on this list:
> c1
$`1`
x11 x22
1 1 1
2 1 2
3 1 3
4 1 4
5 1 5
$`2`
x11 x22
6 2 6
7 2 7
8 2 8
9 2 9
10 2 10
11 2 11
i would like to add column, named random created with - runif(5)-, to the
first object in order to obtain something like this:
> c1
$`1`
x11 x22 random
1 1 1

Test for equality of coefficients in multivariate multipleregression
Dear Berwin,
Simply stacking the problems and treating the resulting observations as
independent will give you the correct coefficients, but incorrect
coefficient variances and artificially zero covariances.
The approach that I suggested originally -- testing a linear hypothesis
using the coefficient estimates and covariances from the multivariate linear
model -- seems simple enough. For

long character string problem
Hi All
I am having 2 very long character strings (550chars) and I want to put them as
expressions together with c(). The problem is that I also get these
double-quotes, as seen below in 'fct'. How can I remove these double-quotes? I
tried as.name() but it did not work (because of size?). These are creating
trouble with subsequent programs, which I tested with strings that for some

Hard disk image to use with Memdisk
Hallo
I would like to have an image of about 8Mb to boot with ISOLINUX and
MEMDISK. I am not able to create an image complete of the MBR, as MEMDISK
requires. I think I should emulate an 8Mb disk in memory or on a file, but I
am able to do so only for a 'single partition'. Could you please suggest me
a way to obtain the image? I can use Linux or Windows tools, it does not
matter.

Dear R list,
I have the following data:

Box Tidwell / Error Message
Dear R-Users,
I used the box.tidwell () function of the car Package.
When I used the following formula:

ggplot2: mixing colour and linetype in geom_line
Hi all,
I try to represent a multiple curve graphic where the x-axis is the
temperature and the different y-axes are the different X (X22,X43,X44...)
some X corresponds to the same molecule (22 and 44 are for CO2 for instance)
so I use the same colour for them.
I wanna mix the linetype with the colour to be able to visually see the
difference between X43 and X45
The best I have done up to now

horizontal direct product
II am translating some gauss code into R, and gauss has a matrix
product function called the horizontal direct product (*~), which is
some sort of variant on the Kronecker product.
For example if x is 2x2 and y is 2x2
the horizontal direct product, z, of x and y is defined (in the Gauss
manual) as:
row 1 = x11*y11 x11*y12 x12*y11 x12*y12
row 2 = x21*y21 x21*y22 x22*y21 x22*y22

stepwise regression
Dear all,
I have encountered a problem when perform stepwise regression.
The dataset have more 9 independent variables, but 7 observation.
In R, before performing stepwise, a lm object should be given.
fm <- lm(y ~ X1 + X2 + X3 + X11 + X22 + X33 + X12 + X13 + X23)
However, summary(fm) will give:
Residual standard error: NaN on 0 degrees of freedom
Multiple R-Squared: 1, Adjusted

Wine has improved a lot!
I hope I'm not wasting bandwidth with this, but I just had to compliment
the developers of Wine for the work that's been done. Wine has gotten
to the point now where just about anything I've thrown at it works
either out of the box, or with minimal tweaking.
I remember when it used to be really difficult or nearly impossible to
get many applications to run with Wine, but now the

isolinux - memdisk - thanks!
Hi Peter,
You did a great job on the isolinux and memdisk tools..
I can know, I've also written a CD-Rom disk emulator, only it's slow (read
from the CD) uses 22KB conventional memory (mainly cache) and the emulated
floppy image cannot be written to. http://www.nu2.nu/diskemu/
You're memdisk is fast, small conventional memory footprint and the emulated
drive is writeable, very,

Thank you wine
Thank you Wine. I just wanted you to express my gratitude.
Even if the installation of my most desired software is still a pain in the neck, I am working with the software for the first time on Linux on a productive stage, just thinking how it is great that my only problems are the "save target as.." not appearing and the cursor displaced when highlighting things.
Thank you! I'm so
