vmware problem took down X on host?
I run VMWare server 1.07 on Centos 5. Last night I left a Windows 2000
virtual machine doing a ClamWin scan of drive M: when I went to bed around
midnight. Drive M: is actually a volume on the Centos 5 host, mounted via
Samba. It has about 40Gb of photos on it, plus a few other things. I had
the VM up visible in the VMWare Server Console running under KDE on display

Newbie RIS Replacement
Doing a lot of RTFM lately about PXE. I have done xCAT builds but want
to take the voodo out of the process so I can control and understand the
whole system. I am new to PXE technology and so consider me ignorant.
The current server is a MS RIS server and I am attempting to migrate our
facility to use Linux / PXE instead.
First stage: take existing DOS bootnet floppy and convert to boot from

Berkeley DB with Dovecot
I have a friend who is preparing to set up a small Postfix/Dovecot mail
system. There are only approximately 25 users. He wants to use Berkeley
DB in a similar fashion to the way Postfix does. I told him I do not
believe Dovecot supports that. I could not find any documentation
relating to it.
1) Does Dovecot support Berkeley DB?
2) Are their any plans to incorporate that feature into Dovecot?

RedHat kickstart with PXELINUX
We are attempting to setup an automated system to build some Linux
systems. We have utilised the PXELINUX bootloader after encountering
the PXE 512Kb limit with bootp.
We now have another issue which you may have already run into. In the
DHCP configuration we specify pxelinux.0 as the bootfile, this works
reasonable well, we call the Redhat vmlinuz and initrd.img files

cisco 7940 firmware upgrade
I have been trying for sometime to upgrade this phone to either sip, or the
latest sccp (at this point I don't care) with no success. It has an sccp
image (don't know the version off the top of my head) that is incompatible
with chan_sccp. When I boot up the phone, it asks the tfpt server for the
.tlv file, then the SEP<mac> file which it receives successfully. It then
asks for

Really annoying XMLRPC problem, can anyone help?
Hi everyone,
I was working on a small program to contact a third party website and
retrieve some classified advertisements. Information must be
transmitted to the website in the form of a struct, and returned as a
struct as well. I have managed to define the structs in question, but I
have run into some really annoying bugs when trying to transmit
information to the website. Whenever I

ext3 and data=journal bug
Greetings all,
I have a question regarding the fsync data corruption bug that was introduced
in 2.4.20 when using data=journal. I have patched the 2.4.20 kernel with the
3 sync patches available from zip.com.au, and I am wondering if with these
patches the "bug" still exists:
sync_fs.patch
sync_fs-fix.patch
sync_fs-fix-2.patch
In addition the following two patches have also

syslinux booting problem with 3Com PXE server
I use 3Com's PXE server to deploy the RedHat Linux network boot disk for
an ftp install. I have done this for RedHat 7.2 and 7.3. I followed
the same procedure I used for the other RedHat boot disks using the
RedHat 8.0 boot disk and syslinux didn't work. Syslinux boots the
system, gets the boot: prompt and dies. The error message is can not
find ramdisk image and then cannot find

I installed tfpt-hpa
Hi...
I''m interested to find out how many people are running tftp-hpa versus
atftpd.
I''m almost a bit surprised in how many people seem to be using
tftp-hpa; for modern Unix systems (including Linux), I would in general
assume atftpd to be a better choice.
If you have tried both and specifically chosen (as opposed to "it was
already installed", etc.) I''d

Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to workafter joining linux toan AD domain
For everyone else's reference, John just gave me a call and issued a challenge to put my money where my (big) mouth is. So i'll be doing some work on the documentation in the next little while, specifically to do with adding Samba member servers to an AD infrastructure. If you have troubleshooting tips you picked up, or suggestions of things that need to be included, please let me know.

moment.

EFI & PXE-booting: very slow TFTP performance on a VMWare test setup
Dear people on the Syslinux Mailinglist,
Are there any known problems with the performance of TFTP in (U)EFI
environments in general or maybe just on VMWare?
Right now I'm running tests on two virtual environments using either
VMWare Workstation 11.1.0 on a Fedora 21 system or VMWare Player 7.1.0
on an Ubuntu 14.10 system. Both virtual systems support PXE booting in
UEFI mode. Both systems

UEFI PXE Difficulties
Im a long time PXE boot fan. I use it for wimbooting windows PE, linux
images via http, and memtest mainly.
Ive got it nicely customised with my own graphics etc.
Then UEFI booting came along. Till now ive been content simply setting
bios's to CSM mode and doing my thing....
Ive had another go at EFI PXE booting and can now get the menus and grahics
from syslinux working, but I cannot get

NOSSO(r) compression
I just downloaded solaris. They have two versions, the split DVD that
comes with two 1.2GB zipped chunks and an exe which is 1.2GB but
uncompresses to the full 2.5+GB. I found some info on them here:
http://www.nosltd.com/nosso.html
Any idea how they achieve such great compression? Looks like they're
using a proprietary algorithm and don't offer any downloads. Also looks

pxelinux and 2.6.9 kernel parameters
I am using RHEL4 with kernel 2.6.9. I can load this on my hardware by
passing the following kernel parameter: memmap=496M at 16M, and it loads up
and runs OK. If I do not use this parameter, I get a kernel panic.
When I try to load the same software onto the same hardware using PXE, I
add the same parameter on the server's
tftpboot/pxelinux/pxelinux.cfg/default file:

Asus A7V600 (3C940 1gb) + Oopsing kernel with PXELINUX
Hi!
We (an astronomical center) are building a small cluster for our
number-crunching. The problem is that we have 12 mobos A7V600 by Asus (for
athlons) - 1 server + 11 diskless nodes. And here comes the trouble...
hardware:
mobo: a7v600
net: 1 gigabit by 3com - 3c940, integrated in mobo
the problem is:
dhcp - works fine
tftp - works fine
pxelinux.0 - downloads fine (I hope)
linux kernel -
