problem booting (Fedora) LiveCD ISO over PXELINUX
This is an issue I've researched quite a bit on bug lists, and looked
in the Syslinux Wiki for a way to do this, but haven't yet found a
solution.
1) I have an existing Fedora 13 LiveCD which I burned to a CD and
tested on a system without issue.
2) I then took that same ISO and dropped it in my pxelinux.cfg/default
for being able to boot over the network. I made sure to extract the

Strange behavior
I'm using syslinux 4.04 with dynamically generated menus configuration based
on info found in various web pages. I'm doing my testing using a vCetner
4.10 Vmware virtual machine. This works some of the time, but not always.
I just copied the prebuilt modules from the syslinux 4.04 distribution for
gpxelinx.0, menu.c32, reboot.c32, and pxelinux.0
When I boot a machine dhcpd says to boot

installing only pxelinux?
I've been using pxelinux since version 3 (way back when Fedora was new
and RedHat was still free :-) ) but looking at the more modern releases
I have a sinking feeling I've "just been doing it wrong" all these years.
E.g. back then I'd download the syslinux tarball, copy pxelinux.0,
menu.c32, and maybe memdisk to /tftpboot/ and that was pretty much it.
I don't recall

RFC 3942 notice: PXELINUX, DHCP options 208-211
Dear friends,
In accordance with RFC 3942 I would like to submit the following DHCP
options for official consideration. These options are used by PXELINUX,
which is part of the SYSLINUX distribution, and although exact usage
count is impossible to determine, is widely held to be the most widely
used method for booting Linux from a network.

pxelinux 4.03 taking forever to find ..../pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi,
Is there anything that controls the speed with which pxelinux.0 (4.03)
enumerates the files in .../pxelinux.cfg before it reaches the
.../pxelinux.cfg/default file ?

Problems with NBP chaining
I've just been playing with PXELINUX 1.74, and I can't get NBP
chaining to work.
First problem is that the code doesn't appear to recognize .0 files.
I could be completely mistaken (x86 assembler isn't my forte) but I
think the problem in pxelinux.asm is here:

pxelinux takes too long trying all the config file options
Hi All,
I have a situation where I want to netboot and ONLY use pxelinux.cfg/default.
It seems to take FOREVER for pxelinux to try all of the config file
file options before falling through to default .... trying each
possible combination multiple times ... increasing the wait time
everytime it doesn't get a response.

pxelinux properly configured cannot find "default" configuration file
Hello! I have some weird problem.
I have pxelinux(3.10) configured fine. Os: FreeBsd 6.1, tftp-hpa 0.41, some version of
dhcpd from ports.
It worked before on
another machine which's hd passed away and i lost my working example.
Configured new computer as boot server...
What happends is dhcp gives all the parameters to client(this server
also works for giving addresses to workstations) -

newbie question: pxelinux.cfg/default question
Hello all,
I understand that during PXE boot, it goes into the pxelinux.cfg and it states:
1. "it will search for the config file using its own IP address in
upper case hexadecimal, e.g. 192.0.2.91 -> C000025B (you can use the
included progam "gethostip" to compute the hexadecimal IP address for
any host.) If that file is not found, it will remove one hex digit and

pxelinux timeout problem on CentOS 5, syslinux-3.11-4
Hi all,
I'm currently working on a project to have all of our systems here use pxelinux for multiple system reinstalls. One of the requirements is that timeout works, but for some reason it doesn't.
I've got a default option set, and a timeout of 300. pxelinux will read the timeout line properly, as it displays a timeout of 30 seconds when the PXE menu comes up, yet it never starts

pxelinux tftp timeout
Hi, I was looking through the archives and wiki for something related to
this, but all I keep coming up with are options for the prompt timeout
and user input.
Is there a way to change the default timeout for tftp in pxelinux? The
be more specific, we use IP in HEX to network boot and it takes a very
long time for pxelinux to timeout on GUID and MAC, before finally
getting to HEX and

pxelinux (2.08 or later) on VMware
Hi,
pxelinux(2.08 or later) waits forever after "boot:" prompt
on vmware (4.52). pxelinux(2.07) works.
After I comment out DO_IDLE in ui.inc (2.08 or later),
it works. but I'm not sure why... (vmware bug?)
Thanks,
Kaz

pxelinux: Using just pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi friends...
I am using pxelinux but it is so slow when I don't write MAC addresses
in /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf so How do I can use pxelinux.cfg/default directly
and not have to wait?
A lot of thanks.

pxelinux 4.03 taking forever to find .../pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi All,
It appears the NetApp OnTap tftp server we were using doesn't
implement the "OpCode: Error Code (5); Error Code: File not found (1)"
response." so we just moved the tftp service to RHEL boxes running HPA
tftpd.
It's essential for our deployment system to locate the pxelinux config
specific to an installation request based on it's MAC address. If the

Default PXE boot timeout
Hello all,
I have a NFSroot'ed a couple of OS platforms so that servers can have
the option (web access) to:
a. boot off a CentOS NFS root over the network
b. or LOCAL hardrive (FreeBSD).
A Simple script controls this so that if user selects NFS root -
- /etc/dhcpd.conf will be updated to include the filename "pxelinux.0"
parameter and it will find its configuration file based

pxelinux.cfg/default
Can someone tell me what is supposed to go into pxelinux.cfg/default ?
I get the intial transfer of pxelinux.0 to the client and I'm not really
sure what is supposed to happen next..
I get an error msg about TFTP server does not support the tsize option,
but that may be simply because the corret file isn't there to be
transferred.
Can I download the correct file from anywhere?

timeout: retrying... with atftpd and pxelinux
I'm trying to network boot a thin client using pxelinux. I had this working
about a year ago but have since reinstalled my OS (went from RH9 to FC2). I'm
using atftpd. The thin client gets the dhcp address fine and requests
pxelinux.0. Eventually, it just times out. Here's the relevant info from

multiple default in /pxelinux.cfg
Dear Sir,
I am using PXES for booting diskless computer to win2k, and/or LTSP
servers.
The problem is we have many computers in our lab have different
computers, so i require different .initrd files for each group of
computers.
Can i have different /pxelinux.cfg/default files so that i can define
different locations for my boot files.
Thanks in advance.

ONERROR not triggered in PXELINUX 3.31 when ramdisk missing
Hello,
I tested some things, and found the following:
when the kernel image file is present, but the initrd image is not,
ONERROR is not called, and PXELINUX stays in the prompt forever ...
Other error scenarios tested okay, a down/unresponding TFTP server can
lead to 15-20 minutes delay until all tried filenames timeout out ...
Just to let you know :)
