How to create home directories for virtual users?
Hello, I,m using Dovecot 1.2.9, now finishing a migration from Courier IMAP. Documentation (http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home) says that home directory should not be the same as mail directory. When I create new user accounts with PostfixAdmin the mail directory is not a problem but is there some smart way to create the home directory as well (locating it for instance in

sieve folders in maildir with imap: not a directory not fixed with maildir_stat_dirs = yes
As my logs fill up with "imap(user at domain.com): Error: stat(/mail/doman.com/user//.dovecot.sieve/tmp) failed: Not a directory" errors, I followed the advice at https://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home and https://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2016-June/104403.html and set in /usr/local/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf # By default LIST command returns all entries in maildir beginning

Autocreation the home folder
Sorry if this has been already asked, but I haven't been able to find a solution, I am trying to migrate a dovecot 1.2 config to 2.1, the 'dovecot -n > dovecot.conf' migrated all the setup without issues, and the mail is working as expected. The only issue I've had is with the change with the mail_location, mail_home, that in the 2.1 versions can't be on the same path.

Error: User bob@aaa.bbb doesn't have home dir set, disabling duplicate database
Yes, that is what I did and it all works apart from the error message on the server about the missing home dir The doc seems to indicate that a home dir is needed. Correcting Mail Home, Maildir and Sieve folder locations
I have Dovecot 2.3.7.2 on Ubuntu 20.04. I just migrated the server from CentOS 8, and only migrated to the CentOS 8 machine a few months ago off of CentOS 7. I am pasting `doveconf -n` at the bottom of this email. Everything is working. However, I'm trying to clean up warnings in the logs, and just discovered that I'm not managing home directories properly.

Transitioning away from mail_location = maildir:~
Hi, I have been using this setup for years: mail_home = /var/mail/vhosts/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~ I have since learned that mail_home and mail_location should be different. I plan to use this: mail_home = /var/mail/vhosts/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~/mail I would like the transition to be transparent for my email clients. I don't want mail/directories/sieve_scripts to

Virtual users - what is better Maildir or mbox?
Hi, I'm trying to configure a server to use SAMBA and Winbind to authenticate to Active Directory.... I managed to get this portion up and running even the Dovecot portion. For reference something similar to this guide: http://www.whitneytechnologies.com/?p=119 However PAM is slightly different: # cat /etc/pam.d/dovecot auth sufficient pam_krb5.so no_user_check validate account

Dovecot 2.2.4 does not create home directory?
Hi, Does not create, or something I did wrong? Here http://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home it is written Home vs. mail directory Home directory shouldn't be the same as mail directory. It's possible to do that, but you might run into trouble with it sooner or later. Some problems with this are: and Ways to set up home directory The home directory is the same as the mail directory.

Home directories
I've noticed that a lot of people are using e.g.: mail_location = maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%n Then either they don't have home directory set, or their home directory is the same as the maildir. http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home explains all the problems of not separate home and mail directories. Also whenever I try to suggest using a separate home and mail directory, the answer is

My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
Fran - thanks for your reply. I'm cc'ing you directly on this as well as posting to the list as I'm not sure how often you check the list and I'm down to hanging by my last fingernail on this project. I have some preliminary questions interspersed below. Thanks, --Mark -----Original Message----- > Subject: Re: My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not >
