using names() as a variable in a formula
Greetings List, I'm having some trouble with the use of the names function in a formula. Below is an example of something that works (i.e first line), and the second line is the same formula which doesn't. I want to be able to reference the column of the dataC table so I can run the variogram iteratively with a loop. > v<-variogram(A1~1,loc=~x+y, dataC) >

Calculating "row standard deviations"
Hi R-helpers, I have been struggling with calculating row and column statistics, e.g. standard deviation. I know that > datac$Mean<-rowMeans(datac,na.rm=TRUE) will give me row means. I have tried to replicate those row means with the apply function: > datac$Mean2<-apply(datac,2,mean) so that I can replace the function argument with "sd" (instead of mean) to get standard

Fit t distribution
Hi all, I am trying to fit t distribution using the function "tFit" in the library(fBasics). I am using the code tFit(datac[[2]]) and it returns the following list. Title: Student-t Parameter Estimation Call: tFit(x = datac[[2]]) Model: Student-t Distribution Estimated Parameter(s): df 78.4428 I just wonder how can I refer to the estimated parameters. I tried

POSIXct and chron issues with tz
Dear All- I am trying to merge two data files - they have different date formats and different times zones. I need to match up the date/time of the datasets and then invoke a conditional statement, such as: if dataC$mph is >= 12 then keep dataM$co23 for the corresponding time/date stamp. snippets of data files: *dataC.txt* LST in mph Deg DegF DegF2 % volts Deg

Plotting survival curves after multiple imputation
I am working with some survival data with missing values. I am using the mice package to do multiple imputation. I have found code in this thread which handles pooling of the MI results: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-May/132180.html Now I would like to plot a survival curve using the pooled results. Here is a reproducible example: require(survival) require(mice) set.seed(2) dt

how to ignore rows missing arguments of a function when creating a function?
Hi, I am relatively new to R; when creating functions, I run into problems with missing values. I would like my functions to ignore rows with missing values for arguments of my function) in the analysis (as for example is the case in STATA). Note that I don't want my function to drop rows if there are missing arguments elsewhere in a row, ie for variables that are not arguments of my

reshape -> reshape 2: function cast changed?
Hi, I used to use reshape and moved to reshape2 (R 2.15.1). Now I tried some of my older scripts and was surprised that my cast function wasn't working like before. What I did/want to do: 1) Melt a dataframe based on a vector specifying column names as measure.vars. Thats working so far: dfm <- melt(df, measure.vars=n, variable_name = "species", na.rm = FALSE) 2) Recast the

How to pass in a list of variables as an argument to a function?
Hello, I have some code that currently works fine and I am endeavoring to convert the major pieces of it into functions. This involves taking "hard coded" names of variables that are used in various places and figuring out how to abstract them out into functions where the arguments (i.e. a list of variables)?can be passed to the parent function and used within that function for various

Does acts_as_attachment :storage => :db_system work?
I found the post about needing to install acts_as_attachement_1_1_6 if you are not on edge rails. But I am having trouble getting db_system storage to work. As far as I can tell in from the database, things are working, but I don''t see how my model table hooks up with the db_files table so I am having trouble altering the image_tag from the tutorial

Mongrel upload progress not showing progress on production server

Red Hat 9 regex symbol conflict
Hello, I've been struggling with a problem for the past several weeks, trying to get PL/R (R procedural language handler for PostgreSQL, http://www.joeconway.com/plr/) to work on Red Hat 9. In brief, R dumps core during the embedded library initialization, while in Rf_regcomp(), working on on Rprofile. Below I've included the important parts of a backtrace: Program received signal

Using Flexible Discriminant Analysis (fda) in mda
Greetings everyone, I was wondering if anyone had experience in using fda (flexible discriminant analysis) in the mda package. Specifically, I can run the model but I cant locate/produce much of anything beyond the predicted values and confusion matrix. I've been searching for more examples or documentation but cant seem to locate any specific to the program itself. I need to be able to find

Full_Name: Roland Puntaier Version: 1.8.1 OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (62.99.238.78) I have a data frame with some columns being logical. I wanted to calculate a column that is an AND combination of the other logical columns. I tried to use apply(df,1,all) It did not work because of the implicit string conversion. So I made the functions All<-function(...)

User defined functions error - where is it ?
Hello, I have a written a couple of functions (states.trends(.) and trend.generator(.)) to create monthly aggregated time series from disaggregated data. They seem to work pretty fine with all the data I provide, but they give me the following error in one the case I use a particular table (per.after.sub): > states.trends(per.after.sub,'CUST_SINCE') Error in if (d.length%%d.length2 !=
