Hi, There is a way to allow usernames with dots like firstname.lastname. On Red hat 7.3 it was possible, but after Fedora 1 it was blocked. How this could be changed? Thanks, -- Cleber P. de Souza

OpenLDAP rules
Hi list. Maybe this could be off-topic but here I think many have used OpenLDAP to unify yours authentication needs, allowing an unique username and password for all the corporate applications. My doubt is, which rules do you use to split all the user levels so that one user could be allowed to access app A but isn't allowed to access app B (think this about many apps)? Have you been using

Option valid user not expanded for groups
Hi, I have a AIX 5.3 machine with Samba 3.0.24c joined into one Windows 2003 ADS server OK. I can request basic information, user lookup, domain lookup(wbinfo, id, net groupmap). When I want to acces the share \\node05\brom from one Windows station I receive a popup window password. In the log of the samba for that machine I found: [2007/04/27 10:48:27, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(319)

mapping well known groups problem (net groupmap)
Hi I have samba 3.0.14a (debian/stable) and wonder where the problem is that running this command: # net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=512 type=d gives: adding entry for group Domain Admins failed! but (note changed rid) # net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=1000 type=d works fine. Groups not mapping correctly.
Hello, At one time I installed an alpha of samba-3.0 and it had a smbgroupedit command that mapped unix and windows groups via webmin. This seems to be missing in beta3, has it been depreciated? Also I can't seem to get the group map to take effect unless the unix group is the users primary group. Either that or I don't understand something. I do not have winbindd running or any idmap

Group mapping doesn't seem to be working
Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble getting group mapping to work. I want to have a Samba share that contains a number of different folders, and some of those folders will be restricted depending on the user's membership to certain Active Directory groups. I thought this could be done by mapping the Active Directory groups to equivalent UNIX groups, and then using standard UNIX

It is stated as a well known but not essential entity inside samba documentation. Is it correct to

well, they both have the same sid, for some bizarre reason. net groupmap list -s /etc/samba/smb.ldap |grep "Admin" Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-4070452498-3149834983-2923667569-512) -> 512 Administrators (S-1-5-21-4070452498-3149834983-2923667569-544) -> 544 Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-4070452498-3149834983-2923667569-512) -> ntadmin and see, it has a posixgroup entry? # LDIF Export

Trying to get a better understanding of group mapping
Okay... I have been doing some reading re: group mapping but a few questions remain. Here is what I understand. Feel free to correct me where I am wrong. Group mapping is necessary to provide Windows domain accounts with privileges on the Linux machine. The net groupmap modify command is used to map any Windows group to a Linux group. Now for the things I don't fully understand: When I

Documentation bug? domadm privileges
Hello I have been solving a problem how to make a nonroot user able to administer the domain (add users, groups, modify them etc.) from Windows workstation using usrmgr.exe It looks like what is stated in Samba HOWTO collection as prerequisites is not enough. First I found Chapter 12 cxl "How to make Samba PDC users member of the Domain Admins group" - made the nonroot user member of

Idmap and ldap backend not working on domain member
Hello, on domain member idmap against ldap is not working. I tryed to dump network communication between MEMBER and ldap server, but Ethereal (0.10.0a) says packets (3 pieces at all) are corrupted and can not be analysed (I have ldap ssl = off). Our setup: Samba domain seems to be working, WinXP logons to domain and users did not report any problems. Server is PDC on samba (3.0.2 on linux
