troubleshooting unexpected disconnects
Hi list, I am still having troubles with rsync, as on large areas in our setup, it keeps dying unexpectedly. See my previous post two days ago for the initial tries. I realize it is a somewhat broad question, but how do I troubleshoot these disconnects? Im no great programmer, although we have a few good c programmers around, and if needed I can ask for their help. But for now, my thinking is,

Upgrade frim 6.0 to 6.1 crashes on x3850
Hi, After yum update on a Cent OS 6.0 IBM x3850 server to Cent OS 6.1, the kernel crashes on boot. I have googlet a little, and find that others have the same problem and there seems not to be a solution yet. The kernel that crashes is 2.6.32-131.21.1.el6.x86_64. If i boot the prior kernel 2.6.32-71.29.1.el6.x86_64 instead it works! Is it advisable to run the server with kernel

samba4 backup script
Hi list I recently encountered errors while trying to backup the samba4 AD. Apparently tar had some problems with sockets in the samba4 directory. I modified the samba4 backup script, perhaps this or a similar change is good to include upstream? Network and IP's
Hi, When "playing" with Cent OS 5.x Virtualization, I could have a host with IP:192.168.10.40 and the guests with IP's: 192.168.10.41, 192.168.10.42... an so on. But now after installing Cent OS 6.0 as a host, I can't figure out how to make my guest get the same IP's. My host is still 192.168.10.40, but the 1. guest i make, get an IP of 192.168.122.x ! I can see

How to add System V Filesystem to Centos?
Hi, I am working on a project where I have to move some parts files from an old Unix server. I have tared the files to floppy disc, but I can't mount them. After doing some reasearch I have found that the SCO Unix ver 3.2 uses a System V filesystem I think. From the article that I have read I need to add this filesystem to my kernel to be able to mount and read the floppy discs. Can

Recommended way for initial backup before rsync calls
Hi rsync'ers. What can you recommend to create the initial backup of a partition before calling rsync (under Linux, 100 GB, 10M files, only normal files and some soft links)? (Using rsync takes too long for this initial copy.) Here are some candidates: 1. star -copy -no-fsync -p -xdot -C $1 . $2 2. tar -C $1 -cf - . | tar -C $2 -xf - 3. cp -a $1 $2 4. cpio ... ... Any experiences?

backup to disk
Hi, I'm looking for common practices for backing up user data to disk. My user data is all in /home. I'm also interested in what folks are doing for things backing up os and configs. Any pointers on setting up rsync, cpio, etc would be appreciated. Pointers to good how-to's especially welcome. Currently we're using Arkeia Network Backup (commercial product with which I am

Handy file storage for LLD/ELF --reproduce
I notice that phabricator has http://reviews.llvm.org/file/ which can hold files. I haven't tested the limit, but it seems like it handled a 26MB file fine (the particular file was just from a random LLD bugzilla bug). So it is probably a good idea to document somewhere that http://reviews.llvm.org/file/ can be used for storage of --reproduce cpio archives if they are too large for bugzilla.

CentOS 5.0 /proc Backup/Restore
Hi, I've recently switched to CentOS 5.0 from RedHat 9.0 and found a new directory /proc which contains "virtual" files according to the docs. When I try to run my normal backup which uses cpio to create archives, it complains about not being able to access many files in the /proc directory. This is also true of some files in /sys/devices. Searching for something that

NTFS backup question
Hi. I know that this is the Samba list, however I searched the net and asked the below question on MS mailing lists, but I didn't got any usefull info, so: Does anyone know of any free tool that can be used from WinXP command line to backup files from NTFS 5 volumes paths (eg. \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1) to a file on a diferent disk or to a stream. Are the "centos.org" AMIs in the EC2 marketplace "official"? locale breakage in 6.4 AMI
Hi all, I've reviewed the mailing list archives and it looks like the "centos.org" AMIs in the marketplace are really official products of the centos project (whatever that means), but I wanted to ask explicitly to confirm. Presuming yes, I've run into an odd problem with the 6.4 x86_64 AMI (not updated). with a few packages, files are not being properly created in

Totally newbie need to setup rsync
Howdy! I am totally new to rsync and most UNIX things. We have two servers running SCO OpenServer 3.2 Ver 5.0.6. One of the servers is our live operation and the second is our backup server. I need to keep data from operation server up-to-date in our backup server and that's where 'rsync' comes in. I already downloaded binaries, unzipped and restored to disk but have no idea where

Handy file storage for LLD/ELF --reproduce
If we can, I would like to increase the bugzilla attachment size limit anyway. Users attempting to attach preprocessed source run into this limit all the time and have to use google drive or something.
