YUM Plugins: I seem to be "unplugged"?
Have followed all instructions, googled and read Johnny's November post,
went to Duke (not physically, web-spherically, although it's only 45
minutes away),...
and still can't see how I have protectbase operational.
Installed:
[root at wlmlfs08 ~]# yum -C --disablerepo=rpmforge list|grep yum
centos-yumconf.noarch 4-4.5 installed

Protectbase Plugin not working?
Alle,
I have installed and enabled (I think) the yum protectbase plugin:
[cwfox at lurker ~]$ rpm -qa | grep -i protectbase
yum-plugin-protectbase-1.1-1.c4
[cwfox at lurker ~]$ cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/protectbase.conf
[main]
enabled = 1
[cwfox at lurker ~]$ grep plugin /etc/yum.conf
plugins=1
[cwfox at lurker ~]$ cat /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo

Thank you: Wiki data for adding 3rd party repository, ProtectBase and Priorities
This is a public thank you, to whoever wrote the Wiki's for adding 3rd
party repositories, ProtectBase and Priorities. Clear, excellent, step
by step instructions. I did this late last night and I missed the thing
that Priorities is the recommended plugin, so I will change to that,
from ProtectBase. :-) Lanny

Selectively updating protected repos
I've been trying out the protectbase plugin for yum, and haven't yet
determined the best way to selectively update a package. E.g. I'd
like to mark the base repo as protected, but get the latest firefox
from the centosplus repo.
What's the correct incantation for this?

Clarification in HowTos/MigrationGuide page
Hi,
A little more of clarification :) ... In some wiki pages say that the
protectbase and priorities yum plugins can not be used together. It
seems that the next paragraph must be updated:
====>
Always beware when using/mixing 3rd-party repos. The yum protectbase
and/or priorities plugins are your friends. Although both can be used
together, using protectbase is probably unnecessary if

additional yum repos for 4.3
Hi;
On my Fedora Systems [/etc/yum.repos.d] I have the following repos:
dag.repo
dries.repo
fedora-extras.repo
fedora.repo
fedora-updates.repo
freshrpms.repo
livna.repo
Two questions:
1) Where can I get a .repo file (with centos url's of course) for the
baseic stuff like updates and extras.
1b) Can I use redhat repos?
2) What about the other guys, livna, dag, dries, freshrpms.

yum timeout ... (CentOS 6.8)
I note that duke.edu matches uk, and unl.edu matches nl.
Maybe they are regular expressions,
i just tried with
#include_ony=\.nl,\.de
and got less surprising results

Planning Mail Server (with low resources)
Hello,
I'm planning the installation of the school's Mail Server. This is the
first time I get in administration. I've been reading about postfix,
cyrus and the first page in the guide of HughesJR.com[2] about
installing postfix-cyrus, but due my low hardware resources, I ask for
suggestions to see If what I need can be done (and|or) stable.

problems with yum and 4.3-->4.4
Are the problems with yum in the Centos 4.3->>4.4 upgrade process due
to a forked or obsolete version of yum?
I briefly scanned <https://lists.dulug.duke.edu> and didn't see any
problems, but did see some incidents regarding yum hangs reported
about a year ago.

Using CentOS repos in a RHEL machine
Hi
I have 2 machines with RHEL 5.2 and I would like to use CentOS repos. I
would like to know if the document "Using CentOS Repositories on RHEL
Machines"[1] can be used in CentOS 5.2 without too much modifications.
Thanks

yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins
All,
We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the
dev.centos.org repository.
The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for
normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror.
See the announcement on the centos-devel list for details:

Hello,
Does anybody knows a way to keep updated mixed repositories without
mixing them ?
For Example i have 3 repos in my desktop centos system , Centos repos
handled by up2date
Dag repo handled by apt and Karan repo handled by yum.
I need packages from each repo but i don't want the secondary repos to
mess my system so
i never update with these repos. is there a way each tool (up2date,

need advise on protect base and priorities plugin
Hi,
Is it not ok to use both plugins at the same time? I have read from the wiki page of centos that you must use only either protect base or priorities plugin. I have been using the the config file below for months and did not encounter any problems. I used priority=1 and protect=1 on base and updates (addons, extras protect=1 ; set no priorities) for the CentOS-Base repo and on the rpmforge

Updated Yum Docs
The docs in http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/docs/ do
not reflect yum of today ie the yum plugins. Where can
updated yum docs be found? By browsing lists such as
fedora-devel, centos one can see how the plugins have
"stumbled in" but newbies/anyone wanting to pickup on
the new features has nothing to read.
Note there are yumex docs at the above location but my
query relates to yum

Korean Translation - Anaconda Slides
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
Well, it seems like my gnome terminal can't interpret Korean
translations very well. Or maybe it can and I don't know how to confirm
it ? I tried the following encoding characters in the gnome terminal:
Current Local (UTF-8)
Korean (EUC-KR)
Korean (UHC)
Korean (JOHAB)
and all I can see are question marks inside black rhombus. That
