tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow. I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct. This was mostly a question about why yum

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' , but received a 2006a update of the rpm. Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything. Thanks Steve Campbell campbell at cnpapers.com Charleston Newspapers

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine. I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and find that it

New member, new OS, old Tao user
Mr. Parsley, the main man at the Tao Linux group, has announced that he will no longer be able to do his thing for Tao Linux. Just recently, I had decided to investigate CentOS 4 before his announcement, and liked a lot of what I saw. Due to the Tao announcement, I have decided that CentOS will "have" to be the OS for my company in the future. Hence, my new membership to this list.

Complex sendmail alias handling
Getting in late on this one, but if I didn't need to spend money, couldn't spend money, or what ever the reason may be, and the aliasing was something that needed changing on a schedule, then why not just set up multiple alias files, run cron to replace them when needed, and "newaliases", all in cron scripts? You would need to maintain as many versions as required, but sounds

Still unsure of the Dag Repos for CentOS 3
I have read the Wiki for the Yum stuff, and tried to pay attention to the variations for Centos 3/Centos 4 mentioned, but for the life of me, I can't seem to get the Dag repo working properly on my CentOS 3 system. I have installed the rpmforge rpm, but this doesn't seem to do much. It does create(I think it created it) the yum.repos.d folder, and I edited the Dag repos file to be

Netgear FA312 Wake-on-Lan problem
I have just noticed what appears to be a problem with my CentOS 3.7 servers shutting down. I have Netgear FA312 NICs in some of my DELL PowerEdge 700 servers and this particular NIC has WOL ability. I cannot turn this off in the BIOS or limit the error responses. When I do a "halt", the server goes only as far as closing the ethernet card and stops, resulting in a hardboot being

OT rpmforge rpm is not putting Dag repo info in yum.conf
I should change this to OT, as it's not really CentOS related. I had a post on the list last week asking how the rpmforge rpm was to be implemented in yum. Craig White was kind enough to list how his yum.conf is appended, I assume after he installed the rpm. Unfortunately, mine is not appended with these lines. I am running CentOS 3. I will add these lines manually, and probably remove

Clearlooks & Bluecurve icons missing from Centos 6
The Clearlooks and Bluecurve icon directories that were provided under Centos 5 that have disappeared on Centos 6. Clearlooks icons were provided by gnome-themes-2.16.0-1.fc6 and has disappeared with gnome-themes-2.28.1-6.el6.noarch, and Bluecurve icons were provided by redhat-artwork-5.1.0-28.el5.centos, which doesn't appear to exist at all with Centos 6. Were these icons removed for a

DC replication not working
I've got a couple of Samba4 DCs running as VMs for testing. The primary AD DC went smoothly. The second VM joined properly and all but it's only when I get to the replication tests that I see errors. This is following the wiki When I run the command "samba-tool drs kcc -Uadministrator windowsdc.mycrap.cnpapers.dom" I get an error indicating that

DRBD question.
I'm going to have to be a little vague on this one, but hope I provide enough to make the question clear. I'm not doing the work on this server, a co-worker is, but I said I would ask for him. He is trying to get DRBD installed. He's using Centos 5.1 and the yum repos, but is getting problems with things like the kernel, drbd.so, and the likes. All install fine, but I'm not

DNS problems
I'm running my AD now, but testing some things dependent on DNS does not seem to be working. Our server is setup in our cnpapers.net domain and was provisioned using Internal Samba DNS. The forwarder is set properly, and almost everything resolves. The forwarder DNS server only has a subset of zones we use on it and it forwards requests to our public/real DNS server. So a request would

matching tables
Dear Listers, I am trying to match tables that DO NOT have the same length. The tables result from the function "table()" so they look like this: table 1 2 3 4 3 5 7 table 2 1 2 3 6 4 5 I need the following output: (NOTICE THE ZEROS) 1 2 3 4 table1 0 3 5 7 table2 6 4 5 0 Unfortunately, I was not successful using "match()". problems linking c++ code
I've been trying to learn about dynamically loading subroutines in R. Ultimately I would like to use this approach to implement some simulations. For the moment though, I've run into a problem compiling c++ code and loading it into R. The 'C/C++' and 'R'code below works fine when compiled and linked with gcc, but gives an error when the library is compiled and linked with

inodes 100% full, how do I know?
How can you know beforehand, without running fsck, that all inodes are used of a particular ext3 filesystem? Default systemtools use output from df, which shows only a 50% usage of the filesystem, and pretend nothing is wrong, while you really cant't move or copy a file to it. So I only found out when running fsck. This is my output from fsck (RH7.2, stock kernel, stock? ext3): root# fsck

nested mixed-effect model: variance components
Dear listers, I am trying to assess variance components for a nested, mixed-effects model. I think I got an answer that make sense from R, but I have a warning message and I wanted to check that what I am looking at is actually what I need: my data are organized as transects within stations, stations within habitats, habitats within lagoons. lagoons: random, habitats: fixed the question is:
