Please keep the list in cc.
Sorry, it didn't work as expected. Maybe someone else have an appropriate
solution.
Best,

Problem in optimization of Gaussian Mixture model
Hello,
I am facing a problem with optimization in R from 2-3 weeks.
I have some Gaussian mixtures parameters and I want to find the maximum in

Dear all,
I would like to use the following function
fitdist(data, distr, method=c("mle", "mme", "qme", "mge"),
start=NULL, fix.arg=NULL, ...)
for many different distr values like distr=c("norm","lnorm","pois") (just a small example)
and take back into a list the parameter name which is what is inside distr plus what the

Reshape dataframe according to ordered variables
Dear all,
I am still a R apprentice... Apologies for the basic question.
I am trying to reshape a dataframe based on the order of two variables
(a character variable and a numerical variable). To simplify it,
consider the following dataframe
> df<-data.frame(id=c("b","b","a","a","a"),ord=c(2,1,1,3,2))
id ord
1 b 2
2 b 1

About object of class mle returned by user defined functions
Hi,
There is something I don't get with object of class "mle" returned by a
function I wrote. More precisely it's about the behaviour of method
"confint" and "profile" applied to these object.
I've written a short function (see below) whose arguments are:
1) A univariate sample (arising from a gamma, log-normal or whatever).
2) A character string

PLS regression?
Hi all,
I would like to do some QSAR analysis (quantitative structure activity
relationship). I need to use some Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression,
but I have not seen this option on the R-project. Is it possible to do this
kind of regression on R?
thank you in advance
best regards,
olivier

Strange behavior when trying to piggyback off of "fitdistr"
Hello.
I am not certain even how to search the archives for this particular question, so if there is an obvious answer, please smack me with a large halibut and send me to the URLs.
I have been experimenting with fitting curves by using both maximum likelihood and maximum spacing estimation techniques. Originally, I have been writing distribution-specific functions in 'R' which work

Insert text in data.frame
Dear R-helper,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to convert a dataset to a
format recognizable by a software onboard a research vessel but I am
having problems with some steps.
I have a data frame as follows:
Conc Lat Lon Depth
Point0000 56.25 -5.65 70
Point0001 56.55 -5.35 85
Point0002 56.25 -5.65 65

Latin Hypercube Sampling with a condition
Hello all,
I am trying to do a Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) to a 5-parameter
design matrix. I start as follows:
library(lhs)
p1<-randomLHS(1000, 5)
If I check the distribution of each parameter (column), they are
perfectly uniformly distributed (as expected). For example,
hist(p1[,1])
Now the hard (maybe strange) question. I want the combination of the
first three parameters to sum up to
