Problems building 4.8 STABLE
I tried rebuilding yesterday. It failed [I don't recall the output]. I then completely deleted the /usr/src and /usr/obj, and cvsuped again last night [Approx 7PM on 2003-06-23]. I set the machine up with a buildworld and went to bed. This am I looked at the nohup.out file that was generated and it had failed. I took out the NOMAN=false in /etc/make.conf - as it appeared the failure

How to keep idmapping, when Samba servers becomes part of a Windows AD from a larger organisation.
Hi Since 2006, I used in my departement a Samba solutions based on NT4 style PDC, 2 BDCs and some files servers, desserving one hunderd persons. The backends for passwords and idd are a master and two slave openldap. Now i have to integrate a much larger organisation, an University Hospital, running with Windows AD. For political reasons, I should not maintain DCs anymore, but I will still

google translate for missing language pages ?
Can we / should we think about using google translate for offering pages in languages where there is no local translation ? http://biohackers.net/wiki/GoogleTranslate.py { viewable in a normal browser } has a plugin for this! -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219 at icq

R encrypt/decrypt
Hello, I am working on a web system (php) that uses R in the backend, and we need some basic fast encryption/decryption for the underlying mysql database that can be used by both R AND php. It does not need to be top-of-the-line, but just provide some basic level of fast encryption/decryption. Any suggestions? Thank you, Ramiro [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Block comment?
AFAIK block comment is not possible it needs to be implemented in R interpreter and defined in the parser.'If' solution is not elegant. run r script in r-fiddle
Dear List, According to datacamp support team, r-fiddle.org is not supported. We asked them to put it down as Professor Maechler suggested it is a waste of time for the R-help to respond to questions on something not maintained and severely outdated. If you would like to use R from your browser, you can embed the following into a web page: <script

[fdo] Lots of wiki content rewritten
Hi, To try to bring our wiki 'up to date' (as in, no longer talking about CVS), I've gone through and rewritten a lot of the wiki content for our main landing pages: our front page, the software and specifications pages, the infrastructure pages, and even (to an extent) the mission statement. A lot of this is trying to describe how we've interpreted these things over the past ten

read.csv behaviour
This might be obvious but I was wondering if anyone knows quick and easy way of writing out a CSV file with varying row lengths, ideally an initial data read from a CSV file which has the same format. See example below. I found it quite strange that R cannot write it in one go, so one must append blocks or post-process the file, is this true? (even Ruby can do it!!) Otherwise it puts

Psssst. The US is asleep - let's talk intern ationalization !!!
And let's also spell things properly! Like 'internationalisation' ...'Weasels have got into your phone system' instead of 'gotten into your phone system...' And 'please press the hash key..' instead of 'pound key' There should probably be en_uk, en_us, en_ca, en_za, en_nz, en_oz, en_ie and en_in etc to allow each English-speaking country to localise

run r script in r-fiddle
Hi Frank, You could upload your R source file to a public URL, for example to github and read via RCurl, as source do not support https as far as I know. Here is a working example. library('RCurl') tmatrix <- getURL("https://raw.githubusercontent.com/msuzen/isingLenzMC/master/R/isingUtils.R") eval(parse(text=tmatrix)) Not that you need to use raw URL for github file. UTF-8 to ISO 8859-1 converter
I've got a bug pending for FreeAmp right now where the vorbis metadata plugin does not handle international characters right. The comments that are returned from vorbis_comment_query() are in UTF-8, but FreeAmp is ISO 8859-1. I've been looking for a UTF-8 --> ISO 8859-1 converter that is available for inclusion in a GPL/LGPL program and is reasonably small. There are many full blown
