If Trying to Recover a Damaged Partition: kbs-CentOS-Extras Has a Tool
Recently (and for ages, I'm sure) folks have suffered partition destruction and had to try and recover. In the recent thread, the victim eventually had to resort to Google and fond some package that I can not remember now. Well, I was perusing my YumInfo.lst.05, for general info, and I discovered this (potential) little gem. Thought I would pass it on and make it "more googleable"

Tip and Workaround: UPS World Ship refuses to help with XP
Hi All, I replaced a Linux file server at a company last month. Both server had to be active at the same time to transition, so the new server got a new name. The customer client computers are all XP still. The machine with the client UPS World Ship stopped working as it kept looking for the old server. I replaced every instance of the old server's name with the new server in the registry.

Tracking local changes in CVS
I'm tracking some custom OpenSSH changes (based on 4.3p2) in a local CVS repository and have run into a few problems... mainly (I believe) because of the .cvsignore files. Keep in mind the main idea here is to commit the OpenSSH source without changes, tag, then add my custom changes and add a new tag. I can probably fix these by making local modes, but I'm just wondering if there

Interesting tidbit...
Greetings... Our current production server is running 2.0.7 (we are getting ready to deploy 2.2.5 shortly)... and I experienced this interesting problem.. In Apache, if I had it listening to ports 444 and 445 for SSL, Samba would suddenly stop working on that machine. I killed Apache, and suddenly everyone could get to Samba again.. I started it, and everyone would get errors saying the

Restoring data from disk w/ messed up partition tables
I had the electricity go out the other day. When my Centos 4.3 workstation came up, I said yes when it got to the prompt "Unclean shutdown, force filesystem check?" prompt. It ground away for awhile and then said something about a bad superblock. Yikes! I thought, that's a bad sign. After a reboot, I got nothing but a grub> prompt. I tried booting into rescue mode using the

For those of you who are expert you may chuckle over this. Perhaps if it's in the record, however, it may help someone else. Samba 1.9.18p7-2 PDC & netlogon? or p8? or wait?
I have a linux system running Samba 1.9.18p7-2 smoothly right now, with perhaps 600 users. I have an NT box with 2 users, for a dedicated application, which is a PDC right now. I have ~300 Win95 client machines that I want to have do a domain login, authenticating off the samba box (running RedHat 5.1, btw) so that I don't have to replicate users onto the NT box when all they really need to
