upgrade 1.0.15 -> 2.1.7: MBOX index compatibility and performance
Hi, we just upgraded our mailserver from Dovecot 1.0.15 to Dovecot 2.1.7. We use MBOX format (due to legacy compatibility), system users, PAM+GSSAPI auth, filesystem quotas, and indexes located on a separate filesystem: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=~/mail/INBOX:INDEX=/var/cache/dovecot/indexes/%16Hu/%u The 2.1.7 configuration files have been rewritten based on default templates

[PATCH klibc] gzip: Fix silent fallback to decompression
If the gzip utilities are built without support for compression, they will always attempt to carry out decompression even if the command name and options don't imply that. Instead they should fail with an explicit error in this case. assertion failed: (need_space == (uoff_t)-mails[idx].space)
I'm running Dovecot dovecot-1.0.r13 on FreeBSD (FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE- p10). Mail is stored in mbox format (dovecot.conf after the msg). Procmail delivers mail to subfolders under ~/.mail, locking using dotfiles. One folder in particular for one user has an mbox file ~/.mail/Cron. Quite often, I'll see that procmail processes are stacking up because ~/.mail/Cron.lock exists, and

problem with compression and decompression
Hi, I am facing a problem with my Voice Communication application. I am using the Speex API, and have based my application on the given example files sampleenc.c and sampledec.c. I'm using the OpenAL SDK for voice capture. I have provided below the two main functions within which the problem exists. "Compress()" and "Decompress()". Below the code for these functions, I

Is there a workaround for this?

Post-login scripting with mail_drop_priv_before_exec in dovecot2
Hi, I'm in the process of upgrading from dovecot v1.1 to dovecot 2. We fetch uid/gid user information from a database and also use post-login scripting with mail_drop_priv_before_exec = yes which means the postlogin script is executed with the permissions of the user we have found in the database. According to the dovecot2 wiki page, to get this behaviour in version 2 we have to set the

core files
Hey all: Was playing around with kill -11 on dovecot processes to see which ones would dump core and which ones wouldn't. If ulimit is correct dovecot and dovecot-auth will dump. If you perform the recommended (Set mail_drop_priv_before_exec = yes in config file) step, imap will also dump core. But I'm unable to force imap-login to dump core. I'm curious if this is possible

mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox...
Hi, We're getting a lot of errors like this: Mar 7 10:02:35 imapserver dovecot: imap(user1): mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox /home/user1/mail/mail/INBOX.Trash (8 > 2, seq=2,idx_msgs=6) We have several hundred people using the server, and at least 22 have had this error in the past 24 hours. The numbers at the end change between each user, which I guess you'd
