kernel LANG option
One thing that irritates me is that I'll copy something from a site in ff and paste it into webmail (squirrel/ensign, if that matters); then, in the evening, when I want to forward it to one or more of my lists, using t-bird, I have to clean it up *all* the time: 2-3 characters replacing ",' and -. I can't seem to find anything in either the webmail options (which I have set to

dovecot-antispam dependencies
Hi There's currently a version block for the dovecot and dovecot-antispam packages in Gentoo. Dependencies indicate that dovecot-2.0.11 does not accept dovecot-antispam-1.3. Is this correct or should it work? If not: How about the current rc of version 1.4? Cheers, -sven

Window function (again)
Hello, I'm searching some information about the Vorbis window function. I have read the following post from the mailing list archive (July 2003) where the function and its proof was explained: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/vorbis-dev/2003-July/007588.html Everything apart from one small passage was clear to me. f^2(x) + f^2(n/2+x) = 1 <=> f^2(x) + f^2(n/2-x) = 1 <-- here in

rhub vs. CRAN fedora-*-devel, using armadillo & slapack
Thank you for your answer. In facts, 10 threads are asked by armadillo for some LinAlg, which backs to two threads as warned. But I cannot imagine this costs so much time just for that... A deeper analysis of time spent seems to point that a large time was mainly spent on testthat and Rcpp dependencies compilation... But other recent packages depending on these also are not spending so much time.

rhub vs. CRAN fedora-*-devel, using armadillo & slapack
Thank you all, for these advices. So I try to fix OMP_THREADS, cleanup tests, and display explicitly what test is running by moving in tests/ instead of tests/testthat/... Next step should be to investigate blocking test using a reporter (maybe "list"). For now, waiting for CRAN results... problems when using dsync between servers
Hello, I'm trying to migrate from maildir++ to mdbox. The maildir++ is a leftover of our previous setup (was using courier) We have 3 virtuals servers for our +70000 accounts. Now, I'd like to use mdbox, so I'm trying using dsync for that. I setup a new virtual server, configured for mdbox. 1st, I tried a basic setup: I established a file with all my accounts (taken from LDAP)

Problem with nls.lm function of minpack.lm package.
Dear R useRs, I have a problem with nls.lm function of minpackl.lm package. I need to fit the Van Genuchten Model to a set of data of Theta and hydraulic conductivity with nls.lm function of minpack.lm package. For the first fit, the parameter estimates keep changing even after 1000 iterations (Th) and I have a following error message for fit of hydraulic conductivity (k); Reason for

Hey all, I'm trying to fit a non-linear model y ~ a * constant ^ b * x ^ c and estimates the paramaters a, b and c. Using the nls function, I'm getting following error message: Error in nlsModel(formula, mf, start, wts) : singular gradient matrix at initial parameter estimates If I logarithmize the whole equation log(y) ~ log (a) + b * log(constant) + c * log(x) and fit the

Problem : solving a equation with R , fail with uniroot function
Hi , I would like to know if a R function have the same behaviour than the matlab solve function. I tried something with uniroot but I have some problems: The equation I need to solve is : exp(c0-r0)*(bb0+x)*(bb1-x)=(bb0+x+1)(bb1-x-1) So I tried this: STEP 1: my function test test <- function(x,bb0=-3,bb1=5,c0=2,r0=0) { + ((exp(c0-r0)*(bb0+x)*(bb1-x))/((bb0+x+1)(bb1-x-1))-1)} STEP 2: >

No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)
Hello, I've successfully installed Icecast 2.0.0 and Ices 2.0.0 on a Compaq EvoN600C running Redhat 9. Everything runs quite well (no error loggued by Icecast or Ices), the Ices stream is seen as a source by Icecast and friends are able to listen to my radio (I see them as listeners in Icecast admin)... the problem is that they ear only silence ! Looks like the streaming is OK but Ices could

Rails: Good for everything?
My department is in a battle right now. We have some very por PHP people and very pro Rails people. The php guys make a good argument that Rails is good for new applications where we dictate the DB schema. PHP shines where we go into an existing application, or a new one where multiple databases or possibly legacy systems are involved. The PHP guys basically say Rails is good for Web 2.0
