problems with yum_priorities on CentOS5/RHEL5
Hello, Many of you will have read this page, with its (somewhat ambiguous) endorsement of yum_priorities: http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge As I gather has been stated before on the centos list [1], that quote stops short of outlining what exactly is wrong with yum_priorities (YP) and why it's the best solution. In fact it goes on to say: > as of yet, no

PostgreSQL 8.3.0 rpm packages for RHEL5/CentOS5
PostgreSQL 8.3.0 was released on February 4, 2008. There are a number of valuable enhancements in this version including Heap Only Tuples and integration of full text search. It is also reputed to provide a performance increase of at least 5% over 8.2.6. As usual, RHEL compatible RPMS are available at postgresql.org. However, there is a new (to me at least) project at http://yum.pgsqlrpms.org/

CentOS 5 ... again
At this point I don't think I can do anymore damage to my mail server but I'd like to know if anyone else is using the pre-built RPM files from ATrpms before I install them? http://dl.atrpms.net/all/dovecot-1.1.11-0_90.el5.i386.rpm http://dl.atrpms.net/all/dovecot-sieve-1.1.6-9.el5.i386.rpm Or is there a dovecot-sieve for 1.0.7 from the rpmforge repo? I haven't found it yet but

Obtaining puppet and facter for RHEL5/Centos5
What''s the correct yum repo to use for installing Puppet & Facter on RHEL5 and Centos5? I used to get them from the dlutter-rhel5 repo but this seems to be massively out of date now - latest version of puppet-server in there is 0.24.5-1.el5 and facter 1.5.4-1.el5. In Epel I see puppet-server 0.24.8-1.el5.1 and facter 1.5.4-1.el5 which is better but isn''t 1.5.4 the version

Authentication woes.
I'm still searching but hoping someone can offer a clue-stick. Long story short! I had a server crash suddenly and all I can get at are the files. Built a new host and copied the data and config files over, correcting ownership and permissions (hopefully) as I went. But now I can't get logged in. Messages in /var/log/dovecot/dovecot-info.log, without saslauthd running, are like

Latest CentOS rpms.
Along with my post about authentication I was wondering if anyone was building RPMs for the later versions of dovecot (and postfix) than I can find in the usual and not-so-usual yum repos? I already pull from rpmforge but would prefer something later than 1.0.7 Say the 1.1 series. Thanks, Rod --

auth issues on centos5 with ldap backend
Hi, We've had some issues with auth. /var/log/secure is full of 1000s of these lines: Jun 4 19:12:08 khan dovecot-auth: pam_unix(dovecot:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=dovecot ruser= rhost=127.0.0.1 user=user123 Users can usually login OK with their ldap credentials, but occasionally logins slow to a crawl if not outright fail, esp people checking

Which sound file formats?
I've got the text files created -- thanks to Russell Bryant -- for re-building the core and extra sounds using another voice but I'm not sure which formats to actually build. This will be a small/personal system using Vitelity.net so will only have SIP connections. The /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/ directory contains .alaw, .g722, .g729, .gsm, .ulaw, and .wav. What are the minimal

rhel5 rpm spec mods
Hi All, I'm in the process of building an rpm for rhel5 (client currently). This has required modification of the spec file. When I've completed the process, I'd like to submit the changes to save others doing the same work. Is this the appropriate place to submit a patch with those changes? Thanks -Ben -- Ben Walton Systems Programmer Office of Planning & IT Faculty of Arts

Using a 1.4 config with 1.6
I have a rather simple setup running under Asterisk 1.4. I'd like to move it to a new install of 1.6. Before I bring it online are there any gotchas I should look for? A Gotcha README would be better but searching with Google and the forums, for me, gets hits that deal with hardware issues -- cards etc. Nothing about depreciated/changed commands. TIA, Rod --

possible corrupt rpm database

I have added some extra repositories to my yum configuration, centosplus, rpmforge, atrpms, and the kbs repos. I haven't been having issues with installs or upgrades until today when i ran a yum update, and got a missing dependency error for
