mail_uid and mail_gid are not set in environment (for expire-tool and so)
Hello, I've just subscribed to the list, as a recent user of Dovecot (1.2.4 by now). I eventually missed a point, so I tried to find other doc or comments about my issue, but failed to. If the following has already been discussed, please simply reply with a URL to the corresponding thread or doc ;-) Now that I have covered my ass, here is the problem I meet. In dovecot.conf, I have the

Virtual users - what is better Maildir or mbox?
Hi, I'm trying to configure a server to use SAMBA and Winbind to authenticate to Active Directory.... I managed to get this portion up and running even the Dovecot portion. For reference something similar to this guide: http://www.whitneytechnologies.com/?p=119 However PAM is slightly different: # cat /etc/pam.d/dovecot auth sufficient pam_krb5.so no_user_check validate account

understanding user_attrs and mail_uid/gid
Hello, I'm trying to understand what's the difference between those parameters. In my dovecot.conf in the global section I have a definition of mail_uid and mail_gid. In my LDAP configuration used by passdb and userdb, I have a definition for user_attrs= uidNumber=500,gidNumber=8. Here is a part of my configuration files (dovecot version: 2.1.7) dovecot.conf mail_gid = 8 mail_uid =

Shared Mailboxes with VirtualUsers and mail_location retrieved from ldap
Hello, I spend a couple of days configurating a new installation of dovecot 2.0.14 with virtual accounts and NFS storage for maildir home/mail directories. Errors after install with non-standard prefix
Hi Everyone, I'm new in dovecot - so first at all, thank you for amazing work. I'd flicked through dovecot code and it's very accurate. I'm trying to use dovecot with a little bit non-standard configuration: dovecot installed under /my_path/dovecot, all users has the same home directory /my_path/var/mail and have to access all mailboxes/folders located there. But I have

krbtgt user not showing aes types
I have found source4/scripting/devel/chgtdcpass for adding the aes types to machines. I know you have to change the password of normal users. How do you fix this for krbtgt? Can you just change the password? Is there a recommended method? Thank you for any help, Trever -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name: signature.asc Type:

LDAP and GSSAPI problems
This is a continuation of a problem I have been having. Samba 4 has recently changed to require binds. I need LDAP to verify users exist. I am using Kerberos (GSSAPI) as the passdb. Samba can handle GSSAPI/Kerberos SASL binds. I have the following in my dovecot-ldap setup for userdb: dn = smtp/mailhost.example.org at EXAMPLE.ORG sasl_bind = yes sasl_mech = GSSAPI sasl_realm = EXAMPLE.ORG

Userdb database is LDAP based. Some users in LDAP might have a uid/gid defined. If thats the case, I want dovecot to use those uid/gid. If the user in LDAP does not have a uid/gid attribute, it'll fall back to

data retention and e-discovery rules
Hello All, I am in the United States where we have e-discovery rules. Some organizations have to retain data for a certain amount of time, others are required to have a data retention policy. This means that while it should probably be possible for a user to "delete" an email so they do not see it. The server needs to store it, possibly in a tree that mirrors the folder setup of

Discard mail with from date older than xxxx
I know that sieve doesn't do math. The file would be created externally. Based on examples in section 4.4 of https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5260#section-4 I figured something like this would work. if date :value "le" :originalzone "date" "date" "2018-10-25" { ??????? fileinto "SPAM"; ??????? stop; } However, I get the following. spam: line

Transitioning away from mail_location = maildir:~
Hi, I have been using this setup for years: mail_home = /var/mail/vhosts/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~ I have since learned that mail_home and mail_location should be different. I plan to use this: mail_home = /var/mail/vhosts/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~/mail I would like the transition to be transparent for my email clients. I don't want mail/directories/sieve_scripts to
