rpm spec file for "fakejava"
Interestingly, i just posted to the list a similar SPEC file.
look at the thread on CGI.pm.

I've attached my spec file for "fakejava" as well.
It was a lot of trial and error to make it work. None of the
documentation I could find was for modern versions of RPM, and IIRC the
documentation i did find for older versions was incorrect somehow.
I think I had to specify a source

rsync cygwin hang
Hello,
I'm having problems with rsync hanging on Cygwin. I read some archives
of the list about this, but if I understood it correctly this problem
had been solved? Mine prevails though.
I'm running rsync 2.6.2 at both ends, Cygwin's version on the Windows
end and backports.org's version on the other, Debian Woody, end.
The one on the Cygwin end is running as a daemon, --daemon

Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone
could clarify the details.
I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it
cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives?
I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the
whole pool or just when accessing that disk?
Thanks for your input.

quick and easy way to convert id3-tagged flac to flac-tagged flac?
So before i knew better, i encoded a lot of my CDs in flac and added
id3 tags (they worked, so great!).
I know i've seen mention of others doing this; anyone gone to the
trouble to write a tag conversion tool? Shouldn't be too tough,
but i'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

an rpm howto question
I am in a precarious spot....
I run centos 4.0. I upgraded my mod_perl RPM to mod_perl 2.0.1. CGI.pm 3.10 (3.05 comes with centos 4.0) fixes some namespace issues with mod_perl vs mod_perl 2.0.1. I need to upgrade to it to 3.10. Yet that file belongs to the perl rpm that comes with centos.
What do people generally do in this type of situation?
Do I need to compile a new perl just to upgrade

rsync and tunneling via ssh
Hi,
I have setup a rsync server with a rsync running as a deamon, due to security
rules I cannot open the rsync standard port (873) in the firewall.
We have to tunnel rsync through ssh.
On the client side, which is linux kernel 2.4 I have made the following script,
but
ssh -i /home/ifao/bin/traveltest -f -C -L 2211:cib.ifao.net:8730
cytric@localhost sleep 1000
rsync -auz --password-file=rsync.cib

aacraid monitoring tool?
I've got myself an Adaptec 2200 HW RAID card to play for couple of days. Tha
card uses aacraid device driver. Seems to work nicely, however just wandering
if there's a tool (prefferably CLI) for CentOS that can read out RAID
configuration data, status of individual drives, maybe even manage
(create/delete) RAID devices?
Thanks for any and all pointers.

Bandwidth limiting and shaping
Hi,
I have a client that is looking for an solution to do bandwidth
monitoring and traffic shapping. I would like to use Centos if
possible, but I need somthing that has a GUI so they can easily make
changes and updates. It would have to be ip based or mac address.
What would you suggest. I have looked a Ipcop and smoothwall as
solutions so far.
Thanks

Iptables port forwarding help
Hello,
I have a webcam that I wish to view from the internet. It is a wireless
linksys model with an ip address of 192.168.1.15. I have it set on port
8081, 192.168.1.15:8081.
I am using the IP Masquerade HowTo script. Here's the rule I added to my
firewall script:
EXTIF="ppp0"
INTIF="eth1"
EXTIP="`$IFCONFIG $EXTIF | grep inet | cut -d : -f 2 | cut -d \  -f

Bandwidth shaper suggestion
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a bandwidth shaper that can limit downloads from
certain IPs on a LAN.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking of something that's easy to set up and
configure. Even better if there's already a package that's on the
CentOS repositories (or if not, maybe an RPM).
Thanks and best regards,
Matt

ssh protocol 2
Does anyone know a simple self-contained (e.g., along with the
appropriate cygwinxxxx.dll file) rsync and ssh binary Windows
distribution of rsync and ssh in which ssh supports protocol 2? I tried
the installation from
http://optics.ph.unimelb.edu.au/help/rsync/binaries/ but these do not
support protocol 2. Thanks,

centos on 64M 350Mhz pentimum II
All,
I have an old computer 64M 350Mhz pentium II.
centos os 4.1 installs on it fine. however on boot
it says low memory and it kills certain processes. httpd or sendmail.
I have a 2GIG swap and I did a chkconfig XXX off on a few things
like xfs, nfs, httpd, kudzu.
My old 2.4 kernel used to run in 4M with a swap...
I had recompiled the kernel (took a while) to enable the cyclades module.

Confusion regarding rsync vs. rsyncx
We currently do backup using rsync amongst Linux and Solaris machines.
Modulo an ACL issue that we had to patch, this is working extremely well.
But I want to add our OSX machines to the mix. This is, unfortunately,
leaving me confused about rsyncx.
I can do the normal thing from OSX using rsync. But the page for rsyncx
says - cryptically, in my ignorant opinion - that rsyncx adds support for

I need help rsyncing Local Disks
Recently I've found out about rsync and wanted to use this to mirror local
disks on one of my servers. I first ran Ghost for Linux to get the exact
clone I was looking for, and now I'm ready to setup rsync to keep my drives
mirrored on a continual basis. Here's my setup:
1 Seagate 4.6GB SCSI on /dev/sda, mounted like this:
	/dev/sda1 ==> /boot - 101M
	/dev/sda2 ==> swap - 269M

Rsync security
Hello list,
I have a requirement to script a sync from a server to a UNIX workstation (Mac OS X) users desktop and profile related data at logon and
logoff. Rsync looks like it may be appropriate, but I am concerned about making a sufficiently secure connection between the server and the
client (given my sync must be non-interactive).
Rsh is not an option, so Ssh seems to be the only
