Mobile phone client detects 'PUSH' server
Does Dovecot really provide a 'PUSH' email service? The mobile phone
client (standard with SonyEricsson C510, in this case) reported that
the server (our Dovecot installation) offered PUSH email service. I
hadn't seen that in the documentation that I'd read and had understood
the client-server protocol to be a client-PULL service, in that the
clients decide which folders to

IMAP instead of Maildir on Ubuntu Precise
Why is dovecot using Maildir and not IMAP. Or is it using even using
Maildir at all?
Currently I'm using mailman, postfix and dovecot to manage a mailing
list. Mail is sent to thufir at dur.bounceme.net which the "mail server
delivery agent stack provided by Ubuntu server team" of dovecot-postfix
handles fine, keeping it locally, so far as it goes. The mail ends up

Mail Files on smbfs
Hello everyone,
I tried to set-up balsa email program(ver 1.2.0) in such a way that the
files(draftbox, sentbox, inbox, outbox and trash) resides on a smbfs
mount-point. This mountpoint is mounted with the correct uid,gid and the
permissions are set correctly.
Usually I'm able to send mails, but occasionally I tried to click on all the
five folders upon launching the program and then try

Cell gateway for T-Mobile US??
Most gateways I have found are only sold overseas.
Do these work in the US?
My provider is T-Mobile (using their Blackberries).
They support:
GSM (I am pretty sure)
GPRS
EDGE
We get unlimited Cell to Cell minutes and would like to leverage the
possible savings.
Does anyone know of a product that they have been happy with?
SIP or Analog is fine although SIP (or IAX) is preferred for the

Force update of Samba point-and-print drivers?
I hope someone here can offer an easy approach to the following
(somewhat simplified) scenario.
We have a Samba domain that is running well. We have 10 Samba/CUPS
printers and used the Windows Print Wizard method noted on pages
225-226 (section 17.6.1) of the Prentice-Hall-published Official
Samba-3 HOWTO to install the drivers. Over time, we learned to pay
particular attention the the printer

choosing an appropriate linear model
I am trying to model the observed leaching of wood preservative chemicals
from treated wood during an outdoor experiment where leaching is caused by
rainfall events. For each rainfall event, the amount of rainfall was
recorded as well as the amount of preservative chemical leached. A number
of climatic variables were measured, but the most important is the amount of
rainfall.
I have tried a

Access Windows AD share From Linux
I am trying to mount and access a Windows share, from one of our Active
Directory servers to one of our RedHat Enterprise 4 Linux hosts. I have
used Samba in the past to do the opposite, which worked very well.
I was successful in mounting the share, using the following:
mount -t smbfs -o username=<myid>,password=<mypassword> //<AD
Server>/<Share> /mnt/app1

Is there a fast way to determine how many documents a term occurs in,
besides iterating through every document with TermDocEnum?

2.2.15: SMTP submission server?
List, we're migrating to 2.2 from a 1.x version. There has been
mention from time to time of a dovecot SMTP submission server. Last I
saw was Timo suggesting this would be a 2.3 feature, but that there
was already a 'basic' capability in 2.2 that, more or less, merely
provided a secured/authorised SMTP submission. I haven't found
anything about this in the wiki, but the

Alternative Auth Methods.
hi,
Are there any alternative authentication methods for Samba? Other
thank the smbpasswd file? I'd like to do PostgreSQL or mySQL. Why?
Because I can do Exim/IMAP/POP3 Apache/Zope with SQL, if I could do
Samba it would wrap it up into one nice DB for authentication.
It does not have to be much, just the ability to get the data from
a SQL query rather than a flat file query.

FREAK/Logjam, and SSL protocols to use
List, good afternoon,
I was reading up on a TLS Diffie Hellman protocol weakness described here
https://weakdh.org/sysadmin.html
which is similar to the earlier FREAK attack, and can result in
downgrade of cipher suites.
Part of the solution workaround that the researchers describe for
Dovecot here
https://weakdh.org/sysadmin.html
includes altering DH parameters length to 2048, and

RAID card recommendation
Hey all,
After seeing the horrible lack of support for Promise cards in Redhat
Enterprise/CentOS, I am looking for a recommendation for a good IDE RAID
controller that is supported out of the box (i.e. I would prefer not to
have to install via a driver disk).
I would prefer ATA 133 over Serial ATA for now.
Thanks!

How do you make in_place_edit fields appear when empty?
Here''s a simple one...
When using in_place_edit fields, they don''t appear unless they already have a value. How can I get similar functionality when they are empty?
Thanks,
Nathan

Problems with lexmark printers
We have just added a lexmark c510 color laserjet printer to our
network. I have worked with HP printers previous to this and have
successfully had Windows computers select a queue from our linux server
which fed into the HP printers. This does not work with the lexmark
printers.
Neither Windows XP or Windows 2000 worked by using the lexmark as a
network printer going through the server.

Cannot install Garmin City Navigator DVD - err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles compressed file wasn't extracted (L"c:\\windows\\system32\\ROBOEX32.DLL")
Hello!
I'm trying to install the software "Garmin City Navigator
Europe NT v9" for a Garmin StreetPilot c510 - a GPS navigation
device.
When I run the installer in wine 0.9.26 on Gentoo, it finally
errors out with a useless error message in the GUI. On the starting
terminal I find:
err:msi:cabinet_notify failed to create L"c:\\windows\\system32\\ROBOEX32.DLL" (error 5)
