I need a SCSI card to attach a tape library to my system. I am looking at the Adaptec 29320A-R. Can anyone confirm that this card will work with the stock CentOS 4 kernel? -- Bowie

Kernel update and csgfs
My apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm not familiar with how kernel updates and kernel modules interact. I see that there are some kernel updates available via yum: ============================================================================ = Package Arch Version Repository Size

Hidden networking device configuration
I am trying to configure load balancing for a couple of CentOS4 servers. In order to make it work, I need to add a hidden networking device on each server with the virtual IP. I found the following instructions on linuxvirtualserver.org for doing this, but they don't work. echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward ifconfig dummy0 0.0.0.0 up echo 1 >

Shutdown script not being run
I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test script. My test script is just a simple file that echos back the start or stop command: #!/bin/bash #

Can someone either provide or point me to an online reference on how to proceed to add and configure a SCSI adapter and tape drive. I have read, but not really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle this? Regards, Jim I am a digest subscriber so the favour of an

Server hangs initializing audio
I have a server that frequently hangs while rebooting. I see no errors, but during the boot process it stops at this stage: Initializing hardware... storage network audio The cursor sits just after the word "audio" and I have to do a hard reset to get out of it. This server has no audio capabilities, so I am thinking that I just need to disable the audio stuff so it doesn't

Temperature sensor
Does anyone know of a cheap temperature sensor that will work with Linux? I don't need a fancy monitoring appliance, I just want a simple sensor that I can connect to one of my monitoring servers to let me know if the server room is getting hot. -- Bowie

SATA adapter recommendation
I have an old computer running CentOS 5. I need to add an SATA drive to it, but it doesn't have any ports, so I need an add-on card. The board only has a 32-bit PCI slot. Any recommendations on cards/brands that work well with CentOS? I don't need any raid capabilities, I just need a couple of SATA connections. Thanks, -- Bowie

more than one repo with --disablerepo
What's the correct syntax for something like the following: yum check-update --disablerepo=dag ivazquez Extras Misc this runs "dead" and doesn't do a check-update. Use kommas? Something else? man just tells to use glob exp, but what about multiple repo's? Kai -- Kai Sch?tzl, Berlin, Germany Get your web at Conactive Internet Services: http://www.conactive.com

reinstall packages
I have some rpm packages that I built locally. After installing and configuring them, I found a problem that required a source patch. I have rebuilt the rpms, but since they have the same version number as the original, I can't use "yum localupdate" to install them. Is there a clean way to do this with yum, or do I just need to remove the old packages and then install the new

Simple backup program
I am looking for a simple backup program that I can use to backup a CentOS box to a local tape drive. Hopefully someone here can give me a recommendation. yum updates
I am trying to update my cluster servers to a newer kernel. As the csgfs stuff is not updated for 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL yet, I have to use 2.6.9-34.0.1.EL. If I specify to update the cluster packages, yum will automatically find the proper kernel package to meet the dependency. The problem is that I also need the kernel-smp-devel package installed so that I can build a new AoE driver. It doesn't

Linking against a specific Berkeley DB install
I sent this question to the OpenLDAP list yesterday, but I still haven't seen the message come across the list. I am asking here in the hopes of getting a faster response. I am trying to compile OpenLDAP 2.3.11 from source on CentOS4. I have the rpm for db4-4.2.52-7.1 installed and also a source build of BerkeleyDB in /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4. How do I get OpenLDAP to link with the bdb

Building rpms
I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible. I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it? Bowie
