Problems with the IMAP proxy after upgrading from dovecot 1.1.16 to 1.211
We have frequent timeout problems after upgrading our imap servers from dovecot 1.1.16 to dovecot 1.2.11. One server acts as proxy only, and the other one is the "real" imap server". The credentials for the proxy service are stored in a remote MYSQL database. There were no trouble with dovecot 1.1.16. But now, with the most recent version, we get frequent login failures. It

User not found when using shadow for passdb
I am getting "user unknown" when trying to connect to the dovecot server using IMAP. The client gets an authentication failed message and does not download mail. The host system uses shadow passwords in /etc/shadow. I would like to use the same passwords for IMAP sessions, so I have set the passdb driver to shadow. The system is Slackware, which does not use PAM. Here is the dovecot

Postfix dovecot SASL and LDAP not working...
Hi, I'm trying to setup a new mail server where postfix 2.3-20060405 would use Dovecot's SASL and users located in LDAP. It's with dovecot-1.0-beta5. On the postfix side, I followed the SASL_README and have the following in main.cf: smtpd_sasl_type = dovecot smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes On the dovecot side I have the following related to auth:

imap, imaps, ports; config for secure-only service
Hello, having difficulty setting up a 'secure-only' service on a non-standard port. Objective is to open a secure Dovecot service on an internet-visible port, while also using an insecure service for hosts on an internal network (so that one particular client which is not SSL/TLS-capable can continue to use the service). Checking wiki1 and wiki2, I think that port 143 can be used for a

dovecot-1.0_rc7 crashes (Login process died too early) with repeated deletes from thunderbird
I can consistently reproduce a crash in dovecot: Select 20 or more messages and copy them to a test folder. Go into that test folder and SHIFT-DEL the messages rapidly (holding down SHIFT-DEL works best) Just rapidly DELing them (even holding down DEL) doesn't do it (unless it's the Trash folder) I'm using the following namespace (in case that's relevant) namespace private {

SSL-read error in logfile
Now most things seem to work (rc12 on Mandriva 2007.0), I've been looking more thoroughly at the syslog file. I see a 'syscall failed' at the end of a normal timed poll from the client. I wonder what it means. Sorry for the layout, it is messed up by the cut and paste. I have created the selfsigned cert and key in the /etc/ssl/dovecot/[certs,private] directories. Egbert Jan Nov 8

Dovecot pop3s problem : can't see email
Hi. I am trying to setup dovecot running a pop3 service for external clients (and intend in future to setup an imap interface on localhost only for squirrelmail.) Exim is delivering ok to local mailboxes, but I can't seem to get dovecot to serve them. Configuration details: ---------------------- All users run as the tst user, and authentication is done through postgresql. ...excerpt...

DISREGARD!! Broadvoice outgoing problems
... I just tried again after removing my hosts file entry (again) and outbound is now working! I had taken it out before, but I think I was getting a different error at the time. Sometimes it seems like asking for help is itself a cure! Thanks anyway! JDC

postfix/dovecot/mysql quotas not working, default dovecot.conf does.
I'm having problems getting dovecot to set imap quotas that are defined as individual quotas for virtual users using mysql. I'm using postfix/dovecot 1.1.3, just built from source about a week ago. I've been testing using telnet and getquotaroot. when I define the quota in dovecot.conf quota = dirsize quota_rule = *:storage=102400 I get the following response from Dovecot:

Reinstalling boot blocks on a ZFS-only system
So, I've long known and it makes sense that when you're booted from a ZFS volume, you can't mess with the boot-loader. And, I know a few months ago I had a set of commands I would use when booted from a CD that would initialize the network and copy the "release/boot" from somewhere else so that I could install bootblocks and boot-loaders from more recent code. Sadly, I
