wrong permissions on windows
Hello, I recently moved a samba fileserver and PDC to a new server. Since then, all Windows Users have very limited permissions, not allowing changing even the time settings. Before moving the server, each windows user had the same rights as a "Standard User" or "Main User" (not sure about the english term, using a German windows. In German its called

best way to deal with Windows 7 (.V2) profiles?
Hello, I have some users using sometimes Windows XP and sometimes Windows 7. In my smb.comf I only have one profile section, now Samba is creating both "profile" and "profile.V2" in the /home/<user> directory. Resulting in using twice the disk space. 1) Is there any way to link them ? 2) Do I need a profile.V2 section in my smb.conf? Thanks Stonki [homes]

Thunderbird and Trash folder
Hello, I have my problems with the Trash folder in thunderbird. Most of the times (it did work, but only for a short period) Thunderbird is not considering the "Trash" folder (or in my case the "Papierkorb") as the trash folder. The symbol disappears and I am not able to delete folders. Deleted emails are disappearing at all. The usual Google solutions like maildir vs.

Author wanted for Dovecot article in Linux Magazine (Germany)
Hi list, I am an editor at the German Linux Magazine and I am searching for an author or input on Dovecot, its advantages and especially the recent features. I had organized some authors, but unfortunately they don't have time right now. :-) Nevertheless I heard many positive comments on Dovecot. I can write or help writing the article, but I would love to have some input from an

Double-clicking in tk list dialogs
Am I the only one who finds himself futilely double-clicking a CRAN mirror in the dialog for choosing a CRAN mirror? Yes, double-clicking works in Windows, but not in the Tk-based dialog on Linux. I'm going to wear out my mouse button. Adding the following line to the tk_select.list function in the tcltk package adds double-click functionality to list dialogs: tkbind(box,

running median and smoothing splines for robust surface f itting
loess() should be able to do robust 2D smoothing. There's no natural ordering in 2D, so defining running medians can be tricky. I seem to recall Prof. Koenker talked about some robust 2D smoothing method at useR! 2004, but can't remember if it's available in some packages. LVM recovery after pvcreate
Hi all, I had centos 5.9 installed with one of its volumes (non-root) on LVM: ... /dev/vgapps/lvapps /opt/apps ext3 defaults 1 2 ... Then installed centos 6.4 on this servers but without exporting this volume (I wanted to reuse it). After that instead importing it I did: # pvcreate /dev/sddlmac # vgcreate vgapps /dev/sddlmac And then realised that I should have

Samba 1.9.17 fails to truncate share mode file (fwd)
Thank you for the information that you have passed on to me. My own research has found that ftruncate is quite happy to set a file to the same size that it is already, so something else must be causing the problem. The comment before the ftruncate in set_share_mode says the file is being truncated just for safety, so normally it is probably not necessary to truncate the file. Regards, Tim >

[LLVMdev] LLVM on ARM testing.
Hello, I asked here for kind of reference GCC version which LLVM development team is using for *native* testing on ARM hardware. (no cross compilation!) last week or so. I've been curious myself how the situation looks and so I tested LLVM 2.9 as a reference point and LLVM HEAD as of June 29 on ARMv7 (two boards with two different Ubuntu versions) compiled by GCC 4.3.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.5,
