eudora issue
There seems to be a protocol mismatch between eudora and dovecot when
using pop. The login interchange with, for example, mozilla, is as

DC: UIDL

fetchmail can't talk to dovecot
Hello,
I have dovecot q1.0-0_22.rc7 up and running on a server: I can read
email from squirrelmail just fine. When I try to download email with
fetchmail, however, I get the result below. Why is that happening? In
dovecot.conf I have:
protocols = imap imaps pop3,
so why should pop3 or imap fail? Where should I look?

pop3 CAPA STLS and stupid clients
Hello,
is it possible to disable the announcment of STLS in the CAPA-command
for the pop3-daemon? I want to support pop3s, but only at port 995, not
through the STLS on port 110. The reason for this is that some clients
have problems with this and strange errors appear (e.g. older imap-libs)
although they don't seem to have a problem with pop3s through port 995.

F5 SLB iRule - POP3 TLS Offload & Add Realm
Hey Guys,
I figured someone might have use of this at some point. I've created an
iRule for our F5 Load Balancer which performs the following tasks:
- Appends STLS to the POP3 Capability list (it does this blindly, so
expects the backend POP3 server to not return this)
- Watches for the STLS command and initiates SSL negotiation with the
client (leaves the connection to the

Auth problems against Eudora
Hi,
I'm trying to set up dovecot to do pop3 from Eudora, but it keeps breaking
on authentication attempts using plain auth. When I snoop the connection
with tcpflow, here's what I see:

SASL und APOP
Hi, all!
I configured Dovecot to use many protocols. To do this, I wrote:
mechanisms = plain digest-md5 cram-md5 apop ntlm
Very strange, if I ask the capability, I get:
CAPA
TOP
UIDL
RESP-CODES
PIPELINING
STLS
USER
SASL PLAIN DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 NTLM
.
I can't understand why APOP is not written (but I can use it!) and why I can
see SASL, that I didn't configure...
How can I change

Removing IMAP ID command
Hello all. Happy 2018!
How can I disable the dovecot IMAP ID command, or hide the product name, so
one does not eyeball what server software I am running (which happens to be
v2.2.33.2)? Please see below for an example:
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID ENABLE IDLE
AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=LOGIN] Ready.

TLS Issues - Plain Text login?
I'm trying to setup IMAP, so that it works via secure connections. I
have it working fine over SSL, now I wish to get TLS to work.
I have set imap and imaps to both listen on *, and have
disable_plaintext_auth = yes, which according to the docs,
Disable LOGIN command and all other plaintext authentications
unless SSL/TLS is used (LOGINDISABLED capability).
So the problem is now, that TLS

[POP3] RFC2449 conformance?
RFC2449 Section 5 ("Capabilities available in the AUTHORIZATION state MUST
be announced in both states.") requires that POP3 extensions offered in
Authentication state MUST be offered in Transaction state as well, this
affects the "SASL" extension.
This is a CVS version that is a couple of days old (the old 0.99.10
wouldn't run on Linux 2.6 because it has tighter

Logging
In trying to determine why someone was unable to use port 110 w/STLS (POP)
I had great difficulty finding the session in which the user switched to
this port from using port 995. This is because Dovecot does not log any
port number information. Furthermore, it isn't obvious to me if it logs
whether a session was negotiated SSL (via STARTTLS w/IMAP or STLS w/POP)
or started out SSL (ports 993

Thanks Thomas and Marc that is what I was looking for.

SSH Source Code Documentation

I'm studying I. T. Science and I'm developing my final work to
get my degree. I need to know about SSH (specially, SSH 2.0 protocol)
so I've been studing deeply openssh-3.5 source code, because it could
help me a lot to develop my work.
I'm going to crypt communications between a close machine

QUOTA not appearing in CAPA
Hi,
ok, I've compiled it a few times, and made sure all of my settings are
correct, but the QUOTA is not appearing in the opening CAPA that comes
with the greeting.
I have it configured in the dovecot.conf like so:
protocol imap {
mail_plugins = quota imap_quota
}
and I can see when turning debugging on that the following is spit out
