Merb test harness
Ezra, * test harness in new generated merb apps with helpers for testing merb without starting a server. * pin down plugin arch Seems to me that these two tasks go together unless you want to have rspec built in Merb. Regarding the test harness, my understanding is that: - a developer should be able to easily write specs against a merb application. - a developer should not need to start a merb

Does Rails provide solid support for UTF-8?
I need to use UTF-8 in my app and was wondering if Rails would support it properly. Some sites seem to be saying that it has weak internationalization support. Is this true? If so, where is the problem? What should I look out for? Are there tweaks, plugins or gems that fix the problem? TIA. David -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Camping on Media Temple?
I''m getting into camping in a big way--I love that you can put together full-fledged apps with so little code and overhead. Does anyone know of any documentation about getting Camping apps running on Media Temple''s GridServer? Of course I''ve found the Camping server page[1], but I can''t work out how to associate running camping apps with a (sub)domain

Unicode support in FXRuby 1.6
All, As some of you know, Jeroen has added support for Unicode strings in the unstable development version of FOX (version 1.5). I''m trying to plan ahead to decide how best to support this for FXRuby 1.6, but I don''t really know anything about Ruby''s support for Unicode or i18n in general. If you''re familiar with this topic (how/if Ruby deals with Unicode

Helper content_tag and Blocks
The content_tag helper allows you to do things like: content_tag(:p, "Hello world!") # => <p>Hello world!</p> It can take in blocks, for functionality like this: <% content_tag :div, :class => "strong" do -%> Hello world! <% end -%> # => <div class="strong"><p>Hello world!</p></div> Unfortunately blocks

RedCloth Hard Breaks
Has anybody gotten :hard_breaks to work with RedCloth? I''m doing: self.body_html = RedCloth.new(self.body).to_html(:textile) which works, except that it doesn''t transform hard breaks to <br /> tags, which is really important for me. However, if I do: self.body_html = RedCloth.new(self.body, [ :hard_breaks ]).to_html(:textile) then it converts ALL breaks into <br

Dynamic JS updating / data-preloading using ajax
Hi all, I''m building an application which uses mostly ajax to update the sections of the page. Now I''ve come to some thoughts on how to make the ajax-handling more efficient / less buggy. Currently, when the page loads up, I start some "new Ajax.Updater"-stuff to fill some sections with content from the db. I also registered watchers which also start nearly the same

failing rake task
I''m running rspec and rspec on rails in svn external so I am running the latest version of the trunk. Recently the rake spec task started braking the continuous integration server because the rake aborted. I checked my local and it ran with the same behavior.. and all of the devs on my team are now experiencing the same problem. All the spec''s are passing, but the rake task is

Increased memory requirements on 1.2
I just recently upgraded a rails app of mine to run on edge (and the 1-2-pre-release branch) and I noticed my fcgis required roughly 6-8MBs more memory after just a couple requests. For example, each fcgi on edge would start around 40MB and rise to ~46MBs after a couple requests. I downgraded my app back to 1.1.6 and each fcgi would start at around 33MBs and rise to ~38MB. As a result of the

CampingConf?
Campers -- In a few weeks there will be a bunch of people in Portland, OR, for a conference. A long time ago some campers mentioned that might be a good time for us to get together and hold a mini CampingConf for a few hours. Is anyone interested? Does anyone want to organize it? I''m thinking Wednesday night, May 16. We could possibly get a spot at FreeGeek (not likely since they are

Merb Init Script
I''m trying to emulate the mongrel_cluster_ctl but it takes a -c conf_file option... meaning I can run it from anywhere as long as I tell it where the conf file is. Merb doesn''t have that capability does it? (it has an additional/supplemental config like mup.conf etc) Do I have to be under the merb_app root /path/to/merb/app/ to be able to run merb? Let me know. Thanks,

what did I do?
I''m following merb trunk. This morning I updated my gems, sync''d merb source and installed the merb gem from source. I don''t know if I did something wrong, or if a new gem messed things up, or if there was a merb change which broke something. Now I get this error: Request: REQUEST_URI: / (2007-11-05 20:27:04) Params: {"action"=>"index",

Rails session parasite...
All, I see this item on the merb-0.0.8 release notes Added rails session parasite mode. I am assuming merbs can piggy back off the rails current session. How does one achieve that ? Non-Erubis Templates
Trunk Issue: Because of the use of ''autoload'', template handlers other than Erubis are not loaded automatically (Haml, XMLBuilder). Either this should be fixed, or the documentation should be updated to instruct people how to use non-Erb template engines. Apparently the solution is to do something like this in merb_init.rb: ::Merb::AbstractController.register_engine

Mongrel breaking Merb?
Has anyone had troubles from Mongrel > 1.0.1? Just curious, because the last time I tried to run Merb it gave me some Mongrel error about the wrong number of arguments, or something like that. I can post the exact message tonight when I get home. -- Cheers, Kevin Williams http://kevwil.com/ http://www.almostserio.us/ http://kevwil.jaiku.com/
